I buy a lot of clothes from H&M as I always find them very good value and also well made. I have got quite a few vest tops and tend to buy at least one every summer as they are so cheap. I loved this butterfly design one as soon as I saw it as I love butterflies and it looked very pretty and feminine.
They come in size 8 to 20 and they are quite generous in size, as most of mine are size 14 and I usually have a size 16. It is a white background and has a large pink and blue butterfly printed on the front. It is made of 100 per cent cotton and it feels very soft but it is also quite thick so you don't have to worry about seeing your underwear through them.
The straps are wide enough so my bra straps are well hidden and the neck is scooped but it is not too low at all. It is quite a good length so it doesn't ride up when you are wearing them. I find that this vest tops washes very well and dries quickly and does not need ironing so it is very easy to look after.
I have had this top now for a few years and it is still in very good condition and has not gone out of shape at all. It is very versatile and you can wear it with almost anything and can layer it with a cardigan on top or a t shirt underneath. I would definitely recommend this pretty butterfly vest top as it is good value and is nice and easy to wear.
Before I went on holiday this summer I went on a massive shopping spree in H&M - it's one of my favourite shops - because the clothes just fit me so much better than they would out of somewhere like New Look or Dorothy Perkins. That and the fact the clothes feel much better quality, are cheaper and well they're far more my style than a lot of the high street shops in my area. Admittedly I do order almost all my H&M items online, but that just saves me driving 50odd miles to my nearest store!
~*~ H&M ~*~
I've been a fan of H&M for many years now; they do a wide range of clothing, for men, women and children. In varying price ranges, as they also collaborate with other designers to make some more upmarket clothing, at a higher price. They also do home wares; towels, cushion covers, and items like bedding. So they have become a really versatile shop really, with a lot of items all in one shop - and there is even now an online shop which only became available a few years ago, so it's very easy to shop H&M!
~*~ Butterfly Vest Top ~*~
When I first bought this vest top I got it in a 10-12, which is around what my normal size is on top - and when it arrived it was a good fit - but it did go up to a size 16. Especially for being out in the sunshine in Rome which is what I originally bought it for, it was perfect no sleeves and very low cut, meant it was ideal to put over a bikini for the day in Anzio we had to visit the beach. It has been through the wash a few times since however, and worn a lot as clothing to and from work; the more I've taken it on and off the material has stretched quite a lot, so it has retained its shape the fibres have just stretched a little bit. To a point that now if I wear it I'm very cautious about ensuring the top doesn't fall down, as it is baggy around the chest area and does expose my bra quite regularly if I'm not paying attention!
It's a really soft material vest top though, so it's been really kind on my skin - even when I first bought it, and since then when it's been through the wash a few times it has retained the nice feeling to it despite having been washed with many different washing powders and fabric conditioners. Also despite the amount of times it's been washed I've not noticed any holes in it, which is a plus even though now it's mainly being worn under other clothing, it's still of a reasonable quality. Admittedly I'd like to wear it on its own, but for now I wear it under other items, and with other vest tops underneath so I'm not constantly exposing myself!
The design on the front is really nice, the butterfly looks like it's sort of being paint splatted on - it's a quirky design and is very girly in pinks and various other pastel colours in a dark outline. It's quite versatile really goes with most things, I normally wear mine with jeans to be honest as this time of year that's my normal clothing aside from leggings, so occasionally I'll wear it with a nice skirt and leggings. It goes with most colours so I don't really worry about anything clashing with it not even my bright red hair, while on holiday I wore it with pale pink shorts and also a turquoise pair, so it really will go with everything!
It really is one of my favourite tops purely because I'm a big lover of butterflies and the fact it just looks really cute even though it does expose me, it is quite a thin top as well so don't wear a very obvious bra underneath unless you want that kind of attention - I recently made this mistake with a black and multi-coloured spotty bra underneath and I had a few comments, of 'Laura I can see your bra through that top!!' so quickly decided to put another vest top underneath it! It washes well, it does stretch, but it does develop what I think looks a little bit of a well-worn vintage look, especially with a pair of jeans perhaps with rips in and a battered pair of converse.
~*~ Price and Availability ~*~
I got mine from H&M online, which at the time I bought it, it was in the sale for £3.99, it was originally £7.99 - either way I'd have bought it at either price because I really liked it. I have had a look on the website for it tonight and don't think it is still available on the website but it will probably be available on eBay or on Gumtree if you look hard enough!
I love H&M and I think that the clothing they stock is always on trend and of a good quality. I often find that some of there items are really overpriced, however there are always certain clothing items which are priced really well. One of the main reasons I shop there is to purchase vests. I love vests because I feel that they compliment my shape well, and they are just so simple and easy to wear but versatile enough that you can dress them up or down. I have always felt that H&M offer a great range of vests and one of my newer additions is this beautiful butterfly one.
Obviously this is only available from H&M and it is in most of their stores currently (April 2012) as well as being on their website to purchase. The price is only £7.99 which I think is fantastic for a printed vest top such as this one. If this one isn't to your taste there is a whole range of these in lots of different prints any styles, and I have already purchased another in addition to this one, as £7.99 is an absolute steal!
I saw it on the hanger when I popped in the other day, and I was instantly attracted to it. I am very girly and my style reflects this. I am a sucker for pastel colours, hearts and butterflies so as you can imagine this is very to my taste. I would say that this is aimed at younger women due to the youthful print, but that's not to say that an older lady could pull this off wonderfully! The print on the front is just one large butterfly, but rather than being outlined neatly it is more of a sketchy, messy pattern. There is then pastel greens, oranges, pinks and blues just splatted across in a graffiti, messy style. I quite like this as it makes its own little statement, however I know that it is not to everyone's taste, but for me personally I think it is lovely.
The best thing about vests like this are that they are just so versatile. I frequently wear mine with pale denim jeans and some ballerina flat shoes and a cardigan. This therefore makes a great day time outfit. You could also pair this with darker jeans, leggings or even tuck into a tube skirt. The vest could also be worked of the night time with leggings or a skirt paired with some heels. I love the versatility of this, as I try to avoid purchasing items that I will only wear the once!
The one problem which I have faced with this vest top is that when I got home and tried it on, I was pretty disappointed. Generally I am a size 8-10, and I nervously went for the size 8 hoping it would fit nicely. I couldn't believe it when I got home and it was hanging off me! I assume this vest is made to be quite loose and floaty, however I would have preferred it to be a little more fitted. Because of this, it meant that all my bra was hanging out of the sides and I didn't think it was a nice look at all. It would suit some people very well, however I have to tuck my top into the sides of my bra now just so I can wear this confidently. Watch out for this with some H&M vests!
If you are interested in purchasing this, just check out your nearest H&M or visit their website www.hm.com and the top is located under the vests section. It is available in sizes 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 however not in any plus sizes which is a shame really as it is a beautiful vest. The top is 100% cotton meaning it is very light and cleans well. Just watch out as it creases very easily so you will have to iron this constantly!
Overall, a beautiful top for a wonderful price. However, the shape of it is unflattering and hard to pull off which I found was a big let down. Thanks for reading.
