“ Brand: New Look / Type: Maternity T-Shirt „
When I was three months pregnant I went on a bit of a maternity clothing shop. Being my second baby, I already had a bump and I was conscious that a lot of my maternity clothes from my first pregnancy were winter clothes and this time I would be carrying over the summer months. I didn't want to spend a fortune as you only need them for a 6 month period but, at the same time, it was all I would be wearing for six months! I bought a few staples in New Look and H&M and one of these was a 'Hands off the Bump' T-Shirt from New Look.
My T-shirt is a thin cotton with blue and cream horizontal stripes (so it does rather look like Mr Bump ironically!). On the front there is big black lettering saying 'Hands off the bump' and two hand prints on the stomach, where your growing bump will be located. It has short sleeves and gathering at the sides as most maternity tops have so that it accommodates your bump at all stages. It can be washed at 40 degrees and ironed on the reverse to preserve the print. It cost me £9.99.
I like this T-shirt very much as it is really light (so has been ideal in this hot weather). It is a nice length to wear with cropped jeans or shorts. The slogan on the front makes it more casual and a bit of fun too. It has washed well and the writing hasn't worn or faded at all. I have worn this for about three months so far and worn it most weeks so it has been washed quite a lot. It is a nice fit and not too tight on the arms and accommodating my growing bump nicely. The only problem that I have had with it is a slight hole has worn in one of the seams, but this was easily fixed and not too much of a problem.
Overall, a nice addition to my maternity wardrobe and ideal in the hot weather.
After reading a recent review on this I will review my own purchase of this t shirt.
I first found one on Ebay and loved the slogan on it so found out they were from New Look stores so off I went in search of one. I was very protective of my bump in my pregnancies and hated people to touch me apart from nearest and dearest. You wouldn't walk up to a stranger at the shops who wasn't pregnant and just touch her tummy so what gives people the right to do it when you are pregnant, it's like you suddenly become public property. That wound me up as much as the "oh you haven't had it yet" whilst you are stood like a beached whale in front of them..
Anyway this was when I was expecting my youngest I got this top and have only recently put it into recycling as no more children planned and there was still plenty of wear left in it and seeing as it was a maternity top couldn't carry on wearing it about lol.
The slogan on the front reads as Hands off the bump and underneath it has two hand prints which are right over the bump area. This slogan is kind of a joke but for me it was a warning to people, but they would still touch and I'd be like "can't you read" they would just laugh.
The top is 100% cotton and fairly thin. It has a scoop neckline short sleeves and at the sides there was a small gathered bit which allowed for it to stretch as the bump grew bigger.
It was machine washable at 30oc recommended. Mine was either being worn or going through the wash so I certainly got my money worth from it.
They currently are selling for £7.99 and available in sizes 8 - 18. You can purchase them online or in certain stores that carry the maternity range.
The one I had was sky blue colour with purple writing on it but currently available are light blue with white, white with red or black with white.
Having spent at least 6 months of constantly wearing mine it lasted very well and still had plenty of wear left in it.
A great purchase from a well know high street store. I always found this comfortable to wear and through the summer months it was just right too not too hot or too cold, however if wearing it during winter months I'd advice a cardigan with it.
WHAT IS IT?
A tee shirt from New Look that is part of their maternity range of clothing.
It is a statement slogan tee shirt that says Hands Off The Bump. There are 2 cartoon hand prints on the front of the tee shirt and they are quite low down so they are resting on your pregnant bump. I think it is a very good slogan and that is why my friend bought it for me when I held my baby shower last year because I get angry when strangers feel like they can touch my body just because I was pregnant. The tee shirt is made from 100% cotton and it has got a scoop neck and short sleeves. I like the shape of the tee shirt because it is long line so it covers my stomach complete and comes down at the back long enough to cover my bottom. The one I have got is white with the writing and the hand prints in multiple colours and I think it is a lot more attractive than the green one in the photograph Dooyoo have got up.
WHAT I THINK
I was 7 months pregnant when my friend gifted me this tee shirt and even though I had only a very small bump the hand prints made it clear that I was having a baby and didn't just have a fat stomach. I like the slogan of this tee shirt very much and one day when a lady went to touch my stomach in the supermarket my husband asked her if she could read and why she thought she could touch me like that. I do not know if it stopped people doing it but when I wore this tee shirt I noticed that I would not be touched by people I did not know.
As a tee shirt it is very comfortable. I gave birth in June last year and so was heavily pregnant through the start of the warm summer, the cotton tee shirt kept me cool as well as being fun and good looking. I was glad that the sleeves were so short at that time of year but they only come an inch down my arm so if you like regular tee shirt length sleeves then they might expose too much flesh for you. The tee shirt has got a good shape and when I have washed it in the washing machine it has stayed the same shape and the top has not gone a funny shape or shrunk. It can be dried in the electric dryer and that is good because it is not always good enough weather in this country to dry my laundry outside.
The tee shirt did not bobble in all the time I wore it and the print on the front did not fade or peel off. I thought the size was right because when you are buying maternity clothes you should buy your regular size because the garment will allow for your bump, I am a size 8 and so my friend bought me a size 8 in this tee shirt and I thought it fit properly even though it got a bit tight in the last 2 weeks when I was pregnant because my stomach grew then very quickly. I wore it a bit after I had my baby but I got back into shape very quickly so did not have to wear my maternity clothing for very long after the birth.
This tee shirt costs £9.99 in New Look and it is located with their maternity clothes range. I think that is good value for the money because it is a good quality item of clothing that sends a message out to people who think it is right to touch the bodies of pregnant ladies.
5 Dooyoo Stars.
While shopping maternity wear I liked a lot of the New look range. I stumbled across it by chance and have been pleased with 90% of my purchases from the range which is fairly good. Of course maternity wear is designed so that you can purchase your normal size, but still have accommodating space for your growing tummy. I found this a must as normal clothing was always baggy on my shoulders but too tight in other areas. There are a number of colour variations available in this T shirt and I chose the black as it matches a lot more of my limited maternity wardrobe.
This is a simple top with a simple shape but it is still flattering. It has a scoop neck to it and short sleeves which I found perfect for the warmer months. On the front of the T shirt it has 'Hands of the bump' with two hand prints sitting over the bump area. It was the slogan that drew me towards this in the shop. It is simple and made me laugh as people do seem to think a pregnant belly is a free for all to touch. It seems to attract more attention to your bump and I did get a number of strangers approaching me for a feel. The writing is in white so it contrasts well with the main black body of the top.
It is smart enough so I do not feel like a slob wearing it and I find it comfy and practical in day to day wear. The extra allowance for your bump is perfect, as it fits nice and tight around the bump, but not so much that it is restrictive. I usually pair it up with maternity trousers or leggings depending on what I am doing for the day. It is 100% cotton and very kind on the skin. I did find it a little bit tight around the arm area but not so it was too uncomfortable to wear. It does allow room for your bump to grow without actually needing to go up another size. The stomach is designed so that I could wear it at four months without it being too baggy or lose on the tummy area, but even at 9 months it still fitted me comfortably without having to worry about my middle being shown off to the world.
It washes really well and I usually wash it on a low heat. I have used this T shirt with two pregnancies and it still looks brand new. It comes up well without any misshaping at all. The fitting is still the same size as when I purchased it and even in the dryer it managed to survive without shrinking. The black has not faded in anyway and the printed front is still in perfect condition. I did worry that the printed slogan would wear a little after time, but it is still intact without any peeling at all.
I would definitely recommend these T shirts as I found them to be both flattering and comfortable. They wash really well and lasted me right the way through two pregnancies. There are different variations available so you are sure to find one to match your style. They are simple day to day casual wear and at £8 a top I think they are reasonably priced. It is something you can only wear during pregnancy because of the fit and slogan , but you still get a lot of use for your money. It is now packed away in my attic but I am sure when I take it to the charity shop it can still provide someone else with some use.
