Advantages: bargain prices
Disadvantages: some items don't wash well
I can be quite a snob when it comes to clothes but at the same time I do like to get a bargain. When dd2 was born I really wanted her to have everything new. She received a lot of the TU summer range last year when everyone knew she was a girl, and my love of TU clothing has grown from there.
Sainsbury's is my supermarket of choice and each time we go into the store we always have a good look around the clothing section. Not all Sainsbury's stores have a TU range, and some stores will have limited stock. If you're lucky enough to visit a store with the complete collection, you will generally find ample choice for men, women and children including babies, with accessories to match.
** Women **
TU stock sizes from 8 - 22, and they section it off into casual wear including jeans; jumpers, t-shirts etc, and then you can also find a selection of tailored trousers and smarter wear.
I find the selection to be very varied and if I look through the clothes there will usually be something that catches my eye. The range isn't always quite as fashionable as I would perhaps choose, but there certainly are gems to be found occasionally.
My mother in law frequently picks things up from TU for all the family including me and she usually picks me some nice bits that I wouldn't necessarily have spotted.
** Men **
The Men's range isn't as wide as the ladies, but I think ladies will always shop more so the target market will be on them more than men.
The range is fairly limited to jeans, tops and jumpers, with a selection of shoes and belts thrown in. There is a small range of suits but only in the very large stores. These are basic black jackets and trousers to match.
** Babies **
TU are very good in their selection for baby wear and for this reason it deserves its own section. They stock unisex as well as boys and girls. They section their ranges into baby up to 18 months and then 12 months - 4years, with 3years to 12 years.
They stock a lovely Disney range for babies which make lovely presents for expectant parents.
** Children **
The latter age range of the children's clothes gong up to twelve years, I have found that having a pre teen the last few years, she really hasn't been that interested with any of the clothes from TU. They designs are great for younger children but I think once they are past nine or ten then it becomes a bit unfashionable for them.
There is a lovely range of character clothing dependant on which characters are popular at the time. Currently it's Peppa pig and Charlie and Lola that are appearing quite a lot.
** Prices **
I have always found the prices of the TU range to be reasonable cheap for a supermarket brand. You can often pick up bargains when there is a sale on, and especially when Sainsbury's have their 25% off TU weekends on a fairly regular basis. This makes a pack of three top for £5.50 a bargain once you have taken a discount off, and of course taken into account any nectar points you can collect for the purchase at the same time.
** Quality **
I have never had a problem with the quality of the adult clothing from TU. The children's clothes don't wear quite so well. I find the basic items of clothes in respect where you can buy a top for £1.50 won't be designed for constant use, and I would buy this for a play school clothing etc.
The rest of the ranges do wash very well and stay in shape for a long time. Sometimes they wear better than the more expensive ranges at Next.
** Accessories **
There is a wide range of accessories you can pick up from shoes, pyjamas, slippers, handbags, jewellery, swim wear, socks and underwear. All of the accessories come under the same TU umbrella and therefore count for any relevant discounts that can apply.
** Overall **
The people who bought me the clothes when my daughter was born has done me a huge favour, as I have since realised I can keep the whole family looking nice and respectable, but without breaking the bank and spending a fortune on something because it has a label in it.
I always have a browse when I go in store, but I have learnt to wait a couple of weeks to see if they will have a 25% off weekend before I buy anything.
Summary: a great place to buy some clothes
