===Why I Bought This===
I have been on the lookout for a decent and lightweight maxi coat for a few years now. I use a mobility scooter around our village for trips out, and often like going out in the winter for fresh air, but it can get rather cold and wet.
I did buy one padded coat from Cotton Traders a while ago but it was quite short and my legs would get freezing cold. As I cannot get out for shopping much I was looking in the catalogues, but all the warm long coats seemed quite expensive - until I spotted these on the Kays website.
South which is sold by Kay & Co.
Label states 'Shop Direct Home Shopping Ltd' who supply Littlewoods, Very, isme, K&Co. and Woolworths.
'South Hooded Padded Coat' - available as short, normal or longer lengths.
Long maxi design with fixed hood.
Fastens with two way zipper and also poppers.
2 side pockets.
Made in China.
Fabric - Polyamide. Lining: Polyester.
Machine washable up to 40 degress - no tumble drying or ironing.
Colours: Black, Blue Grey - new coats in current catalogue are in black or bronze/brown.
As well as this maxi style Kays also sell a hip length coat in the same style and material, but different colours.
£50 at full price, but were reduced and I bought my two for £20 each - since then the price has gone back up.
I love this coat - and I have it in both the black and the blue/grey which is a great colour to go with jeans.
These coats are very lightweight but also lovely and warm - being padded like a sleeping bag. I bought the black one first and wore it all last wnter, and lked it so much when the blue one was on sale I bought that too.
As I like my coats nice and long I bought the 'tall' version so it comes right down to nearly my ankles and is great - so now I use the blue for the 'summer' and keep the black more for winter.
The coats are padded and over-sewn into channels - there are horizontal channels running around the waist area to give a sort of belt/waistband effect.
As I use these coats when I am out and about in the elements, and also often in frost and cold winds I bought them a size bigger than normal - so I have room to wear a fleece underneath for extra insulation in the winter. If I had been buying them to just wear around town I would have gone for my normal size.
I love these so much I hope to get the new bronze colour one as well - especially if it gets reduced in price after Christmas.
I even use these sometimes scrunched up on the settee to be lovely and soft to lie against - and if you were very cold in the winter you could put one on top of you like a slanket - and much warmer.
In fact I was wearing the blue one last night for a trip aorund our village - not what you expect to be wearing in August, but it is so lightweight it does not feel like a conventional winter coat.
These are machine washable and I have washed my black one - which also dries quickly and easily. Also if I have been out in the rain (like last night) all I do it is drape it over a chair or hang it up and by the next day it is dry.
I ordered a few to try for fit as the width of the coats does vary a little depending on whether they are the 'standard' or 'tall' lengths - and I wanted mine as wide and long as possible.
The pockets are also great as in the winter I put those little gel hand-warmers in them to keep me cosy.
Definitely the best coats I have had for years and as long as they keep stocking them I will keep buying.
