As spring is slowly on its way I am generally finding it too warm to wear a thick jumper during the day time and yet not warm enough to get away with a light top. Therefore I went on the hunt last weekend for something in between that could keep my arms and body warm without being too bulky. New Look are a store that I often look in as I find their clothes incredibly good value for money and once there I came across these drop pocket boyfriend cardigans. These cardigans are designed to be quite long in length with long sleeves and I was confident that they looked smart enough to wear to work as well as casually during the weekend. I purchased one of these cardigans in the stone colour way although there were quite a variety of colours to choose from in my local store including pink, white and black. My cardigan drops just below my hips meaning that I can wear it with leggings and has a stretchy feel which I great over my growing bump. The front of my cardigan has a slightly ribbed detail around the front opening which gives a nice finish in my opinion and has one pocket either side which I like to keep my hands warm in as I walk. This cardigan does not have any fastenings on the front however I find that the pockets mean that I can pull the two sides together as I walk on occasions when I do feel a little chilly. The composition of this cardigan is 96% viscose and 4% elastane and this means that it has a very soft and stretchy feel which I find light and comfortable on my skin. Although I am pregnant I purchased one of these cardigans in my usual size ten and find this a perfect fit with the added stretch meaning that I do not have to worry about it loosing its shape. I would guess that the idea of these cardigans is to layer them underneath jackets however I like to wear mine on its own over a simple top. I like the look of this cardigan and find that it keeps me warm in the office whilst looking smart. Plus I find this cardigan incredibly comfortable and so will be looking to buy another one in the near future. In terms of washing this cardigan should be put in a cool wash and I have done this once with the stretchy fabric meaning that I didn't need to iron it. I paid £12.99 for this cardigan in my local New Look store and consider this very good value for money particularly considering the amount of wear I think I will get out of it. As a result I would recommend this cardigan as a wardrobe staple and will be looking to add another one to my wardrobe in a different colour. As a result of this review this cardigan scores a great five stars from me. I hope this review has been of some help and thanks for reading! x
New Look Boyfriend deep pocket cardigan I never really shopped in New Look until I fell pregnant and their range of maternity clothes was absolutely one of the best around. And since then (as thankfully I've not been pregnant for a while) there are a few items that I buy time and time again from New Look, including the New Look Boyfriend cardigans. The cardigan's are classified as a boyfriend fit because they are loose fitting and not at all tailored, they are the perfect cardigan to slouch around in, to wear with jeans or on occasion to dress up. The cardigans also don't have any buttons or zips, so they are just loose hanging and come with a deep pocket design at the corners. In fact I actually own at least four different New Look Boyfriend cardigan's in various colours (black, hot pink, deep purple and white). The cardigans are a really simple and plain design with lovely large deep pockets, which are more for display than use. The cardigan's are lovely and soft and comfy, and I have found that you can either dress them up or wear them around the house, I have even been using one of my New Look Boyfriend cardigan's as a makeshift dressing gown in the nicer weather. You can use the lovely deep pockets but because of the light weight nature of the material it does deform the overall look of the cardigan. In my opinion, the cardigan's tend to be a nice length, and on my 5 foot 4 frame they easily sit quite far down my bum. I have also found the sizing to be quite standard if just ever so slightly on the larger size. If you want to try one of the cardigan's for yourself you can either buy them in store or online for around £13, which I personally think is a great price considering how much use I have had from mine. I will certainly be buying more of the Boyfriend cardigan's from New Look in the future. The cardigan's are not heavy, but I find that I wear mine all year round. They are made from 96% Viscose and 4% Elastane, so they are lovely and soft with quite a smooth texture. I really hope that New Look doesn't stop making the boyfriend style cardigan because I do really like them, they are just a no fuss simple cardigan that comes in a good range of colours. I have found mine to be quite hard wearing but my black cardigan that I have had for over six months now has some small holes in the sleeve. But it has been an extremely well worn and washed cardigan in those six months. In my opinion the New Looks Boyfriend Cardigan is a good wardrobe basic - four out of five stars. And comes highly recommended from me.
One of my favourite basic pieces in my wardrobe is the New Look boyfriend drop pocket cardigan in black which I purchased over a year ago from New Look. And even though I got mine over a year ago New Look still stock this style of cardigan and it is available in a few more colours than just black. I have been very happy with mine. This open fronted cardigan isn't one you would choose if you are after a comfy snugly cardigan for winter but one to wear with a vest top or t-shirt or even a day dress during the spring or autumn months. As it doesn't fasten and hangs nicely by your sides it allows for the underneath garment to be seen. It is a full length sleeve on the cardigan and the length of sleeve is very generous. As I am quite a petite person at 5 foot 3 inches the sleeves are a little long but look fine with a slight scrunch. The cardigan is off a decent length covering well past my waist and the lose pockets hang down but stay close to you. Not really pockets to keep anything in apart from maybe a small tissue but never the less they look good. The cardigan is made from 100 percent polyester and is quite thin but as I use it as just a cover for my arms I don't expect or want anything thicker. It feels soft enough to the skin and is comfortable to wear. The cardigan washes well in a normal general wash. After a year's worth of wear the colour has faded slightly and a hole has begun to appear at the bottom of the sleeve but I must say I do wear it a lot when the weather is a little on the cool side. Obviously I haven't had to wear it quite as often recently which is nice with our sunny July and warm August. But for something that lasts that long is great in my eyes. Personally as they still stock this style I think I will find myself replacing it for a newer version soon and may even treat myself as well as getting a black I may get a lighter coloured one too. The boyfriend cardigan is available in the classic black like I have and love but is available in grey, stone and navy blue too. Until recently I noticed my local store had it in white too but as the shop seasons change quicker than our seasons I guess white will probably out. The cardigan is priced at £12.99 which I think is a good fair price especially since it has lasted me so long. This cardigan has become an essential piece of clothing for me and I love wearing it. It allows me to wear my nice strappy tops even when the weather isn't being it's nicest. My sister swears by them and has a few of the colours in her wardrobe. It is a comfortable piece that has a tightish fit too it in the sleeves but flows downwards nicely.
I have always been self conscious of my arms but since gaining weight during my pregnancy with Kai I simply refuse to wear anything that shows my arms, even around the house when I'm on my own in case anybody sees me through the window. I bought these cardigans last year during the summer because they were lightweight enough to wear over a vest or t shirt and not look stupid in the warm weather. I have three of them all in different colours and they were about £12 each which for a nice cardigan is a really good price. The cardigan comes in a lot of different colours. I have one pink one, one red one and one black one. The black one I decided to buy for when I go back to work as it is smart enough to wear over a plain white top or blouse. The pink one I bought because it is a nice bright summery colour and the red one is a nice shade to wear either during the summer or pretty much any time of year. The design of these cardigans is obviously quite basic, but they're very fashionable and look nice & trendy. They are versatile and will suit any age group too. The cardigan is made from a thin material making it ideal for summer, and the style is really nice. Even though it is a summery cardigan, it can be layered in the winter. The cardigan is made from a silky soft material (95% polyester and 5% elastane) which has a slight stretch to it. Because of this I thought it might lose its shape after a couple of washes, but it hasn't and after nearly a year of wearing these cardigans often they are all still in good condition minus a little bobbling and they have faded in colour very, very slightly - they still look nice though and not tatty or anything. The length of the cardigan is just right, I am only 5 foot 2 though so it is longer on me than it would be someone taller obviously! It is a boyfriend cardi though which means that it is designed to be longer and more relaxed fitting. It comes right past my bum so I can wear it with leggings without worrying my bum is on show, and it covers up the tops of my legs which makes me feel a lot less self conscious about my weight gain. The cardigan doesn't have any buttons, which is the only disadvantage I can think of. I am self conscious of my belly so not being able to do the front up is a bit of a nightmare and I often find myself pulling it together to try and hide my belly! The way it falls is nice though and the chunky pockets kind of take the attention away from my jelly belly I think. It is easy to style this cardigan, I will normally wear it with a vest and leggings if the weather is warm and it can't really be dressed up much to be honest. The sizes available are 6 to 18 and I'd definitely recommend getting your usual size because the fit is a bit loose so if you get a size too big it might look too oversized and be unflattering. All in all I reccomend these boyfriend cardigans.
I had a similar cardigan from New Look before, and so I knew exactly what I was looking for when I went shopping. There are several similar style cardigans available all with subtle differences in the details. I chose this Drop Pocket Boyfriend style, which can be bought from the high street stores, or online at www.newlook.com for just £12.99. Product description: "Slouchy black boyfriend cardigan, styled with a relaxed cut, drop pockets and full length sleeves." This cardigan is available in several colour options including: Black, White, Dark Green, Navy, Magenta. I chose black as I wanted something that I can wear with everything and it's a practical and versatile colour. The sizes range from 6 - 18. The cardigan is cut well and fitted nicely to the body. The front panels are left open with no buttons or fastenings which give more of a casual look. The sleeves are full length and being a tall girl with long limbs, I am really pleased that the sleeves fit well and cover right down over my wrists. The cardigan comes down to hip level and features large slanted pockets at the bottom edges of the front panels. The pockets are not overly functional as anything heavy will weigh them down and stretch the front of the cardigan, but I always carry a bag with me to keep stuff in so it's not really a problem that I experience. Seeing as the cardigan is open fronted, it does not provide a great deal of coverage. This is quite nice as you can still show a pretty blouse or printed vest but it adds some warmth and keeps your arms covered. I think it is best suited to the warmer summer months, although I have been wearing it through winter as it works well with plenty of layers. The fabric is made up of 96% Viscose, 4% Elastane and it feels very stretchy. The fabric is soft and fits really well, with the added stretch making it really comfortable. The cardigan is very lightweight as the fabric is such a fine knit. I think it has a lovely look to it for a casual item, and can be added to dressier pieces to tone them down for day wear. The cardigan is machine washable and I put this in with my usual eco wash cycle on 30 degrees. It has worn well with no obvious marks or deterioration of the fabric, which is a relief as sometimes nice soft materials like this can be prone to bobbling. You can choose to iron this on a cool setting, but I never do so - mainly because I'm lazy! - but also because the creases just fall straight out of it when worn. It's very convenient and this saves time and energy so you don't have to do excess laundry tasks. All in all, this is a good basic cardigan that is perfect for layering. It doesn't spend a lot of time in my wardrobe as I wear it so frequently! This cardigan is really good value for money and I am really pleased with my purchase, I would happily buy this again when mine eventually wears out.
Another year, another summer, another few months of melting in the office and getting just a little bit chilly making my wine filled evenings last too late into the night.... Not a problem, I have all my summer clothes stored ready for this year. I'll just get those out and everything will be fine. Well. Not quite. I think I should be pleased but it's an expensive moment when you realise you are a dress size smaller than this time last year and nothing fits. Cue shopping spree. I went in with a mission, a select list of exactly what I needed. And, through sheer self discipline (and a card limit) I managed to get everything - Apart from a cardi that fit well. Looking around the high street I noticed this was proving to be a little bit difficult trying to find something to fit that was light enough to not make me feel like I'm wearing a jumper in summer but that would cover my arms and keep the chill off later into the evening. New look are currently stocking these cardigans in most shops and I believe you can still purchase them online at, what I feel, is a reasonable price of £12.99. The cardigan itself is a "boyfriend" style cardi which means that it hangs a little looser around the body and has a really nice detail at the inside seam in the form of pockets. The product is made of 3% viscose and 97% acrylic but it has a soft cotton feel and I haven't found it make me sweaty like some acrylic materials can. The sleeves are nice and shapely and quite well fitted - I found them not to be too tight like some other styles are. The style is well cut and a great shape across the front so it hangs properly when either puled across the chest or hanging lose (A bonus in my book) So far as I know these come in a size 8-18 but they may well have a further range of sizes (You may have to search online or ask in store about this) I went for a size 10 as I have found the cardigan to be quite stretchy. A note to sizing, if you are ordering online they do give a little so you should be ok (for a tight look) going for a smaller size (I can go from an 8 for stretchy to a 12 for fitted so plonked for a 10 - in English sizes of course) New Look currently stock this style in 7 different colours, I went for a stone as it was what I was looking for but I know, in my local store at least, they had a black, white and a pink/orange colour. The quality of the product is sound. As I make a lot of my own clothes I can be quite critical of how something is made, but New Look seem to not disappoint - Even though this is a really good price for a cardi they have ensured that the seams are well made and that the construction on the piece is of quite a high standard. Washing wise I have been washing this with my lights on 30 with an anti crease, thus far it has washed well, kept it's shape, size and colour and, as long as I have hung it does not crease too much. Likewise I have found when wearing it there isn't too much change in the shape/creases so well recommended if you are likely to be wearing this a whole day. I would recommend this cardi to anyone looking for a light summer cover up, if you need a winter warmer to protect you from an Arctic wind then you wont find it hear but other than that this is a good quality, well made item that, I personally think, is great value for money.
I have two of these cardigans from New Look as I find them very versatile. I have one in Charcoal and one in black. I must say that I do tend to wear the charcoal one more as it softens outfits somewhat. These cardigans have full length sleeves and large dropped pockets, there is no zip nor buttons on this cardigan meaning that should it be windy at all outside you will find your cardi flapping around! The material of these is so soft and quite slinky. When wet they feel like cardboard and go increasingly stiff but upon drying them they are once again perfect. I like wearing this cardigan with anything, it looks great over a vest and leggings and also with jeans. It is also versatile enough to wear with a dress or playsuit. The retail price for these is £12.99 and they come in a choice of seven colours ~ *Black *Charcoal *Navy *Brick *Corn Yellow *Magenta *Mink The sizes range from 8 - 16 but I think they are also available in the inspire range. Because of the great choice of colours and the cheap price these could become a staple part of a womans wardrobe. They are very comfortable and although thin they do keep you warm. I will throw mine on in the house if I feel a little chilly and it doesn't feel like I am wearing a jacket indoors.
Cardigans...they come in handy don't they? The go with anything and can be casual or smart. I bought this cardigan from New Look for a price of £12.99 although I think that they are on offer at the moment. The cardigan is white and has full sleeves. It is quite long which is good, especially for work as it means that when you sit down in covers you so that your back doesn't show, although bear in mind, it does have a tendency to crease at times when you sit on it which is a shame. I personally wear mine for both work in an office and for 'outside of work'. I like the fact that it is quite versatile and goes with anything; black trousers, jeans etc. My cardigan is white (I also have the other colours, black, blue etc). It is a 'clean' kind of bright white. The fact that it is white also means that it will go with every colour, and so unlike my blue one, I don't have to worry that it will clash with something else I am wearing. The cardigan is made from cotton and is very thin. It is very cool to wear which means that it is great to wear on hot summer days. It is also great to wear on cooler summer nights, as it is light, yet will keep you warm too. There are some pockets on the sides of this cardigan although I think that they are for 'show' rather than to be used as actual pockets. They are quite 'loose' kind of pockets and because the cardigan 'swings' when you are walking, so does the contents of the pocket, as I found when I put my phone in there and it fell out. The pockets are ok for light things such as tissues though. I would definetely recommend this caradigan. It's great, goes with anything and a great price too. Thanks for reading! July 2011 xd-o-n-z-x
