Advantages: none

Disadvantages: slave labour, expensive, people are too scared to be individuals

Nike wear and other branded sports wear are in my opinion, for people who dont know how to be an individual. I dont mean to offend anyone, i am just expressing my opinion. I have read the many opinions on here so far about Nike etc being so wonderful, so this opinion is different. I have put my opinion into numbers. These are the reasons why i hate Nike and other branded sports wear!!!

1) Nike are always trying to promote a sporty and healthy lifestyle, when in fact the poor people who make their shoes etc, live in Asia and Latin America and have to live in extreme poverty and suffer stress and exhaustion from over-work! Why buy from this company when they are treating their workers so poorly and unfairly? This is slave labour and people who buy from them are making it worse

2) Nike don’t really need to do any advertising as they are getting free advertising. The people who buy the clothes are advertising themselves and that’s why more people are wearing them! So the more people who wear them, the more they become advertised!

3) The only reason why people wear Nike clothes is because they are afraid to be an individual. They will think they don’t look cool as it seems to be the fashion these days. They are scared that if they don’t wear the same clothing, then they will not be accepted. They think this sports wear is trendy and makes them feel more popular, when in fact they are the losers! The people you hang around with should accept you for who you are, not the clothes you wear, else they are not real friends at all!

4) Nike wear is so expensive. What is the point of paying an extra £50 or so for a Tee shirt which has got the Nike logo on, when you can buy a much more greater quality, longer lasting, comfier one for a quarter of the price

5) Look at all these people that wont wear fake Nike wear. Fake Nike wear is a lot cheaper than the real thing and at times go un-noticed. I brought my
brother a Nike cap when I went on holiday, as I knew that was the only thing he’d like, and just because it was fake, he wouldn’t wear it. I couldn’t even see any difference. But that just shows how trendy he is. Also I bet a lot of people in England are like that too.

6) I am not saying all people who buy Nike wear are bad, but most of them are. There is a lot in my home town, who wear these clothes, hang around in gangs and cause a lot of trouble and vandalism. The thing I have noticed is that these gangs always wear Nike. The whole of them. I have never seen one gang member wear jeans or anything different to the rest.

7) I remember when I was at school, I used to get teased because I was an individual and felt very happy wearing comfy jeans, skirts and dresses, and I still do. I mean what is the point of wearing uncomfy, very poorly made products just because it may make you trendy! They used to say to me people wouldn’t accept me for wearing those clothes and that I was supposed to wear branded sports wear then I’d have more friends. What a load of crap. It just proves my point about people thinking they have to wear these clothes to fit in. I never listened to those people. I didn’t have many friends, but I didn’t want to copy everyone else! I thought they were so pathetic at the time and still do – I mean they may even ask each other what colour socks they must wear for that day!

8) I know that some people wear branded sports wear for exercising such as running and tennis etc. I am not saying these people are bad for wearing them (though remember that the people who make them are suffering), I am just saying the gangs who wear this clothes and think they are popular etc need to grow up!

9) God didn’t put everyone on this earth to copy each other. He gave everyone their own free will, to do as they please. So why should these people be copying what their friends w
ear? They need to grow up and become an individual (if they know what one is), instead of looking like 10,000 triplets! They should go and get their own lives back, instead of someone elses!

10) There was even an incident in my hometown. There was this asylum family that took the city council to court because they would not give them extra money for Nike wear etc, even though they had home luxuries, which most poor people in England dont even have. What will it be like in the year 2005? Will babies be even screaming at their parents to get them Nike wear? Probally not - though i wouldnt be surprised if it did happen. Or maybe there will be more criminals because the parents of the non-individuals wont be able to afford their clothing.

I hope you have found my opinion interesting and that i have not offended anyone who is nice etc who wears these clothes. I just hope you can see it from mine and my boyfriends point of view. Thanks for reading!

Oh and if you would like to read about the slave labour that is going on, then go to www.google.co.uk and type in "Nike slave labour" and there are loads of pages with information.

And last but not least, i decided to add this comment from my boyfriend "That's very good baby. I would have added something like:
They have no self esteem and feel inferior. They want to look like everyone else
because they might think they don't have to face up to being an individual.
Plus, most sportswear looks like crap."

As a quote from Lemmy "Wearing sports clothing 10 sizes too big isn't cool, it's more like a thing the village retard would do"

Interesting op.
Don't agree with all of it. And totally disagree with some of it. But then again, I don't suppose you expected people to totally agree with you. Did you?

I wear Nike. In fact, there aren't many brands that haven't been through my wardrobe at some point.
However, I DO NOT have low self esteem. I DO NOT feel inferior. And I DO NOT follow the crowd when it comes to fashion.

If I like something, I buy it whether its in fashion or not. Whether it's branded ornot. It just so happens that I like branded clothes.

A question for you, if you had been wearing the most 'comfortablest' pair of jeans ever and then your realised that they were Nike .... Would you stop wearing them??

Ooh, the controversy! I can imagine some people rating this badly just because they don't agree with it.
I do agree however, its crazy how many people 'conform'. Quite sad really. etc.

I do feel that slave labour should be abbolished, large companys like this make enough money to pay their workers well. I dont think it is fair to say that all sports wear looks like crap though, but its your op!
very interesting
