I have a lot of vest tops and love to wear them over the Spring and Summer months, often throwing over a cardigan to cover my arms when it's not particularly hot weather - which let's face it is most of the time! I came across this New Look boyfriend cardigan a couple of years ago now, costing £12.99. It was available in a wide range of colours - the store I bought it from stocked (from memory) white, black, grey, two shades of blue and a couple of brighter colours too. I remember being torn about the colour to go for as they were all appealing. I went for a medium blue one in the end as I thought it was the perfect colour to go over a variety of tops and also went well with jeans. I also felt that the medium blue colour wasn't so dark so it would also be suitable for use over black trousers. It's the type of garment that, depending on the colour chosen, can be used to dress up or dress down and wouldn't look out of place at work as well as at home. I've worn mine for the office lots of times!
The cardigan is made of 96% viscose and 4% elastane which feels very thin so is not ideal to keep warm in winter - but the material does make it the perfect option for keeping the chill off my arms over the warmer months and provide an extra layer to cover my arms and shoulders. The material is so thin that in some parts it is very slightly see through, but that doesn't bother me really with it being used over vests normally. The sleeves are a full length and although sometimes I find that sleeves can be long on me, these have always been perfect length. The sizing is ok, although I do find in general that I need a smaller size in New Look than in most other womenswear shops. The material makes it comfortable to wear and it is quite shapely. One thing that would have been nice is buttons down the front to fasten it although it's not a big issue really when wearing.
There are two pockets on the front towards the bottom that are large and designed as 'scooped' dropped pockets, so not really very defined - they merge into the main area of the cardigan and are made of the same material so are thin as well. They could be mistaken as just ruches in the material when looked at from afar. Because of the design, I don't find that they're particularly useful, especially in the case of heavier items. For example, I popped my bunch of keys in one once and it just weighed the pocket right down and made the cardigan go completely out of shape. The pockets are handy to have for very light things, for example tissues, but not much else.
My cardigan has worn very well and I haven't noticed it bobble at all even though I have washed it quite a few times on a normal wash with no separate softener. It also dries pretty well in the dryer although it comes out very creased. Care has to be taken when ironing it, again due to it being thin.
I would recommend this cardigan as a throwover in the Summer months and I feel that £12.99 is a reasonable price. I wouldn't recommend it for the colder months - I find that a much thicker, woollen type one to be more appropriate. I've rated it three stars as I feel that it's a good product, although not exceptional due to the reasons I've outlined. It's nice as an extra in my wardrobe though.
Thanks for reading :o)
I wear a cardigan every day. They are the most versatile wardrobe staple for any shape & style. I am quite self conscious about my arms & waist, and I feel that a cardigan is a great 'throw over any outfit and hide all evils' wardrobe essential. Cardigans therefore should be long lasting, comfortable and cost effective. As far as I'm considered, the New Look Boyfriend Cardigan ticks all these boxes!
The material is soft and with a nice bit of stretch in it so that it fits to your arms has a bit of 'give' in it. It's got a nice length to it which covers any possible 'lumps and bumps'. I know that some people prefer a shorter cardigan if you have a short body, but for me, this length is perfect.
I've been buying cardigans from New Look for over a year now, I did used to buy them for cheaper at another retailer but it's more cost effective to buy a slightly more expensive cardigan which will last for a lot longer. As I said, I wear a cardigan every day, I get a lot of wear out of these! I have several different colours of this particular cardigan because of the quality & cost. As I wear it every day, the cost per wear of this item is amazing ! I've had one cardigan for over a year now without any change in shape or texture.
I can't fault this cardigan, it suits all my needs.
I shop in New Look quite a lot because the clothes are good quality (and the shoes) and also they don't charge the earth. I have loads of cardigans, and I wear one all the time as I don't like the dimply bits on the tops of my arms. One of the ones I wear a lot is the Boyfriend style cardigan I bought from New Look about a year ago and I paid about £13 for this. I wear it so much that people must think it's the only item of clothing I have.
I don't iron, or at least I don't really have time to iron so that's another reason why I love this cardigan so much. I wash it at the lowest temperature and then I just hang it up in the little bathroom and the creases drop out. They don't drop out of the sleeves quiet as well as they do on the rest of the body but then the sleeves are very narrow and they stretch so by the time I have had it on for about half an hour, the creases will have dropped out anyway.
I have one of these cardigans in black and another one in a dark green. I don't think they'd really keep you very warm on cold winter days and I wear mine underneath my coat. They are quite thin but they wash well and I love the green one probably the most as it goes with so many of my clothes.
It's not a really smart cardigan and I wouldn't wear it if I was going out but it's great to wear every day for lectures and stuff and I wear it mainly with vest tips underneath and my black or pattered leggings. It's quite versatile and like so many things from New Look, I really love it.
It's worth the money and I'd recommend it.
The cardigan is a staple part of my wardrobe and it is very versatile and suitable to wear for most occasions. I do like New Look clothes in general as I find that they are well made and quite reasonable, although I do find that the sizes aren't very generous and I have to buy a bigger size than at some other stores.
These long sleeved boyfriend cardigans currently cost £12.99 and come in sizes 8 to 18. I am usually a six 16 in tops but I tried a 16 on and it was a bit on the snug size and as I like to wear cardigans when I am relaxing in the house and like them to be a comfortable fit so I bought the size 18. I bought the black one as I already had a similar cardigan in navy and also green, but you can also get them in light grey, dark grey, stone and navy.
These cardigans are quite lightweight and hang well, and it is long enough to cover my bottom which is always a bonus. I will wear this cardigan with jogging bottoms or leggings in the house on top of a t shirt or vest top and I have also worn it to go out with a pair of jeans which makes it look a bit more dressy. It is made of 96 per cent polyester and 4 per cent elastane and I just wash it on a 30 degree wash and then if I put it on a coat hanger and either place on the clothes airer or on the washing line I find that it dries quickly and doesn't generally need ironing. The only times I have had to give it a quick once over with the iron is when I have bought it in from outside and folded it up with it not being completely dry or placed other items on top but any crinkles iron out easily.
It is not a really thick cardigan so I probably wouldn't use it to keep me warm if I wore it outside but I think it is ideal to wear around the house to keep you feeling snug and cosy. The sleeves are a bit on the long side for me but as my arms are on the short side I am used to this and I just turn the cuff over an inch and they fit perfectly. It has two drop pockets which start at the front middle of the cardigan and drape round to the sides and are quite roomy. I will only usually put tissues in the pockets and try to make sure that I fish them out before I put the cardigan into the washing machine!
I have found this cardigan to be hard wearing as I have worn it quite a lot and washed it numerous times and it has not bobbled or gone out of shape. I would definitely buy another one maybe in another colour and recommend it as a lightweight smart cardigan which you can wear for any occasion and is good value at £12.99.
A few months ago, towards the end of Summer 2013 I attended a friends wedding. I had brought a lovely dress from New Look. However, to attend the evening party I needed some kind of cover up for the cooler summer nights. I spotted all of the 'boyfriend' cardigans in New Look and opted for a peachy pink shade which matched my dress perfectly.
The price of the cardigan was only £12.99 which I think is a really affordable price for a good quality cardigan. New Look also offer student discount which makes this a bit cheaper if you apply for this. I can't fault the price of this, and I was completely happy to pay this.
Even though I opted for the peachy pink shade, I noticed that they did a whole variety of colours and still do. There was darker colours such as greys and blacks as well as lighter ones such as purples and creams. They are a great everyday essential and make it easy to throw together an outfit.
I normally would have seen this style of cardigan as quite a casual option. It looks perfect just teamed with jeans and a t-shirt for an every day look. However, the shade I chose matched perfectly with quite a formal dress and still looked great. These can be worn with a whole host of outfits - and are great as a cover up.
I am not quite sure why these are called boyfriend cardigans - but I really like this style. It is long enough so that it reaches past your back. I find with some cardigans that they become really short when you sit down and it really annoys me! Because of the length, it looks great with leggings as it is quite long. I also like that these are long sleeve too. They are made from 95% polyester and 5% elastane. Due to this, it is quite a thin cardigan. It is not particularly effective at keeping you warm due to it being so thin. It is nice for spring and summer to cover up a little bit, however I certainly wouldn't recommend it during the cold winter months as a thicker knitted cardigan may be more suitable.
Another feature I like about these cardigans is that they have drop pockets. The pockets are huge and good for carrying around little bits like chewing gum. I do not feel that they are sturdy enough to hold things such as my phone or purse as it does not contain a fastening. I wouldn't expect a pocket on a thin cardigan such as this, so it is a nice added extra and would be beneficial to some people.
I have owned this now for quite a few months, and after a good few washes it is still in a great condition. It has not gone bobbly at all and still looks like new. I am very impressed with this cardigan from New Look, and I will be returning later in the spring to purchase some more colours! Thanks for reading and hope this helps.
I was looking for a light cardigan to wear during this summer as an alternative to the chunky knit ones I own to wear when it's abit more chilly. I came across this cardigan in new look for £12.99 and it was just what I was looking for.
A quick look on the new look website shows me they are currently selling these in black, navy, burgundy and red but I've seen more colours in store. These cardigans are quite lightweight, long sleeved with a drop pocket. I chose to buy black because I felt it would go with more of the clothes I already own.
I found this cardigan to be very practical, great to just throw on when it's not cold enough for a coat but not warm enough to go without. I like wearing mine with jeans as the length comes just below my bum which is my preference with cardigans. I personally don't find this dressy enough to wear for a special occasion or a night out due to the lightweight material.
I wash this in a normal mixed load wash at 30 degrees and it has lasted me months. As the material is quite thin it does crease easily, couple of times I've chucked it off in the car and it's been ridiculously creased when I've put it on again. I've learnt this lesson now and always fold it and also dry it on the back of a chair.
The sizes of this cardigan I think are quite small, I normally buy a 10 but bought this in a 12 because the arms of the 10 were too tight on me and I have quite bony arms! Not sure in this case whether the 10 would also have been too short for me. I would suggest buying the next size up in this cardigan as it will be worn over another layer.
I would recommend this cardigan for daytime wear during the warmer spring and summer days, or under a coat in the winter months. Mine is still in like new condition after months of wear so it is definitely £12.99 well spent.
5 out of 5
I currently own this cardigan in two colours, black and orange. They were both purchased in store, the black one was full price (I believe around £12.99) and the orange one was around £5 in the sale.
The cardigans are well made, I usually find New Look clothes to generally be of good quality, I've had the black one for about a year and there are no holes or bobbling. I do tend to get holes in the upper arms of cardigans (I have no idea why). They I bought them both in my usual size 10 and they feel the right size. The cardigan is long with drop pockets on each side, with full length sleeves. They drop straight down and stay close to the body. They are easy to wash, I've put them in 30 and 40 degree washes and they've come out absolutely fine. The orange one needs an iron after washing but the black one I can generally get away with!
This cardigan is fairly thin, it's great for summer when you just need something to cover up in at night (and I find is portable enough to stick in a handbag), or for winter to wear with a tshirt if you want to layer, but it wouldn't do so well in the very cold winter months.
I've got three long black cardigans in my collection, but this is the one I wear the least. The reason is it's just not long enough! Now I'm no Elle Macpherson at 5'3", but I like to wear long cardigans with a range of outfits such as jeans or dresses. I can wear it with jeans and the bottom of the cardigan falls just below my bottom. However, I don't think it falls right with dresses. I like long cardigans to match the dress hem or to fall longer and quite frankly I don't wear skirts that short! it's a shame as they're good quality at a good price, but the length just isn't up to what I want and as I say I'm not the tallest in the first place.
Overall I'd say it's a good quality product but for me it's limited due to the length not being right for some outfits. I do wear these occasionally with jeans. They just need some extra length to be spot on!
I'm reviewing two of my 'boyfriend' cardigans.
They were bought in New Look and cost £12.99 each.
Listen, I was wearing boyfriend cardigans before they became fashionable you know!
I used to wear my husband's lovely Argyle patterned one so much that he refused to wear it himself anymore because so many people had seen me wearing it and assumed it was mine. It was a present and he wasn't keen on it anyway, so win-win .
So when they became fashionable and more available I started buying them from proper girly shops.
These cardigans come in a wide range of colours according to the adverts on here, but to be honest our branch of New Look only had about 6 or 7 colour choices when I bought mine. Not sure if they sold out or were just limited in some stores, but I was happy that they had the black which was the one I wanted to go with the cherry red outfit I'd bought for Christmas.
These cardigans are very fine, and this is ideal for when you need an extra layer under your coat in winter or for when you are slobbing round the house and don't need anything too thick or cumbersome.
They are 96% viscose and 4% elastene and need only a cool wash. But even this leaves them a bit squiffy looking in my opinion and in need of ironing. That disappointed me because my last ones were wash, hang up, and once dry you could wear right away. I washed this black one in a cool wash, used minimal spin , pulled it into shape and hung it on a hanger...... but it still dried squiffy looking and needed ironing.
I ironed mine on a warm setting and that worked okay, but I always feel that ironing anything removes the fabric density and leaves it rather flat. And so it was with this. It was flatter and less 'fluffy/soft' and although still perfectly wearable it felt less nice to me.
But to be fair, because of the few dressier occasions I wore it, and because it was black, the cardigan didn't need washed for ages anyway, and it did stay a nice true black.
My second one is purple and I only bought it because it was on the SALE rail for £5 in January and caught my eye. It was possibly a returned item as it hadn't the same number of tags as my black one and had a very slight fragrance of perfume on it. But that might have been from whoever tried it on last. I checked carefully and it was pristine otherwise and identical to my black one.
If I'm honest though I wouldn't have bought the second one even at £5 had I known they need ironing (at that point I hadn't washed the black one yet), but in reality that's my fault for not reading labels.
Come the warm summer days I've used both cardigans when wearing a coat is too much but a cover up is needed for cool evenings or breezy days.
I do like that they are a good length, nicely covering the hips without being too long and sloppy looking.
They have pockets on both sides, but personally I haven't used the pockets, because once they lose shape from having things stuffed in them they often don't return to their original form when the fabric is as fine as this.
To be frank I think these will be redundant by next year, which is disappointing as I like the look of them, but not the care issue.
Would I recommend ? Well that depends.
If you are OK with ironing these kind of things then yes, they will suit you fine. Personally I dislike ironing intensely and my iron only sees the light of day about once every two months. They aren't going to be a long term item in my opinion, so in that respect they disappoint frugal me, and there are ones that wash better out there.
But for shape and style they are nice and can be worn dressy or casual depending on what you team them with.
Regarding stars...... based on my honest personal opinion I think 3 is fair because while they are stylish stylish looking they are not a great fabric for washing.
Thank you for reading~~~myloh.
When I began my new job, I wanted to find a cardigan that could go with everything. I wear a lot of black and everything else I wear for work most definitely goes with black! So, it was entirely natural that I went looking for a black cardigan for work! I went to New Look and immediately saw this "Drop Pocket Boyfriend Cardigan".
This cardigan is a very light feeling material which is 96% viscose and 4% elastane. It feels quite thin and is definitely a summery cardigan. As it's so light feeling, it it very flexible and easy to wear whilst you are on the go. Also, if its one of those days where you can't work out whether you are hot or cold, I have found that this cardigan folds up well into your bag, or alternatively hangs well over the back of an office chair! I have found that it doesn't crease too much and creases drop out quite easily if you are hanging it up. The shape of it is lovely, the pockets extend all the way to the edge of the cardigan which I think makes it hang on you slightly better and the style goes with almost anything.
I have found that it is a very versatile cardigan as I have dressed it up i.e. with a formal dress or with a pencil skirt/blouse just to add an element of less formal; but also, I've worn it with jeans and a t shirt. It goes well with either a more dressy look or a casual look. Being quite tall, I tend to have an issue with sleeves being too short, however I've not had a problem with the sleeves on this cardigan.
This cardigan is easy to wash. The instructions recommend washing at 30 degrees, which I usually do anyway and it really comes out well. The thinness of it does mean that it dries quite quickly on a line, so if you're a tumble dryer kind of person, I really wouldn't put it in for long! I've found that it irons well. It doesn't tend to crease much, which makes it easier to iron anyway.
Over the last year or so, I've brought this in 3 colours (black, white and purple) which goes with practically everything I own. The black one is the oldest and I've had it for approximately a year now. It's worn well, as it's been washed almost on a weekly basis as I wear it so much! I tend to hang it over the back of my chair and throw it on when I have meetings etc or if it just gets a touch chilly in the office! It is now showing signs of becoming faded and will need to be relegated to casual wear only soon, as the discrepancy between the black of the cardigan and the black of my skirt is now showing. But for a price of £12.99, I think it's an absolute bargain for how well it has lasted.
If you are looking for a cardigan for warmth, then I wouldn't recommend this one as it is quite thin and definitely a summer product. But for other purposes, I would definitely recommend it.
I very rarely shop in New Look mainly because I generally forget about the shop as it is not near any other shops I go in frequently. But I wanted one of the longer, open cardigans that everyone seemed to be wearing as they seemed to look good and be quite versatile and my friend recommended that I try New Look.
The cardigans are actually called 'boyfriend cardigans' and I paid just £12.99 for mine from my local New Look store although they can also be purchased from the website www.newlook.co.uk. I opted to buy the cardigan in Black so it went with more of my outfits but they are available in various other colours.
The cardigan's is designed to be loose fitting and open at the front with a large pocket at either side. I am 5ft3 in height and my cardigan comes to just under my bottom which is great if you are wearing leggings and are a little conscious.
The cardigans are lovely and soft to the touch and are fairly thin which makes them nice just to throw over a vest top to keep your arms warm when there is a slight chill in the air. The material is made from 96% Viscose and 4% Elastane. They can be machine washed on 40 degrees and mine has so far washed perfectly with no colour loss or shrinkage.
I really do love this cardigan and have had so much wear out of it. I will generally wear my cardigan with a vest top and jeans or leggings. It has been great for the summer when it is too hot to wear a jacket but you want something to act as a cover up for if the weather changes or if like me you work in an office that is obsessed with having the air conditioning on full blast even on cooler days. You can even dress this cardigan up with a sparkly top underneath and some heels.
Overall I have been very impressed with this cardigan it is good quality, very versatile and comfortable to wear as well as being excellent value.

New Look Boyfriend cardigan
I never really shopped in New Look until I fell pregnant and their range of maternity clothes was absolutely one of the best around. And since then (as thankfully I've not been pregnant for a while) there are a few items that I buy time and time again from New Look, including the New Look Boyfriend cardigan.
So why is it called a boyfriend cardigan? Because they are loose fitting and not at all tailored, they are the perfect cardigan to slouch around in, to wear with jeans or on occasion to dress up.
In fact I actually own four different New Look Boyfriend cardigan's in various colours (black, hot pink, deep purple and white). The cardigans are really a simple and plain design with lovely large deep pockets, which are more for display than use. The cardigan's are lovely and soft and comfy, and I have found that you can either dress them up or wear them around the house, I have even been using one of my New Look Boyfriend cardigan's as a makeshift dressing gown in the nicer weather.
The cardigan's are also a nice length and on my 5 foot 4 frame they easily sit quite far down my bum. I have also found the sizing to be quite standard if just ever so slightly on the larger size. If you want to try one of the cardigan's for yourself you can either buy them in store or online for around £13, which I personally think is a great price considering how much use I have had from mine. I will certainly be buying more of the Boyfriend cardigan's from New Look in the future.
The cardigan's are not heavy, but I find that I wear mine all year round. They are made from 96% Viscose and 4% Elastane, so they are lovely and soft with quite a smooth texture. I really hope that New Look doesn't stop making the boyfriend style cardigan because I do really like them, they are just a no fuss simple cardigan that comes in a good range of colours. I have found mine to be quite hard wearing but my black cardigan that I have had for over six months now has some small holes in the sleeve. But it has been an extremely well worn and washed cardigan in those six months.
In my opinion the New Looks Boyfriend Cardigan is a good wardrobe basic - four out of five stars. And comes highly recommended from me.
I have owned this cardigan in black since I can't remember when. I bought one when I was 14 or 15 and must have replaced it 3 or 4 times since then because I don't think I could live without it.
=Style and fit=
The cardigan is long-line and comes down past my hips. It's not tight-fitting, but it is a slim fit (as in it doesn't flare out anywhere).
The cardigan has two pockets on either side, but if you put anything heavy in them, they droop and look a bit silly. They're more for decoration or maybe something light like a tissue or pen. There are no buttons or zips on the cardigan - it's open. The sleeves are full length.
This cardigan looks great with almost anything - jeans, leggings, skirts or shorts, although I've found it doesn't look great with anything other than A-line or tube skirts - anything 'flowy' doesn't really work due to the long straight shape of this cardigan. It comes in a variety of colours that changes seasonally, but I own it in black because it goes with everything.
It folds up very small so it's perfect to put in your bag on a night out or just out and about. The lightweight material does mean it's not particularly warm. Good if you just want something to cover your shoulders on a summer evening, but not really a winter cardigan unless you layer it with long-sleeves and a big coat!
=Price and Quality=
The cardigan costs £12.99 from New Look and is available online (as Drop pocket boyfriend cardigan) and in most stores.
The quality is less than what you pay for in my opinion. Like I say I have had to rebuy this a few times because they get holes in and seams come loose. The lightweight jersey material means it's not really possible to sew up holes. I do wear them a lot though so they're pretty high-duty.
I was impressed, however, that it doesn't become 'bobbly' after a lot of washes like a lot of clothes.
Overall I love this cardigan and while I am very happy with it, I think it is a little expensive for the quality. Nonetheless I will continue to buy them whenever my one breaks because it is so versatile and a definite wardrobe essential for me.
4/5 because the quality does let it down one star.
A cardigan is perfect for throwing on last minute or to take with you if you are worried about getting chilly later in the day (likely with our british weather!) and this new look cardigan has been an absolute lifesaver.
I bought this one in black, since it is an easy colour to match with everything. It retailed at £12.99 but sometimes you can get it on offer at certain times of the year for around the £10 mark.
It is 100% Polyester so it doesn't feel particularly luxurious or expensive. It comes in a variety of different colours to take you through all the seasons of the year. The cardigan in length on me comes just on my bottom. However with washing this has shrunk slightly (maybe it was me not taking care of it being a daft student trying to figure out washing machines) and now it is just at my hips. For me this is a perfect length as I am a pear shape and anything that hits me just above my hips makes me look wider. This is perfect for a casual look.
It has two pockets either side and no way of fastening. The pockets are only really helpful to put your hands in. I wouldn't put anything in them as they do not feel secure and things could easily fall out. However they are a nice feature and give the cardigan some shape.
This product however being so thin and flimsy is a nightmare to iron.
It isn't the type of product that is going to keep you warm in the winter as it isn't that thick. It is simply a great extra to an outfit to give you that extra layer/coverage. Also as it is thin the colours aren't as prominent if you are wearing a bright/contrasting colour underneath. However as it is so thin it can just be popped into a handbag as it can get itself into a small space, so it can be easily transported with you wherever you go.
I have had mine 2 years now and as the material is quite stretchy, it hasn't got any holes in it yet! The only wear and tear it has had is that the stitching is starting to come a little undone.
In conclusion, a brilliant wardrobe statement and I couldn't live without it!
I'm a big fan of being warm, aren't we all to be honest - and in this country you can never be too careful because it might look nice and warm outside but you might find 10 minutes out the door and you're absolutely frozen because the sun has taken a holiday. So I find it's always beneficial to have a cardigan in my car or when I'm carrying a bigger bag, because I always need one - even if it's just for 10 minutes in a day you'll normally spot me wearing one of these cardigans even if it's not a New Look version it will be something similar because I've got a fair few in my wardrobe at the minute, even though I've had one walk away and leave me!
~*~ New Look ~*~
New Look is a high street store that sells women's clothing, shoes, underwear and party dresses. It also sells men's items in bigger stores and online - and in most stores you get some young girls fashion too, plus size clothing and maternity clothing. New Look also have some designer brands on the website, and in store, there are also companies like AX Paris in store and available online. It is all however available online, for delivery that you can pick up in store, to your house, next day delivery and some international delivery. All round a store that provides what you might need - predominantly a younger persons store, but even my mum at 45 uses the basics they offer like cardigans and t-shirts from the shop even though she complains the shop is for young people!
~*~ Boyfriend Drop Cardigan ~*~
~*~ When would I wear it? ~*~
The first time I saw one of these was a good couple of years ago, and I can't think for the life of me why I bought it to be honest I think I just happened to be in New Look doing a bit of shopping, probably window shopping knowing me, and they must have been on offer for me to pick one up. Since then I've been in love with this style of cardigan for the times of the year you don't feel the need to wrap up really tightly in huge jumpers and thick hoodies. So normally I'd start wearing one of these about the beginning of March and wear it through until about September and then dig out the thicker jumpers and get warmer again. The majority of the time I wear this is around the house, or when it's a little chilly outdoors but I'm just nipping to the supermarket or local shop - even just in the car when I'm going somewhere. It's quite a versatile cardigan so it can literally be worn anywhere, it looks great really casual with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, or a denim mini - which I did the other day and the cardigan was longer than my skirt but that just shows how long the cardigan actually is. I've also worn it on a night out before with a dress, mainly because it was a bit cold and I was designated driver so couldn't use alcohol to keep me warm, but no one really thought it wasn't part of my outfit because it's that versatile you can wear it anytime. My mum actually has one in black for work, it can be dressed up to be smart with some black trousers and a shirt - so they can be worn in pretty much any situation so for the price you'll get a lot of wear out of it!
~*~ Cut and Style ~*~
This cardigan is quite a long cardigan compared to a lot of those out there; a few weeks ago I was looking for a cardigan similar to these because my local New Look was out of stock of any in my size (didn't realise a 12 was so popular,) so I was looking round other stores in my area and all the other cardigans I tried were really short up the back. This cardigan on me at nearly 5'10, sits over my bottom, and on my mum is on the back of her thighs so you'll not need to worry about exposing your back which is always my main concern because I so easily get cold in my back which gives me no end of backache so I always go for a longer cardigan and New Look does this perfectly for me. The sleeves are full length, well they are on my mum, I've got longer arms than the average apparently and the bottom of the sleeve sits just before my wrist but I do often pull them down further so they go over my fingers to keep my hands warm - but the majority of the time they are slightly rolled up anyway so I always have a little bit of my arm exposed which is fine for me because I don't expect this cardigan to be one that keeps me really warm anyway just to take the chill off. This cardigan I always thought was a bit weird because the seam that runs down the collar, goes down the sides of the cardigan and when you get to the large pockets on the bottom of the cardigan the seam seems to turn inside out so you've got a bit of a seam that that looks a bit different to the rest of the cardigan. Majority of the time I don't notice it so it doesn't really bother me, but for someone who pays a lot of attention to their clothing they might not like it - but to be honest it's a seam that goes down into a pocket and it's not a different colour to the rest of the cardigan so I'm happy. Purely because this is a lose fitting cardigan, it doesn't come together at all unless you pull it across your body and hold it there with a pin or a belt, so don't expect it to be a ridiculously warm cardigan. It literally just drops down your side, so it's not overly figure hugging, but it's enough to give you a covering if there is a light breeze. It does seem to be a flattering cut on most body shapes though, as both myself and my mum wear ours very frequently and she's a very different shape to me - so they really are appropriate for everyone no matter your shape size or occasion.
~*~ Washing ~*~
I pop this cardigan in the wash with the rest of my coloured clothes into a normal wash cycle at thirty degrees and it washes brilliantly. It suggests to wash at 40 on the tag, but since most of our washing apart from my uniforms go through at 30 I wasn't about to make a separate wash for the sake of one cardigan. I've found that it takes a good couple of months of washing once or twice a week before I've noticed any bobbles appear and even those few seem to be on the underarm and no one notices those anyway. I've never had a cardigan shrink either, which means all my cardigans are the same size as I bought them pretty much which really does give me a lot of faith in the quality of these cardigans. Now we don't have a tumble drier in my house so not sure if that would make these cardigans shrink - but popping it out on the line on a warm breezy day I can say it only takes a matter of hours for it to dry it's a relatively thin cardigan so it doesn't take long to dry at all.
~*~ How long will it last me? ~*~
I tend to have my cardigans for at least a year before I even think of getting rid of them, even then they are still in really good condition so the past year or so I'm still on the same cardigans - only reason I wanted to buy another recently was because I needed a particular colour for an outfit. They will happily last you a year if not two depending on how often you wear them, I've never found a hole in any of my cardigans despite them getting a huge amount of wear during the year, never had a seam come lose or anything drop off any of them. So I'd happily say you'll find you can get away with only buying one a year - and considering they are only a little over £12 you're getting a real bargain of a cardigan really, and one I'd highly recommend regardless of the occasion you're using it for.
~*~ Colour Availability ~*~
At the moment the colours that are available are
Pale Blue Marl,
The colours used to be a lot better; with pinks and reds I had a nice navy blue one and a sky blue one at one point. My current favourite is my purple one, I've had it a while but hadn't really worn it until my other half managed to lose my dark blue one in his move from Norfolk to Scotland, so the purple one is getting some good wear now - bring back the nice coloured cardigans New Look please else I'll be looking elsewhere!
~*~ Price and Availability ~*~
These cardigans are available in New Look stores, in the high street and online for £12.99 new, there is occasionally offers on these cardigans where they drop them down to less than £10 but that doesn't happen very often. To be honest they're not an expensive cardigan to start with so they're worth buying at £12.99 but if you can get it cheaper - then why wouldn't you!
I am a cardy and jeans kinda girl. Anything that is comfortable and not too clingy is right up my street. If you were to take a peek in my wardrobe you would probably find 50 plus cardigans in a wide range of colours. I usually wear cardigans rather than jumpers as they are easy to remove, without messing up your hair, you can have them open if you are too hot, whilst still keeping your arms warm and you can wear a nice top underneath which can still be seen when the cardigan is open. I have this particular cardigan in three different colours: black, navy blue and grey. I purchased mine around Christmas time from £12.99 from New Look.
I think the quality of this cardigan is good, I have worn mine too death and they are still in very good condition. I have found some cardigans to start getting bobbly after only a handful of washes but this one is still bobble free. Also the colour has not faded at all and I have probably washed this at least 30 times. It has kept it shape very well unlike other cardigans I have had that have either shrunk or stretched in the wash. Once this cardigan has been washed you will need to iron it unfortunately. Normally I just hang up my clothes or fold them, but this cardigan can look very creased if not ironed. There are two pockets at the front, I do not put anything too heavy in them as they don't seem to be very strong and are likely to stretch easily.
The material is 96% Viscose, 4% Elastane and is comfortable on the skin. The cardigan is quite thin and I would say perfect for Spring and Summer. When I wore mine in the winter I always made sure I was wearing a coat as if I only had the cardigan on alone then it would be too chilly. It is very plain with no pattern on it apart from a boarder/rim that runs around the neck and the front of the cardigan.
This cardigan hangs very nicely and sits just below your hips. It looks great paired with jeans and is long enough to wear with legging. I normally wear a plain vest top under my cardigan which looks nice. The reason I purchased this cardigan was so I could wear it to work but it is perfect for any casual look. I also use it a lot on a nights out and when I just need something to cover my arms. I hate carrying around a jacket and this squeezes into my hand bag perfectly once I have finished using it.
This is a great, stylish cardigan which doesn't break the bank. It fits really well and I love it so much I bought three of them. I love New look clothes especially their jeans and cardigans. I find their clothes to be reasonably priced and good quality. I would recommend this cardigan as it is one of my favourites and it comes in a wide range of sizes and colours. I think the only way they could improve this cardigan is if they made it a little thicker and the pockets stronger.
