Advantages: Very high quality clothing line and very fashionable

Disadvantages: Expensive but then 'you get what you pay for'

Lacoste as a brand is very fashionable. Before I review the clothing range i will give a brief background to the brand itself.

René Lacoste was a retired professional tennis player when he set up La Chemise Lacoste in 1933 with André Gillier, the owner and President of the largest French knitwear manufacturing firm at the time. They began to produce the revolutionary tennis shirt Lacoste had designed and worn when playing tennis. There was also an influence of golf and sailing in the clothing design. The brand increased in popularity and the 70s saw a large increase in the number of sales under the new management of Bernard Lacoste, the son of the former owner. The brand has grown into the popular fashion line it is today and has had many examples of famous sports personalities wearing the line. Examples include Andy Roddick and golfer José María Olazábal.

There has been criticism of the brand for its association with the 'chavs' however this is misplaced. Lacoste in no way has the same 'chav' problem as, say, Burberry. Lacoste is a popular brand among many young people.

The famous polo shirts retail at around £60 each, with knitwear jumpers going for around £100 and jackets at around £150. There are many outlets for Lacoste clothing, such as House of Fraser. The brand also has examples of Shoes and Fragrances. The Lacoste Red aftershave is a particular favorite of mine.

For anyone considering purchasing Lacoste clothing you can be assured of getting a good quality, very fashionable item. Due to the popularity of the line, there are forgeries out there so its best to purchase from a legitimate retailer.
