“ Brand: Matalan „
It was my lovely dad who gave me my pair of Matalan 3D Knitted Sleep Socks at Christmas this year. I am sad to say that they never lasted the course though and they soon became a right old mess. It might be my own fault as I am not one of the world's most 'careful washers' and though I am sure I never washed these socks in my washing machine at a higher temperature than forty degrees, they soon became unrecognisable as a reindeer. They were fun while they lasted though and I received them in my Christmas sticking. My dad always buys me daft socks at Christmas, he's done it for years.
He got these ones from our nearest Matalan shop and they cost £4 for the pair. They also did the robin ones too though I do think that the reindeer ones were a bit more clever in the design as Rudolph came with legs, antlers, a knitted scarf and ears and a nice bright red nose. They were definitely a festive item and not socks that you'd want to wear all year round. I never wore these socks to bed because they were a bit lumpy and I just used to wear them round the flat until I washed them into oblivion.
They were nice and warm as I remember and they were a good fit though they didn't come in different sizes. My feet are between a size five and six and they fitted me really well and didn't slip down when I moved around the flat. My flat is really quite cold and I've got night storage heaters and laminate flooring and it's always freezing so they did come in handy because they were knitted in a nice thick chucky type of wool in goof festive colours. They also had those little plastic dots all over the bottom of the feet so that whenever I popped downstairs to get my post I knew I wasn't going to slip down the stairs in them if I just left my shoes off.
They never lasted more than about six washes though because the scarf came off at one end quiet quickly but then his legs fell off and the cuffs around the top of them started to fray. My dad said I must have tumble dried them but I am positive that I didn't.
For this reason, I wouldn't recommend them as a pair of socks that are going to last you for ages. They are just a novelty item for Christmas but still good fun to give and receive and for that reason alone I'd recommend them.
These were a stocking filler from my mum last christmas and not something I'd usually pick myself.
These socks come with a label with a little hook that I'm guessing is used for hanging on the rack in the store. They are thick, (machine) knitted and have grips on the bottom. The main attraction of the socks is the woolen rudolph stiched onto the front which I'm sure would appeal to some children too!
I checked and they come in sizes small, medium and large. Just go by your shoe size really, I'm an 8/9 in womens shoes so by mum brought me the large. They are stretchy so I wouldn't be too worried if you go for a size smaller than you are as they will probably fit anyhow.
Putting them on, they feel cosy but a little itchy. I have wooden flooring so I tested the grips out and they do work pretty well as an alternative to a slipper. Obviously they aren't padded or anything like slippers so your feet arent as cosy and water comes through them more easily. The reindeer feature is a nice touch, however you can't really wear boots or shoes with these socks outside as it'll look a bit daft and because they're so thick they probably won't feel comfortable anyway with shoes.
Price wise I am unsure about how much these cost as they were a gift but they are probably around the £4 mark as I have seen similar socks in matalan for this price. As for all christmas stuff it goes down to half price or less after the 25th...but I don't think anyone would really buy these after christmas as the novelty wears off then! lol
Personally if I want cosy socks I go for the fleece ones rather than the knitted ones. These in my opinion were a bit itchy and made my feet uncomfortable rather than cosy.
A fun gift but not for me :(
Just though I would write a quick review on these, as I purchased a pair and never had them off, so comfy and cheap as they were reduced to £2.50 when I purchased , they are also great as a gift too, even as a secret santa gift, I love Matalan for their socks and tights so when I seen these I had to have them
Ever since I can remember whenever my mum and dad go Christmas shopping they have always bought me a little present back, even now I'm married with a baby they still do it, and one for Jayden and Mark too! They recently went to Matalan and as tradition dictates they bought me something back, this time it was a pair of Matalan 3D Knitted Sleep Socks.
The socks came with no real packaging just a plastic tag, and are currently priced online at £4.00, I have no idea if this is what my mum paid for them but I assume she did.
In my opinion the socks, rather than being described as sleep socks, are what I would call slipper socks. They are black and white stripes with the toe and the cuff being black. They have little red non slip gripper dots on the bottom of them making them ideal for wood, tile or vinyl flooring. What makes these 3D is the cute little stuffed reindeer sewn onto the front of them, he's been knitted in brown wool and has little ears and antlers, a cute smiley face with eyes and a big red nose, making him Rudolph I presume, he has a nice warm knitted scarf around his neck in a very festive red and white and a fat little body with front legs, his back legs are further down and are separate from the main part of his body.
The socks are a "one size fits all item", I am a size 6 and they fit me perfectly coming a little way above my ankle, they are nice and soft too making my feet real warm and snug.
I personally don't wear these in bed I found the reindeer annoying so I wear them as slippers and find the little gripper dots do an excellent job of stopping me slipping on my wood and vinyl floors, I do find the grippers sometimes feel slightly sticky as I walk on the vinyl floor but this isn't really a problem.
I've washed these socks several times now on a regular 30 or 40oC wash and they have kept their shape perfectly. I haven't lost any of the little gripper dots from the bottom and Rudolph still has all his bits and pieces intact although his scarf is a little frayed one end.
If reindeers aren't your thing then the Matalan website also sell these in a sweet robin design too, I have no idea if the robin socks are in store or just online but I would imagine so.
I would recommend these 3D Reindeer Sleep Socks, they are cute, practical and very festive, they are wearing and washing well too. The price tag is good making them great little stocking fillers as well. I've been very pleased with mine.
~*~*~* Matalan 3D Knitted Sleep Socks ~*~*~
~ What are they? ~
These socks are thick knitted socks and are available in two different designs, one being black and white striped with a cute knitted reindeer and the other pair being pink and red striped with a lovely little knitted robin.
~ It's only October so why have I bought Christmas socks already? ~
As you may have seen on my profile page, I have very kindly added a 'how many sleeps until Christmas' countdown and as this may suggest I do love Christmas so when I saw these socks in Matalan I just couldn't resist buying them! I bought the reindeer ones for myself and the robin ones for my mum, but I can see me going back to Matalan for the robin ones for myself too!
~ The socks ~
Matalan sell a large range of socks from your standard sock to fluffy socks to thick knitted socks and even though I wasn't looking for a pair of slipper socks when I saw these I had to get them.
The socks are really funky with a nice black and white stripe and on the front of the sock is a large knitted reindeer, the underneath of the sock is covered in little red rubbery grips making them ideal for waling across laminate flooring without me ending up skating along the floor like Bambi on ice!
The socks are nice and thick being a chunky knit and are made from 94% Acrylic and 6% Polyester.
They are machine washable which is great!
I have washed them on a 40° cycle and popped them in the tumble dryer on a low heat setting and they have come out looking great with no shrinkage at all, they do feel a bit more snugger when they first come out but they soon get back to their original shape and fit.
~ Availability and Price ~
These socks are from Matalan, I bought them instore but they can be bought online unfortunately today (28/10/2012) they are showing up as out of stock although you can set up an email alert to let you know when they are back in stock.
My local store however had plenty in stock so I would recommend checking in your local store if you have one near enough.
They cost £4.00 which I think is a good price for a slipper/sleep sock.
~ Overall Opinion ~
I adore these socks. You may have read in my previous reviews on footwear I absolutely hate my feet being cold and I already have a few slipper booties, socks and normal slippers but I haven't got any with a stuffed reindeer on the front so I really loved these as soon as I saw them.
I wear them in the evenings and they are just so toasty and warm. They feel nice and comfortable on my feet and look really festive too.
My hubby aka Scrooge hates looking at them as they remind him that Christmas is fast approaching the socks and the fact that I write down how many sleeps 'till Christmas on his chalkboard mug too haha!
They don't come in a particular size they are a one size fits all sock but I find that they fit my size 5 feet very well, the toe area is a bit baggy but after a wash and tumble dry they seem to fit more snuggly!
The reindeer is really cute, he is coloured in browns and black and has a bright red nose which leads me to believe this reindeer is modeled on none other than Rudolph! He is also wearing a very cute red and white stripy scarf, his little feet aren't attached to his body they sit just above the toe area of the sock but you can make them move by wriggling your toes which makes them all the more sweet!
My 11 year old pinched these from the dryer the other night and he is a size 3 to 4 and they fit him too but they are a bit looser on him. He loves them too so I think I will be making a trip to Matalan for another pair for him shortly!
These would make lovely cheap Christmas presents as they are so Christmasy and warm.
The grippers on the bottom are just little red rubbery circles which do stop me slipping and sliding so they are an important feature on the sock, they are great for walking around indoors but I wouldn't recommend them for outdoors they are after all just a thick sock.
They have done a fantastic job at keeping my feet toasty and warm on these cold, cold evenings and I can see them being worn for a good few months yet.
They are really cute socks at a very decent price.

~Matalan 3D Sleep Socks~
Matalan offer lots of different styles of sleep socks including plain, glittery and furry! At the moment, they offer a range of seasonal/festive sleep socks. Today I will be discussing the '3D Knitted Sleep Socks' in the reindeer design.
These sleep socks can be worn around the house or whilst in bed to keep your feet snug. They feature grippers on the bottom to avoid slipping on wooden flooring. The socks are made from 94% acrylic and 6% polyester. They feature a 3D reindeer design! They can be washed in the washing machine.
~Price and Availability~
These sleep socks are 'one size fits all'. They can be bought instore or online from www.matalan.co.uk priced at just £4.00. They are currently sold out online due to popular demand.
Anyone who knows me will be aware that I am obsessed with all things Christmassy! When shopping in Matalan recently, I was immediately drawn to the sleep socks that they have on offer. I loved nearly every design but the pair that caught my eye instantly was the reindeer socks. I couldn't resist buying them and will be going back soon to buy the other designs!
I was a little concerned that these wouldn't fit me well. I am a size 8.5-9 in shoes which is larger than most ladies feet. I often struggle to fit my tootsies into regular socks but thankfully these just fitted me! I would say they would fit shoe sizes 4-8 comfortably. These socks didn't come in any packaging but were secured together using a tag and piece of plastic.
These sleep socks are actually cheaper than the less fancy socks in Matalan and I was more than happy to pay £4.00 for them. I think they would make a lovely gift. The actual sock is made up of thick navy blue and white stripes. The socks are of a decent quality and well made using a thick, wooly material which doesn't catch easily and is incredibly soft against my skin. When I first tried these socks on, I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get my wide feet or 'cankles' into them but they fit neatly and felt secure. The socks cover up past my ankles but not by far.
There are lots of red grippers at the bottom of the socks which is essential for those of us who have wooden flooring. I can feel them through the sock material which is often slightly uncomfortable when I am walking around the house so for this reason, I prefer my slipper boots. The grippers do work well and stop me from slipping around and causing myself damage. Once on, these socks do keep my feet lovely and warm without overheating. They feel snug and are comfortable to wear for lazing around or when in bed.
The talking point of these socks is the reindeer design. Whilst the main sock is thick yet lightweight, the 3D design does add quite a bit of weight onto each sock. I notice this weight more when I lie a certain way in bed when wearing these as my feet feel heavy and a little restricted but not uncomfortably so. These socks are definitely of a novelty nature and to fully show them off, I need to wear shorter pyjamas or trousers! Whenever we have had evening visitors, they have always commented on how cool my socks are and I must say, I have to agree!
The reindeer is well stitched on and there is no fear of him falling off. He has a big red nose so we will refer to him as Rudolph. Rudolph has a soft, padded tummy and face (inc his red nose). He also has well padded arms (or would that be legs?) and pointy up ears. Rudolph also features a beautiful red and white scarf. Rudolphs other legs are not attatched to the main 3D body but to the bottom of the socks. One leg has started to come away from the socks and is hanging by a thread which I am quite disappointed about. The others seem to be staying put though.
One issue I have with these socks is that they tend to slip about on my feet. As I said before, I prefer to wear my slipper boots when walking around and mainly keep these for wearing to bed. On the occasion where I do wear these around the house, I find they socks don't stay sitting properly. I often feel like I am stepping on something spongey before looking down to see I am stepping on Rudoplh as the socks have slipped down and around my feet. It isn't a major issue though.
These sleep socks have been through a few washes. I put them on a 30c quick wash normally and find they have remained in good condition with no fading or running of the colours. They are by far the coolest socks I own and I wear them a lot when at home.
These sleep socks aren't perfect - I do have a few niggles as stated above but for the best part, they look cool and keep my toes, feet and ankles cosy when in bed. They may not be the sexiest things to wear to bed but when the nights are so cold, they provided ample warmth and comfort which ultimately helps me sleep better. I can see me cutting that stray leg off soon though - poor Rudolph!
