A great waterproof suit - just check the sizing!

My daughter would live outside if I let her, which is a good thing and since her Dad is very outdoorsy he has her outside in the garden with him whenever he can, digging, planting, sowing, and generally maintaining the vegetable patch. My daughter was given a waterproof all in one suit from Trespass when she was a year old and we have bought one for her ever since when she has outgrown her previous suit. The last suit that she had before her current one, was this one from Regatta, another all in one puddle suit, which retails on the likes of amazon for around £13, though size can affect the price.

Unless it is a very warm summer day, my daughter almost always has a waterproof puddle suit on when she out in the garden. The regatta suit (which is very like the Trespass one in my opinion) comes in a variety of colours, but we had selected the red at the time because we thought it would do another child in the future, boy or girl. These suits are easy to get one, as there is a zip down the front of the suit finishing at one foot. Children can simply slip the other foot into the other foot hole. There is elastic at both the feet holes and the wrists which is great as it stops the water from getting onto the clothes she is wearing underneath - although that said, she has always worn welly socks over the bottom of the suit and her welly boots, so there isn't a lot of chance for water to get in. I like the fact that there was also a hood attached to the suit, as it protected from the rain, but was also great on a windy day, although I found the hood to small to put over my daughter's head if she had a hat on. These suits are meant to be breathable as well, which is perfect for Springtime, when it isn't a scorcher but at the same time, a child could get warm in it. These suits also come with a reflector trim which I suppose is useful in the darker duskier evenings, but to me it isn't an essential.

A word of warning, I would say that I found these suits to be a little smaller than the Trespass suits, and my daughter moved on to the 2-3 Trespass suit which her grandparents bought for her, earlier than I had expected, so she probably didn't get as long out of this suit as I would have hoped, so if I go to purchase another of these suits in the future, which I would happily do, I would definitely go for the next size up. Otherwise, this is great for children who love jumping in puddles, getting dirty and messy and generally being outside.

      A fantastic puddle suit

      The suit

With the typical Scottish weather we often have short and showery summers. I believe it is still important for children to play outside, so we decided to get them some puddle suits for when the weather is a little miserable. A puddle suit is basically and all in one shower resistant onesie to keep little one dry while they are out and about. They are perfect for protecting your child from the elements, and also save a lot of cleaning clothes for parents after the fun has finished. We purchased ours from Amazon as we found it be around half the price of everywhere else at around £10. It can be purchased from a number of camping and outdoor shops for around the £20 mark. They run from 6 months old up to six years old so perfect for younger children.

It is available in a range of colours and we own it in blue and red. Both have reflective strips across the chest, back and hood so you can easily spot little one even in duller weather. There is a small picture of umbrella and raindrops half way down the suit which my children loved, but other than that it is just a plain jump suit in one block of colour. We decided as we wanted to be able to put these suits on over coats and chunky jumpers to go for the size up. We have found the sizing to be perfect for this. We are able to add a few layers or a thin jacket to keep the cold out and the suit still fits over the top without any problems. The hood sleeves and bottom of the legs all have an elasticised finish so that it sits tight to little ones body. This is perfect as not only does that mean if it is a little large there is no chance of it getting in the way. But it makes the suit completely weather proof as there are no sneaky openings for the rain to get into.

      In use

To put the suit on you simply have to thread one leg through and two arms. Then using the full length zip you just pull the other leg around and zip it right from the bottom to the top. I do find you have to do this slowly as a few times the material on the seam gets caught in the zip and it is a nightmare to get out. It is still very quick to get on and off which is handy with an impatient toddler. This is not something my children can put on themselves as they tend to have trouble with the zip catching. We have used these suits over and over again. They are perfect for walking the dog, going exploring in the woods or just wearing to the park after there has been a shower.

They keep my children's clothes both clean from the endless amount of mud they manage to find to play in, but they also keep them dry and warm. Because the suit fits so well and has elasticised arms legs and waist there is no annoyance from the suit at all while they are moving around. Paired with a set of wellies this suit keeps my children completely protected from the weather and mess. The hood stays up even with a wriggling toddler and sits on all of their heads perfectly. It protects them from getting wet but is not restrictive so it is irritating. Even after the novelty of the suit wore of all of my children are still very happy to wear them. They know they can still play outside whatever the weather and they seem comfy enough in them. I never realised how much we would actually use them until they arrived.

They have fared really well from the rough and tumble of my children. I did think they may be easy to rip or tear as the material is extremely thin. My children have fallen over a number of times and tested them playing in a number of different environments without any marks at all. What I really like this suit is how easy it is to clean. As you can imagine being worn by toddlers in mud and rain it becomes rather dirty. All you need to do is stick it in the washing machine on a low heat wash and it comes up brand new. Then it only takes a few minutes to dry because of the material so it can be washed and dried and ready for the next day's adventures.

      Summary

I would highly recommend one of these puddle suits to anyone with young children. We went with regatta as it one of the more well known brands and we have not been disappointed. It works perfectly from protecting little one from showers, mud and other weather elements. It is light enough it can be worn in the summer over clothing in case of showers, or just to go play in the woods or sandpit without becoming filthy. It can also be used in the winter as long as you layer it up as it is very light and thin so it does not offer much protection to the cold. I found it to be a reasonable price and I can see the suits being passed down to younger siblings.
