“ Brand: H&M / Type: Skirt „
H&M is my fail safe shop. I know I can always find something in there to buy (in fact just yesterday I got a dress and three tops!) My local store is medium sized, but I do find it can be a bit of a jumble sale in there and difficult to find things.
I went shopping in the sales after Christmas 2012, and I found the above skirt in the sale for £2. I believe this style of 'jersey skirt' is usually £3.99, so they're pretty cheap even at full price. That being said, the jersey skirt is very no frills. It's basically a tube of jersey-type material!
This skirt is quite short, although I have something of a rounded bottom so skirts often come up short on me at the back! However it's not obscene short and I have worn mine to work (with tights) and I feel that it is appropriate. The skirt has an elasticated waist and so is easy to pull on and off, and I've had the skirt for over a year and it hasn't gone baggy or out of shape. The other jersey skirts I have from this range has been the same. It washes well, I have chucked it into a 30 and 40 degree wash and it comes out fine.
The main problem with the striped skirt is that you have to have a fairly plain top with it, as the skirt has the pattern to it. I usually team with a black tshirt or long sleeved top. The skirt is pretty clingy, so if you hold your weight around your hips it might not be too flattering.
Overall I would highly recommend any of the jersey skirts from H&M, and the stripey one is a nice addition to my collection. As I have a rounded bum and a small waist I really struggle to get trousers/jeans to fit me, so I often opt for skirts. This is a great casual skirt which you can throw on with tights and plimsolls or boots, and it can be dressed up or down as appropriate. The H&M jersey skirt is an absolute staple in my wardrobe, and the stripey version is a nice jazzy version which looks really smart teamed with a long sleeved black top (also from H&M of course!)
I have quite a few of the plain tube skirts from H&M, I have a couple of the black ones, a grey and a navy. I think that they are superb value for money, they are only £2.99 each, and they are brilliant quality for just £2.99.
I recently spotted a striped version of the tube skirt in H&M, and so I picked one of these up, well they are only £2.99! They had the striped tube skirt available in grey and black stripes, and beige and black stripes. I bought the beige and black striped version (but I think I'm gonna go back for the grey and black one as well!)
This is a short jersey skirt with an elasticated waist. It's a short figure hugging skirt, it's essentially just a tube of material, hence the name - tube skirt. It's machine washable at 40 degrees, and I've also put this in the dryer a number of times with no problems whatsoever. It hasn't lost any of it's colour, the stripes haven't faded or blurred into one another, it hasn't bobbled or pilled, and it hasn't shrunk or stretched at all. The material is 95% cotton, and 5% elastane.
The skirt comes in sizes 8 through to 16. The sizing is pretty spot on, and I bought my regular size which fits perfectly. The skirt has quite a bit of stretch in it, so the size 16 would also probably fit a size 18 as well.
The striped skirt has wide block horizontal beige and black stripes running around the skirt. Mine starts and finishes with black stripes, some of the skirts in H&M had a beige stripe at the top (waist), or bottom (hem), and I didn't like that as much so I scoured the rail for one with black stripes at the waist and hem.
This is a fairly tight and clingy and very short skirt when it's on. Because the skirt is quite a clingy and fitted style the main thing that you need to careful of when wearing this skirt is underwear, watch that VPL! I like to wear this skirt with tights and boots, or leggings and flip flops or ballet shoes. I think that the stripes give this skirt quite a different look from the plain versions of the tube skirt. I've had quite a few people compliment me and ask me where I got the skirt from.
This is a really decent quality skirt for just £2.99, it looks and feels like it costs far more than it actually did. For just £2.99 I'm really impressed with this striped skirt, I'd recommend it to anyone, and as I mentioned I'm actually thinking of getting the grey and black striped version as well. At just £2.99 you cannot go wrong with this.
Although I've been better off recently due to having a decently paid job over the summer this year, I've still been trying to save money when I can. Since I'm also trying to lose weight and didn't want to invest much money in clothes I hopefully would be too thin for soon enough, clothes was an area that I was keen to find bargains. I therefore decided to check out H&M when I was looking for some new things, as I know that they have nice things for reasonable prices. I ended up getting quite a few nice things for a low price, one of which was this skirt.
== Beige Striped Skirt ==
This skirt jumped out at me as soon as I saw it, as it is simple yet stylish without being boring. The fact that it's half black and half a beige colour means that it doesn't clash with many things, but looks best with similar coloured garments. It's also nice enough that I've worn it to work with tights and a plain black top a few times, as it's appropriate for business casual work wear. I also often wear it with leggings and a baggy, black All Saints top (which is in fact the exact outfit I'm wearing today) as the tight skirt and baggy top go together well. Despite their having entirely different colour schemes, it also complements my pink and yellow handbag (which I reviewed recently), which is a plus as I use this handbag every day.
Negatives about this skirt include the fact that it does mainly go with black or brown and any other bright colours look too much when paired with it. I have a black top with a slight bit of pink in it and this doesn't even go. Another thing is that it does stretch when you sit down and the black looks paler and you can see the fibres more, but this isn't a massive problem and could be solved by buying a bigger size than normal, as then it wouldn't stretch as much.
== Conclusion ==
This is a lovely skirt that I am very glad I bought. I've worn it many times and so have definitely got my money's worth out of it. Speaking of money, this skirt cost a ridiculously low £4, which is spectacular value based on how much I like this skirt and how much wear I've got out of it. I'd definitely recommend this skirt, even if you're only going to wear it a couple of times, as it is a lovely item as well as being very good value for money.
