As the cold months have quickly approached us it has meant that my winter wardrobe has made a sharpish appearance. Now, I am by no means the most fashionable person on this planet but I do like to keep with the trends. Now this doesn't mean I buy everything to keep up with fashion instead I buy what I like and what makes me feel comfortable. A winter trend currently is knits in the form of cardigans, jumpers, dresses, leggings and the like.
A month or so ago I had decided to update my wardrobe a little and decided to buy a few winter warmers which included a very lovely jumper from Republic - the official name being the Miso Pointelle Jumper. Miso is a brand housed by Republic and is budget friendly. Miso's clothes are not set at a target age group whilst some pieces are just too young for me they do have a nice varied selection for those of us that don't want to show off our midriff or back end in a pair of denim shorts which are far too small!
The Pointelle jumper is aptly named as it has been created by using the 'pointelle' form of knitting. Basically it is a version of crochet which creates an openness of the design. Pointelle has been used a lot recently to give a garment texture whilst making it lightweight as well. Because of it being quite a lightweight knit it isn't an overly heavy garment so it will keep you cool rather than overheat you. The jumper comes in three colours; black, beige or purple. I bought the purple as I knew it would be the most versatile colour for me.
The knitted jumper comes in sizes 6 to 16 and I opted for a size 8. Despite choosing this size I really could have done with a smaller size as although it has a scoop neck (which is part of the design) I found it a little too loose for my liking and occasionally drapes over my shoulder making it a little uncomfortable for me especially if wearing underneath a coat or jacket. Having said that it is designed to give a relaxed fit so it is going to be on the baggy side which to be fair as a casual day look is absolutely fine. I had however bought online so didn't try it on and although I could have taken it back I did choose not to.
The crochet design really does add texture to this jumper as it makes it look a bit more interesting than your average knitted jumper. It has ribbed detailing which of course adds to the overall look. Despite it being crocheted it doesn't have large holes so does manage to keep you quite warm but of course you would need to wear something underneath such as a vest top especially as the wide scoop neck can come down over your shoulder. The sleeves are quite long which is something to take into consideration and are a little baggy so don't expect slim fit.
Miso described the Pointelle Knitted Jumper as "feminine and flirty, this is one jumper that won't weigh you down in the style stakes" and I definitely agree. Its pointelle knit really does add quite a feminine touch and because it does give quite a nice fit despite being a relaxed jumper the way it hangs is most important, it doesn't loose your body shape which is obviously great but it doesn't add 10 pounds onto you either which some knitted jumpers have the magical ability of making you look bulkier than you actually are.
To wear the jumper is lovely despite my little issues above on the whole I find this an incredibly comfortable jumper to wear. The material used is incredibly soft and doesn't irritate the skin which is ideal. It does seem slightly longer at the back than it does on the front which is fine as I like my tops/jumpers/cardigans to finish over the top of my jeans not only as it keeps my warm but I prefer the longer length items to create a bit of shape and this does it perfectly. Enough for it to finish just after my jeans top button which for me is a great fit as I did wonder after looking at the picture on the website just how long it would be.
I have had this jumper for about a month now and it has quickly become a favourite despite my sizing issue simply because it is such a versatile jumper and of course it keeps me nice and warm! It is machine washable at 40° but I don't tumble dry, I simply leave it flat to dry naturally as I don't want it to loose it's shape. Fortunately after the several washes it has had, it is still in perfect condition the material hasn't started to become furry which some knitted products can end up like. It also hasn't lost it's shape either which is even better as sum knitted garments can if not looked after.
Overall, this is a lovely pointelle knitted jumper with a crochet design that is up to speed with the trends and certainly doesn't make you look like a granny! It gives a nice overall shape when you wear it and it keeps you warm. One thing I would say is that if you are in between sizes you may be best trying in store rather than ordering online. Since buying the beige I have bought the black (in the smaller size!) simply because I find it a really comfortable jumper to wear for every day use when not at work.
Perfect with: Skinny jeans and ballet pumps for a casual look.
