Advantages: hip, trendy, nice brand
Disadvantages: expensive
Okay, this is a brand that loves to feature blond, well-endowed babes in provocative poses. I guess, all brands in this nature love to do this to draw more attention to their products. They are everywhere in the malls. The billboards are done tastefully, of course. Companies like these spend millions of dollars in advertising alone.
Guess is a very coveted brand in the Philippines. There are existing competitions in the market but this is the most popular since they have a lot of outlets. Every time I feel the urge to splurge, which is not very often, I would always check out their boutiques. This is not a cheap brand but they hold sales all year round. I think it is because of the price that there are always old stocks left whenever newer stocks arrive.
I love their pants because they fit really well. They're skinny jeans are super comfortable and sexy. I love wearing skinny jeans. They make my legs look a mile longer. Compared to Levi's, I find Guess to have a better fit and they always reinvent their style catering more to the taste of hip and young consumers. My recent purchase was a colour black skinny jeans. They're just plain with the patented triangle and the symbol ? in it at back right-hand pocket. Other styles have studs, patches, zippers here and there, and what-not. The prices vary with each intricate design. Other popular brands like Levi's and Mossimo are too boring for me. Although, if someone would give me something from either of these two brands, I'd gladly accept it. Just wishing.
There's a wide range of other items that Guess produces. They have watches, which I don't have. They're not really to my taste and I don't think they will endure the test of time. They also have wallets and handbags. These, I should say, are really gorgeous. I love how playful they get with each design. I am eyeing this piece of eye-candy and I am going to get one for Christmas. We all go shopping this Christmas, right? Those little G's are so eye-catching. They also have shoes which, I should say, are hard to find. Also, dresses and tops which are a little bit overpriced although trendy. I have this long-sleeved sheer blouse that has brown, gold, and gray stripes that I still love wearing to this day. Their belts are really cute, too. Most of the buckles are designed in letter G which makes them identifiable as Guess. I love how belts enhance a simple outfit. We've all seen how they have made a huge comeback recently.
They also have Baby Guess, which is well, a line for babies and kids. I have bought two cute tees for my daughter on an impulse because they were on sale. I don't really see the practicality of buying expensive clothes for babies and kids because they are outgrown so quickly. Unless, you are an heiress and you'd rather die than having your baby seen dressed in less than the known brands. Which is a little over the top.
I just would like to mention that while we bask in the goodness and pride of being able to acquire such brand, Guess's history is not as pristine as it presents to be. Many major companies like Guess take advantage of the economic crisis in underdeveloped countries by way of sweatshops. We all heard about how it works. While there are always two sides to each story and disadvantages/advantages of sweatshops are still being argued, I feel that as a company who earns huge profits off these labours, it is their duty to pay due wages and benefits. Guess, I want a 50% off in my next purchase!
That being said, I think Guess is a worthy purchase but should not be developed as a habit lest you want to drill a hole in your pocket. If you must buy branded products opt for something that can withstand trends and time. Something you can mix and match and is in for the long haul.
