Advantages: No bounce; Comfortable; No ill effects from the washing machine
Disadvantages: Price (but worth every penny)
As a woman who could be considered bigger up top a sports bra has been an essential part of my sportswear for years. I have been buying my bras from a trusted retailer for years and just assumed it was normal to suffer a little "bounce" when exercising, and as it wasn't painful I didn't worry. Until I lost weight, I changed size significantly and could no longer buy sports bras from my usual shop and that's when I came across a Shock Absorber bra in my size.
Now this is the first great thing about Shock Absorber bras is that they come in a range of back and cup sizes from 28 to 40 odd and A to H cups so you're bound to find one to fit. They also vary in support/bounce reduction with four impact levels tailored to your sport of choice and your size. They are only available in black and white but this isn't really a significant issue - I mean who are you going to be showing your sports bra off too? However at the moment pale pink Shock Absorbers can be found with the added bonus that a percentage of the purchase price is donated to a breast cancer charity. And on the note of purchase price.. these bras generally retail at around £28, a little pricy but hopefully this review will make it clear that they are worth every penny.
Working from back to front the bras have a secure back hook and eye fastening. The shoulder straps are relatively wide and slightly padded ensuring that they don't cut into you and stay in place during even the most vigorous exercise. There is no underwiring (usually something I can't live without) but two individual, full, extremely supportive cups. The bra is made of coolmax fabric which helps wick the sweat away from your skin and I can say it does seem to do this effectively.
On donning the bra if the correct size it will feel securely tight and comfortable. The indiviual cups can make it look a little like you are wearing a slightly pointy 1950s-esque bra, however no one has ever made any comments about this so maybe its not so noticeable (and I much more used to the unsupportive crop tops).
And now does this bra work - does it stop the bounce? Well recently I put it to the test during a 10 mile run and I am very pleased to report that there was hardly a jiggle. And even though other items of my sportswear rubbed, there was no problems with my bra and I still felt totally comfortable in it after wearing it in anger for almost 2 hours. And post wearing these withstand the effects of the washing machine and come out like new. Although they aren't suitable for the tumble drier and I'm not willing to find out what the effect of tumble drying would be for this review. The cool max fabric dries quickly enough in the air.
So considering all aspects I think I have found the perfect sports bra and will be using this brand for years to come.
Summary: Once you've worn one you'll never go back
