~*~ The Purchase ~*~
This is a recent impulse buy of mine and I bought it mainly because it was cheap, if I'm honest! I just kind of had a glance at it and stuck it in my shopping basket, lol.
~*~ Price ~*~
I managed to get this vest for a little less than the recommended retail price of £9.00 - I paid £5.00, which I thought was a bargain but it really isn't. At least I didn't pay the full price though!
~*~ Colours & Sizes ~*~
The top is available in two colours. Black with white skulls and white with black skulls. I decided to get the white one as the black one was a little too gothy for me. Sizes available are UK6-18 and if you do decide to buy it then I would recommend getting a size smaller than your usual size.
~*~ Design & My Opinion ~*~
Okay, so at first glance I assumed this was a nice basic vest top with a slogan on the front. But when I got it home and had a proper look at it I realised that the bottom of it is very flared to create a drapey kind of look. This is when I started to get a little worried - I hate flared tops as most of them make my stomach and hips look enormous!
Nevertheless I tried it on and absolutely hated it. It really must be one of the most unflattering tops I've ever bought, including all of the flare tops that I've ever had! Not only does it make me look pregnant but the neckline is too low so I had to keep pulling my top up when I was wearing it! As for the arm holes.. well, they're just ridiculous.
Don't get me wrong, I've been a fan of draped, open arm holes ever since they came into fashion but these are way too wide so a bandeau is a must have when wearing this, but because of the open arm holes showing a little of my back and the ridiculously low scoop neck, a bandeau doesn't look right at all.
The top also bunches up in the middle - unflattering and embarrassing!! The thick straps of the vest don't sit on my shoulders right either and kept falling down and getting scrunched up which was incredibly annoying! I'm not sure if its supposed to be oversized but it is enormous. I decided to get my usual size eight and it could easily fit a size ten, if not twelve!
It is basically unwearable. As for the design, it's okay but kind of childish. Rather than the skulls being sketched on and looking realistic it looks more like a cartoon. I'm going to be giving this top to charity and I don't recommend it!
~*~ Other Info ~*~
The top is made from 95% viscose and 5% elastase, the material is very thin and a black bra or a coloured bandeau is easily visible through the material. I've only washed this once at the recommended 30 degrees and it washed well with no fading or bobbling.
~*~ Overall ~*~
One word to sum this top up would be unflattering. I don't recommend it and I give it one out of five stars.
This white skull vest top is from New looks "rebel" range, This is a range filled with skulls and studs. This is an alternate style of clothing in high street shops, which they have all been doing this type of design. This vest itself retails at just £9.99 making it a budget yet nice top. New look have been doing some budget tops a lot recently so I've made it my mission to buy at least one a week so I have more casual clothing I can wear and for £9.99 that is pretty cheap.
The vest is currently still for sale in store and online, the sizes start at 6 and work their way up to 18 so I saw in store when I purchased mine. This is a really simple vest top which is designed to be "over sized" so I thought it was a good idea to buy the size below me so it isn't as baggy because I feel that I look bad and unflattered in baggy clothing.
This sits nice and comfortably on my shoulders and the curved neckline sits nicely on my bust, because this isn't fitted it's over sized I expected this to move around on my bust but thankfully it stays in place. This is very flowy and allows plenty of room despite buying the size below me. The print on the front is quite cool, I like skulls so I saw this from across the shop when I went in.
Because I don't like over sized items I make a point of wearing this with something tight such as a high waisted skirt or my high waisted skinny jeans. The tops tags state you can wash this on a normal wash of 30/40 degrees. And for a handful of times this was fine. Until one day I put it on and thought that I had it on inside out because the print had completely faded.
My vest now looks like it was a slight print of the schools and that is it. The colour has stayed however but the whole design of this has disappeared. I am very disappointed with this because I have bought other tops at this price from new look and they have been fine but this one hasn't.
