This is a review of a pair of maternity shorts I recently bought from Mothercare's maternity range. I was desperate for some shorts when we had that hot weather and whilst I don't have the best legs to show off, I am just entering the 'I really don't care' phase of this pregnancy where I am just feeling a bit fat and frumpy and whilst a lot of my clothes don't fit, I don't look pregnant either!
Under the bump
In my last pregnancy I hated the over bump fittings as I never really got that big I just didn't need that sort of coverage so went for mainly under the bump styles and filled in any gap with a bump band!
When I saw the Mothercare under the bump denim shorts I thought they looked perfect and just ended over the knee which was a definite plus for my legs! The waistband is really stretchy soft jersey material and comfortable so you can position it in the right place for you.
* Fitted and cut for a pregnant figure for comfort
* Under the bump jersey band for support and comfort
* Available in sizes 8-16
The shorts are 100% cotton and wash just like jeans and are recommended to wash at 40 degrees finishing with a medium iron. I have found these to wash and wear really well so far.
These shorts are actually quite fashionable and look nice on which I am surprised to hear myself say as I don't think shorts tend to suit me. I usually go for cropped trousers as I am tall and this seems to look better on me. I like the turn up on the bottom of the shorts as they finish the look off nicely and don't dig into your legs. They go with any top, tshirt, vest (as long as they are fairly summery and not wintery looking!) so are very versatile. Shoes wise I have a few pairs of sandals that I think look nice with the shorts. The main priority for me whilst pregnant is to go for comfort, especially when the weather is hot and I think these shorts fit the bill nicely.
Price and availability
On the Mothercare website, these shorts are listed at £24 which I think is quite enough for something you will only get one summer's wear from really. However, they do look really nice and will be worn many times by me. I was lucky enough to find these shorts on the sale rail at my local Mothercare and they were having a good promotional event so the rail was full of a variety of sizes. The website states they are available in sizes 8 - 16 but mine are a bigger size than this but exactly the same as pictured, and I find the Mothercare maternity range a bit snug so went up a size larger than I normally take. I was lucky to find these shorts reduced from £24 to £13 then when I got to the till they came up at £7.80 (don't you love it when that happens?!).
I just love these shorts and hope we have plenty of nice weather so I can wear them lots over the summer. An added bonus that I might even get a bit of tan on my legs too whilst wearing the shorts. I won't be going abroad this year so I will make the most of this British weather! I think I got a real bargain with these shorts and will either gift them to a friend once I have no use for them or I will sell them on Ebay and probably get my money back!
