Disclaimer □ I have little experience with Purple Label, and do not own any such garments. I am merely writing this to offer my humble opinion in a field with no such others. Also, I would be delighted if this pushed me a little closer to the £10 mark! □ Ralph Lauren Purple Label is the (male only, I think) up-market arm of the Lauren off-the-peg business; more towards their catwalk exclusivity than polo affordability. Ralph Lauren markets this as a “vision of modern luxury” and “sleek, sophisticated refinement”. This fall’s collection (runway.polo.com) is smart and urbane. I first came across it in a Ralph Lauren discount store in Bicester. Snuck away with the usual suits was a faint pinstriped type, bearing the small, purple insignia on its cuff. The suit was reduced to roughly £200 from over £400. I tried the jacket on, the comfortable but elegant fit was immediately apparent – this was an article of quality. I do regret not owning this particular steal though I cant imagine having wore the suit all that much as a 17 year old! I have noticed adverts for Purple Label in glossy magazines such as Esquire and the clothes look timeless and classy. Purple Label is certainly worth looking into for affordable high-end clothing, or that special, luxurious, last-a-lifetime piece.
