“ Brand: New Look / Type: Gilet „
I bought this for myself after Christmas. My in-laws (like every year) had been very generous and bought us all lots of presents. One of mine was a onesie which didn't fit and as I didn't have a receipt New Look offered me a credit note. So this is what I decided to spend it on.
~~ Appearance ~~
I tend to refer to my gilet as a body warmer. It is navy blue with a white chunky zip fastener and the hood has a grey lining. The materials are listed on the label as follows: Shell, Padding and Lining1- 100% Polyester and Lining2 - 67% Polyester and 33% Cotton. It must have been quite popular in my local New Look as the sizes tended to be very small (size 8) and then bigger sizes (size 18) and not a lot in between. When I saw a 12 I grabbed it, I do usually tend to wear a size 10 from New Look but thought in this instance it wouldn't matter if it was slightly bigger as I could wear a sweatshirt underneath. It has a hood and two pockets on the front.
The body warmer is easy and comfortable to wear. I have found it very practical and keep mine in the porch with the rest of the coats. I tend to wear mine over a jumper to wear on the march to preschool to pick my eldest daughter up. I usually live in skinny jeans and boots with plain coloured tops so this item fits well in my wardrobe! It is very warm and I am pleased with the quality of this. I have washed it a few times and it still looks good and hasn't faded at all.
The item code on the label is 1142/2641868/41.
~~ Price and Availability ~~
I paid £19.99 For this just after Christmas and it is now in the sale for £12. At the time of purchase, there were black ones too but I am not sure if these are still available.
~~ Overall ~~
Overall I am very pleased with this. It looks and feels good and is very practical. I am very tempted to see if I can buy another one in the sale, possibly a different colour. Great price and it doesn't look 'cheap' especially when standing next to some of the other parents in the playground wearing their branded expensive versions!
Thanks for reading.
I received this gilet from my in-laws as a Christmas present. They know how much I love lounging round in comfortable clothing, and am rarely dressed in anything other than hoodies and jumpers, so it was a very thoughtful gift and I'm happy for them to keep adding to my collection of warm clothing each year. It is from New Look, and is available in different colour combinations. Mine is navy, with a lovely maroon coloured lining and the inside of the hood is also maroon which is a nice contrast without being either girly or tomboy-like.
If I'm honest, I've never really bothered with gilets before, or "bodywarmers" as I prefer to call them. I think this is because of the lack of arms - there has never been situation when I've been scanning my wardrobe and thought "I need to be warm today, but I'd like my arms to stay cold". That said, I have been wearing this over polo neck jumpers or long sleeve tops, and it gives that extra boost of warmth without leaving my arms feeling cold.
The gilet is reasonably padded, but without being too bulky. This means I can wear it without feeling frumpy, which is another reason I've tended to avoid these....they can be rather unflattering. This one is thick enough to keep you warm, but thin enough to fit under a bigger coat if you so wish. It also means your arms have freedom of movement, which is useful when driving.
The one I received as a gift is a size 14, which as it happens is the perfect size despite being a size larger than what I usually wear. I am going to give my in-laws the benefit of the doubt that they were being considerate by going a size larger, rather than trying to offend me! I would definitely recommend going a size up (at least), because even when I wear this with thinner long-sleeved tops underneath, it's still only just managed to zip up. Either that or I've eaten too many mince pies over Christmas.....
There are pockets on both sides of this bodywarmer, which are angled to make it easy to slot your hands in. I frequently use these for keeping my hands warm, because if you carry anything other than a tissue in the pockets, it starts to look bulky. The pockets have a stud fastening, but are quite deep, so they should keep a mobile safe but personally I wouldn't chance it as I'm very particular about where I keep my mobile. If it's not zipped or strapped in, it's not safe!
I've washed it a couple of times at 40 degrees, and it washes well and dries quickly. The material is a bit annoying in that it picks up a lot of fluff and cat hair, although obviously if you don't have a cat this won't be an issue. I think it looks really nice with jeans, and the colour combination I have is the one I would have chosen for myself. I was very happy to receive this gift, which I have seen on the New Look website retailing at £19.99.
