“ Brand: Asda / Type: Boys T-Shirts „
My sons school is a bit of a pain in that the ex headteachers favourite colour was purple and so she changed the colour of the school T shirt from white to purple and these aren't available in the supermarkets where many school items are cheap and so you have to go to a specific school store to buy these T shirts. Luckily though she left the PE kit alone and so my son needs a white T shirt and red shorts. Last year I bought him the George school crew neck T shirt as his PE kit T shirt and this is my review of it.
The T shirts are available from Asda stores with George facilities in there but you can also buy them online as well should you be placing an order on there. The T shirts come in packs of two and cost from two pounds for the smaller sizes and up to three pounds fifty for the larger ones. They start at size 3-4 as far as I am aware and finish at age 15-16 so there is a massive scope there.
The T shirts are 100% cotton and so I find that they are nice and soft. They aren't the thickest T shirts and they don't feel wonderful quality as they are quite thin and so I did wonder how long they would last me. At £2 a pack though I wasn't really worried if it only lasted a term because they aren't expensive to replace! What I was actually surprised with was how well they did last! I didn't need to replace my sons T shirts for the whole school year! They do PE once a week for a two hour session and they only send the PE kits home for washing every time the children break up for a holiday and so whilst the shirts weren't washed every week they still lasted really well. I found that the T shirts washed quite well and although towards the end of the year they had developed the odd bobbles I thought that they washed as well as the school branded T shirt had bought my son for his Reception year PE classes at school.
I would absolutely recommend buying these T shirts for your childs PE lessons because they are good quality for the price, they wash well and they feel soft for my son to wear as well. At £2 you aren't going to be gutted if you need to replace them frequently but I wouldn't expect you to have to do this. I was pleased with my purchase and will repurchase them as well.
Thank you for reading my review!
Over the past few weeks Ive been looking online for plain white t shirts for my son to wear. Prices have varied, but I wasn't looking for anything expensive, reasonable price for a reasonable quality. Online I tended to find plain t shirts but in packs of 2, 3 with other colours or maybe some that were patterned and that wasn't what I wanted. So I thought I would give good old cheap Asda a go in their George section, and I was still having trouble finding something suitable. Rather than looking in the normal clothes area for boys, I had a brainwave and looked in the area focused on school uniforms. This is where I found this t shirt, in a pack of 2, for £2.50.
Why did I buy it?
I needed plain t shirts, white, because I had a specific iron on design that I wanted to put onto it for my son to wear. Also, what we have done in the past is draw on plain t shirts with special fabric pens so my son can create his own works of art. So having 2 meant I could complete my task, and have one left over for his art expertise. When I saw the price, £2.50, I couldn't contain myself and thought it was a bargain.
How do they look?
The t shirts are white in colour. Short sleeved and with a crew neck shape. Plenty of stretch in the fabric, so not rigid, especially around the neck area, arms and bottom of the t shirt. Around the neck area, they have put some detail to it because not only do you have the neckline stitched, but an extra band of material just underneath giving extra support and added flexibility.
Overall, the stitching appears to be of a good quality. The material is a decent thickness, and for me when looking and touching it, doesn't appear to be as cheap or as thin as you would expect buying a t shirt for £1.25 each.
What is it made out of/How to wash?
100% cotton. Wash at 40 degrees with similar coloured clothing. Iron on medium heat.
How did this t shirt perform?
One of the t shirts has already been washed, worn and had iron on transfer placed on it. After washing, colour is just as bright and white as before. T shirt held its shape, no fraying of stitching and was in perfect condition. I hung it out to dry, and within hours it was dry. Very easy to iron also as there were very few creases.
I placed the transfer on the t shirt ( as instructed by the manufactory of the transfer ) and it worked a treat. The t shirt handled a very high heat setting without burning, becoming misshaped or the colour changing.
My son has worn this and hes appeared to be very comfortable in it, especially in this weather. In regards to sizes, personally when shopping for my son I tend to buy at least 1 size if not 2 sizes up because if I stay true to his age ( in regards to tops ) they appear too small and tight. A size up, appears ok but 2 sizes up e.g 6-7, theres room for growth but not so baggy hes wearing an older kids cast offs!
Would I buy again? Most definitely. The t shirt is a great quality. Despite the low price, it washes and wears well, its completely neutral so perfect for school age children as part of their uniform, or just one of those essential items for a childs wardrobe, as it goes with everything.
Well done Asdas George section!
I think all parents are aware of just how expensive School Uniforms cost (particularly when your children go to Secondary School). When they are at that age, you simply, for the most part, cannot get the uniform from places like George at Asda as most Secondary Schools have strict policies etc. etc. However, if your children are of Infant or Junior School age George (Schoolwear) is fantastic. For quite a few years I would get my kids School clothes at George; they are extremely good value for money. Unfortunately my son is now at Secondary School so basically I had to get him everything (except for School shirts) at the School shop! However, I spotted these great plain white Crew neck T shirts in Asda which I thought would be good for my son. He cannot wear these in P.E (although I think they are P.E T-shirts; but he can wear these under his School shirt. In fact he likes to wear a tshirt under the Shirt. These are a really good buy for this sort of purpose, or in other cases where it is allowed for P.E at School.
They are very simple plain White short sleeved T shirts, available at George from ages 3 up to 15-16, which is great. They are 100% cotton and machine washable and can even be Tumble dried!
My son will wear these not only for under his School shirts but also under other Shirts and Tops.
You get 2 T-shirts in this pack costing only £3.00 (ages 12-13). This is very good value for money.
Asda recommend after Tumble drying that the T -shirts are hung up straight away. I didn't actually realise they could be Tumble dried until I looked at the packaging, so this is certainly a bonus, as many T shirts get ruined by Tumble Drying.
These Tshirts are a super buy and great value for money; worthy of the full 5 Dooyoo stars in my opinion.
