Advantages: Great choice, Great Prices, Great Quality
Disadvantages: None
George Davies - what a man! The chap (and his team) responsible for Next designs, was responsible for the near-bankruptcy of nearly all mothers-to-be as they visited ASDA stores in their seriously hormonal (and nothing will stop me spending all my money on clothes for my little miracle, even if we can't eat for the rest of the year) state with their childrens range of clothes. Mr Davies as you may know has since left ASDA after ten years (along with his trusty team!) to tackle the current problems at Marks & Spencer. My husband used to say to me that I would spend money with George at ASDA like we had just won the lottery! But come on now, you know what its like when youre pregnant. £5 is just a penny to you! Hormones have completely overtaken your whole being and you just dont care. BUT, the great thing about the childrens clothing range at ASDA is that it is so unbelievably cheap - and such good quality!! And they are very clever - they dont just fill up the rails with summerwear for four months, I go into my local town centre once a week with my daughter and there is always something new to tempt my tastebuds! So obviously I keep spending, and spending, and of course you have to have the matching hat..and socks..and shoes... So we don't eat for the rest of the month - we need to lose a bit of weight anyway!! QUALITY: The quality of the clothing is great - my daughters clothes are being constantly washed and washed and Ive only ever had one problem with colour fading, and that was with a pair of jeans that she ended up wearing nearly every day because she was crawling and they were padded for her knees - bless!! PRICES: The prices are great also, frilled t-shirts (not just plain round necks) can be picked up from as little as £2, and in every colour of the rainbow. Leggings start from around £5 and a complete outfit of top and dungarees, top and matching trousers or top and dress comes in at around £10.
STYLE: The range of clothes is good too, there is lots of choice - and I must say a few of the lines I think are loosely based on the Next style. There is good choice, with either trendy or more traditional clothes. FIT: My daughter, bless her cotton booties, is on the slightly chubbier side (I never did listen to that midwife who told me I couldn't feed her sweet and sour chicken and chips at 2mths of age) and ASDA's clothing range always seems to be a good fit, having lots of room for little nippers to be able to run/crawl around and not have to move around as if they were a cardboard cut-out - WHICH, I might add, is what happens when we spend double the amount on clothes at another particular branded retailer, the legs are always too tight and not enough room around the middle. It's that whole "skinny is good" ethos coming out again, honestly its unbelievable - if your babys not skinny they cant wear our clothes...arrgh dont get me started!! In fact Im going to go and vent my anger on an opinion about that now! COMPLAINTS: Nothing really, other than they should have discounts for frequent flyers, so to speak! They dont have that many shoes, although they are not a show shop in all fairness, but they do try to have coordinated shoes for each outfit. So if you do visit George at ASDA then unless you have won the lottery, take a certain amount of cash and keep your cards and cheque books at home because youll want to buy one of everything, and then again in a larger size for when theyre older of course... I would just like to add that they do have a great range of adult clothes too, but I cant comment on them because when Ive finished buying clothes for Rachel theres not a lot left for anyone else!!! Awww!!!

- 25/04/02 I do like the t-shirts and trousers by George but since the takeover of Asda by Walmart I've been struggling with my liberal conscience about shopping there. |
