I bought a black one of these Lonsdale Sports Bras from Sports Direct last year and liked it so much that a few weeks later I bought a second one, this time a white one. They were on offer at £5.99 each, whereas the RRP is £22.99. This sports bra is very good at stopping my breasts from bouncing while jogging, and offers plenty of support, although for those with larger breasts I'm not sure the support would be enough.
These sports bras have thick straps and cover a large portion of my back like a crop top, with an elasticated waistband. They have to be pulled on over the head and the only adjustment that you can do is to move the hook and eye at the bottom of the back along. There are 3 different positions for the hook to be in, which makes the waistband looser/tighter.
The material that this bra is made of is 96% Cotton and 4% Lycra with a lining of 85% Polymide and 15% Elastane.
My bras have been washed many times and are in excellent condition, although the white one is a little discoloured, but that may be due to me putting it in the wash with coloureds! After gaining a little weight they rubbed/pinched a little under my arms, which isn't great but motivates me to run more!
Overall a great sports bra, and while on offer at £5.99 they are great value, I don't think I would pay £22.99 for one though!

I actually found this product in the Sports Direct website by typing in Ladies Sports Bra into the search box. It came up with various different results including this item. Although it states the item is a crop top it comes in bra sizes and actually states under the description that it's a training bra. I thought this would be perfect for the gym so I decided to purchase the one. The one I purchase is Black and bright Pink in colour. The main part of the top is black and it has a Pink elasticated waistband which sits just under the bust. This has lions all around it which is the Lonsdale logo. The Lonsdale logo can also be found on the front right side of the top as well. The top itself is made from 96% Cotton and 4% Lycra and has a mesh lining which is made from 85% Polymide and 15% Elastane. I loved the look of the Pink & Black top so decided to purchase this colour.

I purchased this from the Sports Direct website and it cost me £6.00. The top is available in sizes 32B to 38C. It comes in a range of different colours including Black/Pink, Toxic Red/Deep Blue, Bold Green/Dewberry, Grey Marl, Black, Charcoal Marl/Vivid Coral, Navy/Toxic Red, White and Washed Fluro Orange. All of these are actually at a reduced price from £22.99 and you can purchase matching shorts as well.
Wearing the Top

I found the top a little odd at first because although it states it's a training bra you still have to put it over your head and then it fastens with hooks like a bra would. There is a small cut out hold above the fastener which looks quite nice. The bra is shaped perfectly and it's fits nicely around my breasts. I purchased this top in what my normal bra size would be and it wasn't too tight but wasn't loose either. I have worn this under a vest when going to the gym and it's comfortable and doesn't cause me any discomfort. This is perfect for when I am doing various things as the gym such as weights and other exercises. The straps to the top are quite wide and they are adjustable so you can adjust it to suit you. The top doesn't have any padding in so it does make me look a little flat chested, how-ever I didn't really care as I don't particularly look glamorous when I'm at the gym anyway!

I think this top is great value and is perfect for when I go the gym. If you have quite a big bust then I don't think this would provide enough support for you, especially not for exercise such as running. The top is really comfortable to wear and isn't too tight. The elasticated band which sits just under the bust stops the top from moving about. I always wear this top when I go to the gym or when I am working out at home as I feel that it gives me more support than what a normal bra would. In terms of value I think it's really good value, especially as it's been reduced so much from the original price. I have also purchased the shorts as well; how-ever I wouldn't wear these down the gym as they are very short and also tight fitting as well. If you do light work-outs I think this is a great top, how-ever if you do things such as running then you probably need something that will support you more.
(review also on ciao)
After my white sports bras were looking a little past there sell by date, I decided to get some new ones. I went with the intention of buying the same brand - shock absorber - but these were not available in the shop sports direct, but the suggested a Lonsdale one.
Lonsdale immediately conjures up the thought of boxing for me and I guess like many others they have diversified there brand into providing sports clothes as will as sports and adjoining products. A British brand which has been around since the 1960's it has earnt it's trust worthy brand stance.
- The bras come in sizes from32B up to a 36E
- Costing a RRP of £22.99 however, I purchased mine for a bargain £7.99 in the sale.
- Available from www.lonsdale.com, sports direct shops and online store www.sportsdirect.co.uk and fairly widely available on www.Amazon.co.uk, www.ebay.co.uk, and sports retailers.
***WHAT I THINK?***
The design I really like. They are available in black, white, grey and I think some brighter colours too - mine is black. It has the style of a bra with a v shaped front which shows some cleavage, which I guess is good depending on the style of top you wear over it. The adjustable straps are bra type and are about 2cm wide, this allows for great support from above without digging into you shoulders.
The elasticated band which fits neatly under your bust is just over 2cm wide and has a parade of mini lions walking along which are the Lonsdale trademark. It fits snugly and does not dig in and give a reasonable amount of control for the lower bust area, although I do feel it could be slightly tighter.
The bra itself has a double layer - on the inside a soft, smooth, mesh lining made from 85% polyamide and 15% elastane this is very comfortable and prevents your bust from chaffing whilst running.
On the outside the lower half is a soft cotton making you bra occlusive, with a mesh type band about 4cms which follows the v of the bra. The Lonsdale word trademark sits in the top left corner of your bust.
Moving around to the back, I found the back a little odd at first as I was expecting a bra effect. Here they give you a pull over your head style bra similar to a crop top with a single clasp which holds the under bust elastic in place which has three positions. I do like it though once I got used to it as I like the over head bit gives added security from anything accidentally coming undone. It also provides a small circle of skin exposed, which has no purpose really but does look good!
I have worn this bra mainly for jogging, but have used it for yoga and workouts. It is probably best suited to lower impact workouts and jogging I find ok, I find it very comfortable I am a 36D and have had no issues with to much bounce! However, when doing high impact workouts or running there is some bouncing about and I would prefer something a little more secure for those exercises. I guess as with many sports bras the bigger you are the harder it will be to get good control. Nothing digs in and the bra washes great with minimal drying time which is a bonus.
Made from - Main - 96% cotton, 4% lycra/elestane Lining- 85% poyamide, 15% elastane Trims - 76% polyamide 24% elestodiene
Comes in a lovely box! And there are matching items available too - crop top and shorts.
Would I recommend? yes
I bought Lonsdale Sports Bra from Amazon.co.uk for just £4.00, a pure bargain.
The name of it doesn't indicate the level of support but as a sports bra you'd rather expect it to be fit for vigorous activities. Don't - it is more of a top that a bra and support would be 2nd on the list it offers.
It is very comfy though... so comfort first and some support 2nd.
It is suitable for gentler sports - definitely not recommended for running but great for yoga, callanetix or similar. I'd classify it as low towards medium (but not exactly medium) support.
The front part of the bra is made of double layered fabric, outer being 96% Cotton with 4% Lycra/Elastane and inner layer made of 85%Polyamide with 15% Elastane. It has a racer back straps made of Polyamid/Elastane mesh for better support and side plastic hooks with a slight possibility of adjustment. There is also elastic band under the bust and front mesh insert for stability.
The bra is true to size. I bought 34DD just as my normal bra size and it fits well.
One inconvenience is that you have to pull it over your head, as it has no fastener, only adjusters on sides, hence the top rather than a bra.
It washes well in a washing machine even though it indicates hand wash only. I wash it at 40 C and every time it comes out "ship-shape".
Overall good sports top for light to medium activities excluding jogging.
