My ultimate summer basic - I love it!

We all know H&M is a great place to head for a basic, especially in the moments when Primark just isn't good enough (as anyone who's tried their tube tops will know..) This tube top is the simplest of basics, but has risen through the ranks of my wardrobe to become one of my favourite items of clothing.

(I should add that I own multiple H&M tube tops, including the stripes & have found them to all be the same in terms of fit & quality, so I'll be talking about them more generally..)

I originally stumbled across this stripey top whilst looking for a costume for a fancy dress party. The theme was "clichés". Living & studying in Paris for two years now, I often find myself the subject of numerous clichés, with constant questions about my now slightly strange accent & turn of phrase, or people demanding if I've come to love smelly cheese (no!) or if I've tried frog's legs (despite 19 years of vegetarianism which people choose to conveniently ignore.) So what better costume that to dress up as a Frenchie?

With only a handful of coins, & no Primark in Paris, I headed to H&M. The display of boob tubes was prominently visible upon entry, so I picked up these stripey one & headed for the tills. The party was a success, as was my outfit!

      **Design**
The top is a simple boob tube/tube top style, ever so slightly ruched under the arms. There is some 'hidden support' which is decent but in my opinion not enough to be worn without a bra unless your boobs are on the small side! The top is pretty tight to your body, & on me (I'm 164cm) it comes down to meet my jeans, just showing a sliver of stomach.

The material is 95% cotton/ 5% elastane so it is very lightweight. On the downside however, it is quite thin. The white parts can be a little see-through, especially in bright sunlight. This top is pretty skintight. I therefore wouldn't recommend to anyone who is feeling a little body-conscious as it really does show every lump & bump!

The elastic doesn't seem to go after washing & my tops have been washed multiple times as well as tumbled with no loss of stretch or bobbling.

In terms of sizing, I am not generally too impressed with H&M. I wear a 6-8 & have the 8/XS in this, which is a tiny bit loose on the stomach but fits well on the boobs. So I think they have got it spot on here.

      **Price**
According to the H&M website, these retail at 3,99. But I am sure that I bought one for a pound less last summer, although I no longer have the receipt or tag to be sure. Either way, they are still a great bargain!

      **My view**
Whilst not really a fan of the stripes, I know own multiple versions of this top in various colours. I love them! The cut is very flattering to my figure & they can be dressed down or up as needed. The colour range is pretty good too, they are currently selling a sort of pale peach colour which looks wonderful on lighter skin & I get so many compliments each time I wear it! I can't recommend it highly enough, provided you are happy to have your figure displayed in minute detail!

A simple yet versatile top from H&M.

With the sunny rays out and about the past few days, I was more than happy to delve into the back of my wardrobe and root out some more summery clothes. One of my favourite items of clothing in the summer are tube tops or otherwise known as boob tubes. They are so simple and comfy to wear and don't leave you with strap marks when you are tanning. I have tried out various types including Topshop, Primark and Dorothy Perkins, but one of my favourite tube tops comes from H&M.

This top is their striped tube top which is white all over with navy blue stripes across it. This top is also available in just a plain black and a plain red but the striped one stood out to me. I purchased mine last year, however it is still available both in store and online on H&M's website if you are interested in purchasing it. It only retails at £2.99 which is probably about right for a basic top, however I thought it was a steal, especially from H&M so as far as price is concerned, I was happy with this.

The top itself is made from 95% cotton and 5% elastane. I personally find that to touch this top it is very soft and smooth, meaning it doesn't irritate the skin when worn. From the feel of it, you can also notice that the quality is much better as opposed to some of my other tube tops from cheaper outlets, so this really does seem like a good quality top. I have had this now for around seven or so months and it still feels the same way.

Sometimes I find it quite difficult to find things which suit my figure, as I have an extremely hour glass figure. I am usually smack bang in between 8-10 when it comes to sizing so sometimes it can be a hassle to find nice things for my figure, particularly as I have a larger bust for my size. I went for a size 10 in this simply because of my bust and it fits me perfectly. I would recommend trying this top on before purchasing just to ensure that it fits properly and doesn't end up falling down! It is available in sizes 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 but unfortunately not in any plus sizes which is a shame. I think this top would suit very petite girls as well as more curvy girls as it is very basic and can be worked well with other items of clothing to suit to your figure and tastes.

One problem that you need to be wary of with this top is that as the stripes are horizontal, it does mean that it can make you look a little bigger. If you are someone who is not happy with their size, I would not recommend purchasing this as it can look a little frumpy if not styled well.

There are numerous ways in which you can wear this top. For example, on a warm summers day you can team it with some denim shorts and sandals. I have also worn this top when I have been on nights out. It looks great when teamed with skinny jeans, heels and some accessories. Another idea is to team it with a plain skirt, tights and throw on a cardigan and necklace for a cute, daytime look. The possibilities are endless with this top, and I think it is so versatile for the price tag which I paid.

Overall, I would highly recommend this top for those who are confident with their figure but to avoid if you are unhappy; particularly with your tummy! The top is gorgeous, and very versatile as it can be teamed up to make many different outfits. A great steal from H&M, thanks for reading.
