I do like to go to the gym, and I would love to be one of those glamorous girls that arrive looking stunning and leave after a work out looking like they have barely broken a sweat. I am one of the unfortunate few who gets a bright red face (affectionately called 'Tomato Head' by my other half when I get back) and looks terrible. I think this is part of the reason why I have never cared what I look like when I go, as I will never be leaving in a dignified way (a red sweaty mess) so why make the effort. For this reason I have spent the last four years on the treadmill in a pair of my husbands old gym shorts! Big, unflattering, but oh so comfy. I did buy some girls ones once, but they are so short! When the holes in these got too much, I finally bit the bullet and went to buy myself some smart new gym clothes.
Gym clothes are quite pricey, and seem to be made for slim people. I wanted something that would cover my lumps and bumps, not enhance them! Having purchased some tight Capri pants to go running, I wanted something to wear on my top half that was long enough to cover my bum, but not baggy and flapping around everywhere. Browsing JD Sports the other day, I came across the Pure Simple range.
The Essential Sport Vest jumped out immediately. It is a grey marl 'performance vest' with a racer style back and with the Pure Simple logo on it. I had not heard of this range of clothes before, but it looked just the ticket. It is fairly fitted but with a bit of give, and is long enough to cover the top of my bottom - the bit I really do not want on display. I wear it over the top of another top as it would be quite indecent without and having been running a few times with it on, I have found it doesn't ride up - just stayed nicely put where I want it. The top bit of the top is a little big though, and I do find myself adjusting that.
The material is 65% cotton and 35% polyester and is available in sizes 8 to 16. It will set you back the bargain price of £10. For such a cheap sports top, it is very good quality, and still looks like new after being sweated on several times. It is easy to wash and doesn't need ironing (not that many people would worry about ironing gym clothes!) so looks good on straight out of the drawer. This top is only available in JD Sports.
I would highly recommend this top, and will be buying another one. The only downside is that there is only one colour! I would buy the whole range if there was anymore! It would be quite nice to have bright ones for outdoor running - JD Sports - if you're reading - can this be arranged?!
Thanks for reading.
