Like most girls, I love clothes. I love wearing an outfit that suits my style, mood and figure. After enforcing a strict wardrobe clearout at the start of the year, I am trying to make a sustained effort to keep my wardrobe in good order, and stop buying so much cheap high street rubbish, instead opting for better quality higher end pieces of clothing. Vivienne Westwood is one of the biggest names in British fashion designer ever, and I absolutely love her kooky sense of style. Vivienne Westwood is currently involved in producing several fashion lines, including her red label, gold label, and accessories. She teamed up with Denim deities, Lee to create the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania line. This includes pieces for men and women, and covers basics such as jeans, t-shirts and shirts, all given that Vivienne Westwood twist.
I found these Copper Skinny Jeans while browsing online, and it was love at first sight. Metallics are always a popular trend, but gold and silver never really suit my pale skin tone, and I prefer to stick to warm shades of copper and bronze. These Copper jeans really stood out to me, and I waited patiently until the January sales when I snapped them up at a reduced price! The RRP for this item is £182.00 and I made a good saving, getting them at £109.00.
Product description: "Glimmer through the night in these metallic skinnies. Blending a range of metallic shades, they make quite the impact. Ruffle up the hair and release your inner rock chick."
These jeans are not your typical jeans by any standard. When I saw them online I only spotted the copper colour, but since then I have seen other colours available, including a ghastly pink foil effect. I think the copper colour is very stylish and flattering, and this is what made the item stand out to me in the first place. The copper colour is a foil effect that has been overlaid onto a pale washed denim fabric. This means that as the jeans are worn you will get fade marks (as you would with any jeans) and this creates a unique effect with the bold copper colour making these jeans really stand out from the crowd. The colour on my jeans has only faded a little so far, but I can already identify the areas where the colour will wear down with usage, in particular the saddle section (too much sitting down!), along the joined edges at the side seams, and over the knees where the material flexes when walking.
The jeans themselves are a traditional cut that is flat against the waist and hips, with a straight leg that slightly narrows towards the ankles to give a skinny jeans look. Unlike other skinny jeans that I have I was pleased to discover that it is quick and easy to put these jeans on and remove them again, as there is a little bit more room than with the fashion skinnies. The leg is fitted but not skin tight, which allows for ease of movement when wearing them and also means that I can undress in comfort without having to struggle to peel the jeans off! The leg length sits just at my ankle and works well when worn with boots or high heels. There are nice little details that make the jeans feel special, including copper coloured rivets, an orb logo waistband button, and a black brand label on the back. The jeans undo with a zip and button fly, and there are belt loops spaced evenly around the waistband. There are two roomy pockets at the back as well as two roomy pockets and one smaller inset pocket at the front.
As an added bonus the jeans come with a little freebie, which is a nice little bonus. Attached to the front of the jeans was a Vivienne Westwood keyring. It is a matching copper colour and is has the shape of the iconic orb logo. The edge of the orb is decorated with shiny gold rivets and it has a clip attaching it to the loop at the top, so you can remove it and use it elsewhere. It is quite large and bulky so I haven't actually used it yet, but it does look nice and I may use it for my spare keys so I can find them easily thanks to the large size of the keyring.
"The clothes you need for the life you need."
I had thought it might be a bit difficult to get away with wearing such a bold colour completely covering my legs, but it actually looks great when teamed with a black or neutral coloured top, and I often accessorise with items in my favourite khaki green colour. The metallic copper effect is bright and shiny and does look very glam whether it is dressed up or down. These jeans have proved themselves to be more versatile than I had first imagined, and I have worn them out several times in the day, when going for lunch and day tripping. I've also worn them out on the town for a night out and I felt great in them thanks to the many compliments I received :) They are comfortable to wear and although the fit is not overly figure hugging it does give a nice shape which skims over the legs with just enough room to move around freely without the jeans feeling baggy.
Care instructions: This garment is unique in its colour and comfort, however the colour may transfer. To avoid this and to keep its original look, always...
+ wash and dry separately
+ turn inside out before washing
+ use a mild detergent which contains no bleach
The material is made from 98% Cotton and 2% Elastene. Although I cannot notice any stretch to the jeans it is only a small elastene content and I think this helps to soften the cotton a little and give that tight but comfortable fit. Amazingly enough these little beauties can be machine washed which I found to be a big benefit. It's somewhat expected that expensive clothes will always have a "dry clean only" label inside, and especially with the unique looking finish to the fabric I was surprised to see that it does not really require any special care. I put them in the washing machine on my normal washing cycle at 30 degrees and they come out fine afterwards. Because of the metallic foil finish to the jeans it is important to turn them inside out before washing and NEVER dry it in the tumble dryer. This will cause the metallic effect to be stripped away as I have sadly experienced in a previous tumble dryer accident with another piece of clothing.
Overall, I think these jeans were a good investment to make as I have already worn them several times and I really love the way they look. Even with the bold shiny look to them I have found them surprisingly easy to wear and they seem to suit all sorts of occasions. I am really pleased with the quality and style of these jeans and would definitely recommend them. My first piece of clothing by Vivienne Westwood, and I would certainly be buying more in the future!
