“ Brand: H&M / Type: Casual „
As I have lost weight recently and am down to my lowest weight in 4 years, I have been going a bit mad buying clothes. I haven't felt comfortable wearing skirts in the past year or so as I had gained weight, but now that I have lost it, I am really enjoying being able to buy and wear skirts again!
I saw this skirt on the H&M website and decided to treat myself as I was eyeing it up for several weeks.
This is available in 2 colours - black and burgundy. I own this in black, and I think the burgundy differs slightly, as it is all imitation leather, whereas the black version is a mix of imitation leather and stretch denim. Therefore my review is based on the BLACK version of this skirt only.
This skirt is made from 23% polyester, 75% cotton and 2% elastane. The waistband and side panels of the skirt are imitation leather. Imitation leather these days looks a lot more realistic than it used to, and it does not look cheap or overtly fake. The rest of the skirt is denim - it's quite a hard denim, not like regular denim used in jeans - I would liken it more to waxed denim.
The waistband has a plain metal button and a zip, and the front pockets on each side have zips also.
This comes in sizes 8 to 16. I am a small size 12 at the moment so obviously I ordered the 12. I found that it fitted quite neatly which may be down to the material which it is made from, as the denim/leather is not stretchy. I think a size 14 would have fitted a little better so you may need to try a size up as well as your normal size to see which fits better. I can get away with the size 12 but it is rather tight around the tops of my thighs.
The label recommends that you machine wash this at 40 degrees. I have found that it has washed well - the colours haven't run and the skirt looks as good as new after washing.
This isn't something I would wear a lot and I wouldn't wear it during the day as it is a mini skirt and it is maybe a bit too much on the short side for me to feel comfortable wearing during the day. I have been wearing it on nights out - it looks good with black opaque tights and I have also worn this with leggings. I usually wear this with a band t-shirt but it's also nice with dressier tops or even jumpers for a more casual look.
I think this skirt is perfect if you aren't quite ready to wear a 100% leather skirt, as the denim softens the look slightly.
This costs £14.99 which I think is a brilliant price. It looks more expensive in my opinion and as this is something I can see myself wearing on nights out for a good few years, I think I have definitely gotten value for money. It is of high enough quality to justify a higher price tag.
WOULD I BUY THIS AGAIN?
Yes, I would buy this again. I think the price was very reasonable and it suits my personal style very well. It's definitely not to everyone's tastes, but if like me, you like leather and feel you have the legs to get away with a short skirt, go for it! I really love this skirt and am very glad I bought it.
