I have a deep love of stockings, and not just any stockings I love only luxurious nylon fully fashioned stockings.
Gio is one of the few manufactures of proper fully fashions nylon stockings left in production. They are still using the vintage machines and they are hand made, the famous seams must be done my hand. It is an honour to still be able to find and wear something that old Hollywood glamorous ladies used to indulge in.
They are available in 6 sizes available and 5 basic colours: black, barley black, chocolate, bronze and platinum. I think with this range you can easily find something to go with your outfit.
They are not shinny but not matte either, I think they are just right to give legs a perfect finish.
Price wise they are an luxury item, at £16.95 a pair is defiantly not something I can wear every day but is something to wear on special occasions.
Compared with other brands of nylons I find Gio to be very very smooth and silky, in fact a bit too much to the point that I can easily snag them. I always wear gloves when I put them on. I have a pair of gloves from Gio but I much prefer thin disposable latex gloves as it seems to slide better when I put them on.
Due to their delicate nature I only seem to have one single pair of heels in the house to wear them with as special care must be taken because cheap or poorly made shoes can also snag them.
Most of the snags I got on them do not create a ladder but some can and can look really obvious, so if I wear Gio's I always must have a spear pair with me in the purse and gloves too. I think they are more likely to create a ladder when are snagged if the suspender belt holds them to high up and creates too much tension.
Wearing them needs a proper suspender belt and not one of those flimsy 4 straps suspenders belts that I find in shops as La Senza, even Agent Provocateur sells ones that are completely unsuitable. What you need is a sturdy 6 straps metal clasps suspender belt, the stockings have really good welts of which the clasp can be attached to. 6 straps are just the right number to hold them in place all day, at most I found that one clasp can come off accidentally which makes no difference in haw the stockings stay on the legs.
I find Cuban heel with it's squared top that reaches a bit longer then the pointy heel for some reason, I think it might be due to the fact that it stands out a bit more perhaps.
Unlike other nylon stockings this ones have a bit of stretch to them, they are a bit more flexible which makes them to fit perfectly around the ankles and rarely show wrinkles. I think is just a matter in adjusting them correctly to a good suspender belt and then they stay put all days without the need of adjustment.
The foot is reinforced which makes them last longer, it is necessary to have this when it comes to nylon stockings due to their delicate nature unlike modern stockings which have none of these feature. Also the reinforced heels, seams and welts have and spectacular visual effect when worn which is a great part of their charm. Some ladies even wear them with high heels satrapy minimalist sandals so the foot part can show in all it's beauty, they are after all unique and gorgeous!
Getting the seams straight is really easy, stockings must be put on straight and then all I got to do it is look at where the suspender clasps naturally falls onto the welt before I attach them, that way the seams won't move trough the day.
I find them really comfortable and they are unnoticeable when worn.
As for durability, they are ok but I never got the chance to re-ware a pair more then twice as I kept snagging them so I switch to another brand, but I still like having a new pair of Gio's in my boudoir that I might wear again one day.
Availability: I have heard rumours that they might be available in selected shops but I have never ever came across them, neither have I ever came across decent suspender belts. Best place to buy them is the internet from Gio's official website, they also sell amazing 6 & 8 straps suspender belts with metal clasps.
As for fashion, what to wear them with is matter of preferences. A short skirt would not be suitable as the welts would show, unless that is the look you're going for. A knee high or slightly bellow the knee dress/ skirt would fit right on with the look enhancing and giving charm to any outfit. As for shoes of course red soles Louboutin's would be sensational but I guess any fine high heels between 3 to 5 inches would do. Is all about the refinement and femininity!
