A nice dress but just a little bit long for me.

I bought this dress a while ago from ASOS when it was in the sale. Having only seen it online I was a little unsure about fit and the hi-lo hemline. I thought given that it was reduced to £20 it was worth a shot and since ASOS deliver and return for free I didn't have much to lose.

The dress arrived pretty quickly and on taking it out of the package I immediately thought the colour was stunning. It is a very rich pinky red which has an almost burgundy look to it. Colours like this are perfect going into autumn and winter do I was thrilled with that aspect.

My initial impressions of the dress were that it was perhaps a little longer than I had anticipated. Obviously I hadn't taken into account the gorgeous 6ft model in the photo and my own 5ft3 stature. The from hemline dips just below my knees and the back one hits mid calf. Though this isn't a terrible cut I do think it further shortens my body and probably isn't the most flattering place to hit. I would far rather it was shorter and cut above my knee though if you are taller or perhaps a little older then it might be perfect.

I do really love the fit of the top half and the arms though. The dress has a classics scoop/skater neckline which I personally think is very flattering. I have rather ample assets on the upper half of my body so it is really important to find something that doesn't swamp me and that also doesn't reveal too much. This neckline is the perfect compromise. I like the a line style cut and the gathering of the skirt under the bust. This fabric then flows out into the skirt which is very forgiving for anyone like me who is conscious of their stomach.

I love the long arms as well. I actually really struggle to find things that have full length sleeves, even this time of year. I like them because I'm not really keen on coats or layering so if I can find one item that covers my arms and keeps me warm then it can be one whole outfit on its own. I also think it really helps to lengthen and skim your arms, and just generally give a very sleek and smooth appearance.

So basically I am in two minds about this dress. I think the cut and the soft stretchy fabric are great. I also love the colour and think find it an extremely wearable piece in my wardrobe. I am disappointed that the length is not more suitable for someone a little shorter than the average leggy model. If this were a little shorter then I'd be 100% happy with it but I guess you can't have everything!

Overall, for £20 I am pretty pleased with my purchase. It isn't exactly perfect but it'll do for winter and hopefully be something I can wear right into spring.
