Advantages: Fresh Fashion, Unpredictable
Disadvantages: Expensive
A couple of years ago, the Gap was practically an American sitcom myth of fashion store, which sold the latest trends and fashion essentials. Two years later it was to cross over into the mainstream market and become one of the most popular chain fashion stores of its kind. Appealing to kids, teenagers and even adults, the Gap has become a necessity for anyone who feels the need to be up to date when it comes to fashion. So why is the Gap so successful and attractive; basically when the Gap emerged in the UK it immediately launched a huge advertising campaign in which it got the big stars in the music industry such as Missy Elliot to rhyme over its hypnotising slogan of Fall Into The Gap. Gap certainly is evidence that advertising really does work, because within months, people were flocking into chain stores everywhere. I personally shop at Gap because it is a breath of fresh air. Not only are the advertising and the image of Gap different but also the fact that shops such as Next and Marks And Spencer have started to become drained of ideas. Rather than appealing to a range of wear such as both dressy attire and casual, these stores have become very much dressy and inconvenient for the average man who doesn't want to look exactly the same as everyone else but wants to stand out of the crowd. However the problem with this is that the attraction inevitably will start to die down, as more and more people become Gap groupies. The Gap has clothes for a range of people. The main influence is from America but their clothes are suitable for kids, teenagers and even adults looking for casual however I wouldn't go there if you are looking for suits. The fashion in the Gap is very laid back. By this I mean that when you wear the clothes, you look good but it is clear that you don't reek of effort and I think this is what is so popular about the Gap. The main influence is from America, expect
to find denim suits and died jeans, the same sort of clothes that are associated with Levi's and Diesel. The Gap is expensive compared to Next but is on par with Marks And Spencer if not cheaper. This is the one complaint about Gap, the main reason for this high-rise price is that when prices from America are converted from dollar to pound, the exchange rate is ever changing and so the dollar is just changed to a pound sign. There the more expensive clothes in America will cost phenomenal prices in the UK. Gap is aimed indefinitely at middle class people who are looking for casual clothes with they can wear for pretty much any occasion without feeling underdressed or overdressed at the same time. So just fall in line, it's heading for the Gap.
