a flowing beaded dress by H&M

At Christmas I had decided to do a bit of online shopping as I needed some new clothes desperately and H&M had some good offers on, on their website. I was wanting a new dress for a night out and had found the one I liked the most right away as it looked sophisticated and at the same time had a bit of sparkle to it which is what I wanted. There wasn't a lot of choice on the website though as quite a lot was a bit frumpy looking I found and I normally really like H&M but either way I was excited to get my dress and couldn't wait for it to arrive. I had 50% off and an extra £5 off so it was so cheap and I just had to add the postage on.

This dress is a black chiffon dress which is pleated at the top and on each of the short sleeves it has a beaded trim and it zips up to the neckline with a back zip. The dress is fully lined and is lightweight when holding it, the material is nice enough, it wasn't exactly what I expected but it looked fine, this dress comes in sizes 8 through to 20 so I went for my usual size 10 and it was fine. The style is quite floaty so you don't want it to look like a shapeless sack as it flows out from the neckline down and was roughly just above the knee when on. It was an ok length, slightly longer than it looked on the model on the website but still I was happy to try it.

Trying this on was ok, I got into it and zipped it up the back, this was easy enough to do myself and when on it was fine, a bit heavier feeling when on but ok. Now, I came across a problem right away when trying it on, being a beaded trim sleeve it was quite tight on the beading part which was sore trying to get on. I do not have a large upper arm at all so was shocked to find I had to really pull at the sleeves to not feel like they were cutting off my circulation. After wearing this dress for only half an hour I had to take it off as it was really sore on my arm and once I took the dress off, my arm was red from this digging in which was very annoying.

The next thing I found annoying with this dress was that it was very static so when walking about, it kept sticking to my legs and for a floaty dress this is not what you want as it is so uncomfortable. It just kept sticking no matter what I did and the lining wasn't any better, the dress wasn't the most flattering when on either. It made me look bigger than I am because it just had no shape at all, even trying to put a belt around the waist, it still just didn't lie nicely at all and the beading was the best bit even though it hurt. It's ashame as this could have been such a nice dress if not made so cheaply as this is definitely where all the issues arose.

The dress came from Sweden so ended up arriving too late for my night out anyway which was poor service. The dress is 100% polyester and is meant to be handwashed at 30 degrees Celsius but I can't say I got that far as it was not for me and I wanted to return it right away. Although the comments on service are not about the dress I feel I should mention that upon returning this dress I have waited 7 weeks to get my money back which is ridiculous, after calling them five times, writing three times, their accounts team making two mistakes upon trying to refund the money. So, I tried to treat myself ended up using credit up and with a dress I didn't like.

I wouldn't recommend this dress at all, it looks nice on the photos but they have definitely done some editing work and pinned bits in here and there to make it look more fitted. If it had looked like it did on the website it would have gone great with a blazer and heels or even just with heels on a night out but it just let me down. If the sleeves had been that little less tighter it would have helped but the dress was too big for me and the sleeves too tight it was just all out of proportion. I liked the pleating detailing on the neckline and thought this was a nice touch but it wasn't enough to make me want to keep this dress and sadly it wasn't worth the money.

This dress was £29.99 when I bought it but then went down to £15 on sale when I checked a few weeks back and upon checking now it still is but is only left in sizes 8/12/18 and 20.
