I was surpised how nice this looks on and how flattering it was.

I don't tend to buy myself expensive new clothes, but my mum and mother in law always pick me things up for my birthday and Christmas that are that bit more special than my primark and supermarket bargains. My latest acquisition was a vest top from my mother in law 2 months ago for my birthday. The top is a very floral design, and available in only two colours. One is a dark blue background, and the one I have is a white background, but the design is very heavily floral featuring blue, orange and red flowers. The blue is a light blue rather than dark, so it looks very summery to me. The straps are quite thick conmpared to other vest tops I own, being about an inch thick. I like this as it covers my bra strap well so it looks that bit smarter. There is some crochet edging around the inner edge of the straps and along the rounded neckline. The same edging is used along the bottom edge of the top, and there is also a crocheted floral design panel on the chest area, which also features 3 small decorative buttons. The top is slightly elasticated around the bottom so that it draws back in to your body, and there are two cotton straps which tie behind the top to provide a bit of fitting under the bust area to shape the vest. These straps are the same pattern as the vest. I opened this present at first and felt a feeling of dread as my mother in law had bought me a size 14. I am currently maybe one or two sizes larger than that, so I was expecting to be taking it back and not being able to get the size I would need. However, this top is very forgiving due to the straps providing the shaping and the elasticated bottom edge. So I found that I could wear this and it actually look very nice on. I always find that Marks and Spencers clothes are that bit more forgiving in size compared to the shops aimed at younger woman like Top Shop and New Look. The top not only fit, I looked quite slim in it. The length of this is quite good for me. I do prefer slightly longer tops normally, but this one came to below the waist band on my trousers, so I was happy that I didn't have a ridge of exposed flesh on show. It couldn't have been much longer with the type of fitted bottom it has. I would say that this top might be better tried on in the shop rather than ordering online as you might find you need a smaller size in it than the one you should really be wearing. The price of this is £17.50, which is rather steep for just one vest top in my opinion, even though it is really pretty and smart looking compared to a plain vest. However, it is 100% cotton, and it is a good quality vest which washes well maintaining colour and shape, and should last a few years. So it is reasonable value in that it is not going to shrink or twist like cheaper ones do. I may not have chosen to buy it if I had seen it in the shop as I think it looks far better on than it does folded up.
