“ Brand: Barbour / Type: Womens Jacket „
Little Miss was after aBarbour jacket, it being the "must have " accessory in her eyes. Given that she goes horse riding and does like the outdoors, I decided it would be a good investment as long as she didn't lose it!
This jacket is the waxed version although it does come in the quilted version, and when we first bought it, to me it felt a bit stiff and not at all like a cosy winter coat, although as time has gone on and she has worn the jacket it seems to have softened and almost moulded to her so apparently it is a really comfortable fit and feels lovely and warm.
We have the size large which is about an age 10-11, and the jacket is available for ages 2-15 and then goes into adult sizes.
It is a biker style jacket with a lift up and button neckline which can also be worn unbuttoned and with the collar down if its not too cold. There are two top pockets which have large gold popper fastening to close them and one of them features the Barbour logo. There are also two roomy pockets near the bottom of the jacket which are the same style as the top pockets. The belt goes through belt loops and is adjustable and when fastened with the buckle makes it a nice stylish fit. The material of this outer layer is medium weight 6oz sylkoil which is designed to change character slightly with use hence the jacket becoming more comfortable with use.
The inner lining is 100% cotton Barbour Tartan lining in the usual Barbour tartan and once the outer layer softens up a bit feels soft and keeps Little Miss very warn and snug. The pockets are also lined in this softer material so when she puts her hands in her pockets they are kept warm and dry.
To clean, the jacket should be sponge cleaned and not put in the washing machine or dry cleaned, and there is a warning that the jacket should be kept away from fire and flames, although this to me makes sense for all clothes.
The jacket also comes with a 12 month guarantee which is included on the tags- just complete the form and send it off with the receipt so clearly the manufacturers expect it to last a long time.
We bought the jacket online and at a cost of £159.95, its not cheap!
The jacket is expensive but is excellent quality and real outdoor wear with a very stylish twist. It keeps Little Miss warm and dry when involved in outdoor activities and yet is trendy and stylish enough to wear daily and to smarter events.
The main gripe I have is the price which is very steep given that she will grow out of it in a year or so but I think by that time she will have had lots of use out of it, as it's the only coat she really needs.
The other problem is the fact that whilst its water proof it doesn't have a hood, so is not great in a downpour.
However, saying that, I would recommend this jacket for its quality and versatility but am deducting a star because of the price.
