I purchased this black peplum too from Topshop for £16. I bought the sleeveless version, though I am pretty certain there are long sleeves and short sleeves versions available too. If not on Topshop, try ASOS!
As always, Topshop quality is standard. It is neither great nor poor. This top in particular has quite a nice heavy feel to it which makes it feel more expensive than it is. The cotton is soft yet strong and is of a nice thickness. It does not shrink or manipulate in the wash.
This too can be worn in any season. Due to the nature of the fabric, it can be warm in winter but breathable and cool in the summer season. The sleeveless style lends itself more to the summer, too. The black makes this top a perfect staple piece to wear around the clock - from the workplace to the bar.
The peplum shape is a classic. It emphasises a small waist and highlights a womanly hour glass figure. It's very feminine, sexy and womanly without being overtly so. The style is of top marks. It is not a trend but a timeless piece.
- classic shape
- good quality material
- expensive compared to others available
This Topshop peplum top is available in a range of colours. I own it in black, white and red but i have seen it in store and online in a wide variety of really lovely colours. The top is a vest top that is fitted at the top and then flares out at the waist. This top has a zip on the back which goes about a third of the way down the top. The zip can be opened to make it easier to get on, as the top is quite fitted.
I have worn this top in a variety of ways. I have worn it with skinny jeans and heels for a night out n a bar/restaurant, I have also worn it with jeans and pumps for a casual daytime look, and I recently wore it with shorts on holiday. It looks nice with a skinny waist belt too which adds a bit of colour contrast.
This top is really flattering as it is fitted, yet at the bottom it is loose so covers up any lumps and bumps! I find the sizes true to size, I am normally a 10 and this is what I bought this top in. It fits perfectly. The top is available in size 6-16 and I think it would look great on all sizes. The part where the top starts to flare out is elasticised and stretchy meaning it is comfortable and is not too tight and doesn't dig in.
I have washed my top numerous times and found that it washes really well and still fits exactly the same. I do find that on occasion Topshop clothes really don't wear well, but that is not the case with this top. The material is quite thick and it is made of 95% cotton and 5% elastane. I have also had no problems with colours running in any of the 3 tops I own.
This top costs £18 in Topshop and ask like to consider items in 'price per wear' I consider these tops good value. A similar style of top can probably be bought elsewhere for cheaper, however I think a few extra pounds is worth it to get the good quality of this top. I definitely plan to wear these tops again next summer and think they will stand the test of time.
If you have read any of my previous reviews you will know that Topshop is my favourite high street store. I don't tend to buy basics like this from Topshop because their prices do tend to be higher than the likes of Primark. This review is of the plain black peplum top. Peplum, for those who don't tend to follow the trends is the name given to the shape and fit of the top. It is very fitted at the top and then from the waist it flares out and is loose fitting. I decided to buy this top as I do like this current trend and I decided that it would go well with jeans for a night at a bar with friends and I thought that I could wear it to restaurants etc in the future.
The straps on this top are slightly thicker than spaghetti straps and just like that of regular vest tops. The material is something that I really rate as it is thicker than some of the cheaper peplum tops that I have seen making it better value and durable. There is a line of material at the waist where the top changes shape and then the frilly peplum gives way from there. The changing shape of the top is very, very flattering. Even though the top is very basic I think it is formal and instantly looks like an effort has been made to dress up and look nice.
I bought this top in a size 8 and the fit is perfect, it has a zip on the back to allow extra room for getting into the top as it is designed to be fitted on the top half. The bottom half is very flattering for skimming over the hips. It is also possible to add a skinny belt onto the waist of this top which I did as it adds a bit of colour and extra shape to the otherwise plain top. Jewellery also helps to jazz up this plain top.
I have washed this top twice and the colour and shape has held up after the whole washing and drying process. The material if you are interested is 95% cotton and 5% elastane. The drying process takes quite a while I found due to the material being quite thick but this wasn't a problem for me.
This top is available in sizes 6-16 and costs just £18. I think I remember seeing this top in different colours but im not 100% sure. Overall, I rate this top 5 stars as I have no complaints so far.
I first saw this peplum style top in my nearest Topshop available in black or cream. I thought it looked smart but feared the price would put me off as clothing is usually quite expensive in Topshop, but I was surprised to see this priced at only £16. Other peplum tops that I have seen almost identical to this by other retailers have been priced at over £20.
I decided to try it on as I usually am a size 8 but a lot of Topshop clothes I need to buy in a bigger size as they tend to be a smaller fit. However, the size 8 fit me perfectly as the material is very stretchy, but not so much that it ends up too tight on me and being uncomfortable. This is in fact very comfortable!
I bought this in black but it has since became available in many more colours including white, grey, blue, coral, cream and khaki. I have noticed that they now have a zip on the back which goes down about a third of the way of the top. Mine does not include a zip so I am not sure if they decided to discontinue them for some reason but I have had no problems with pulling mine on or off or it being too tight around the neck, so I don't see the need to have a zip there. The ones with the zips on are now priced at £18 instead of £16 which is how much I paid for mine. Both styles of the top are still available on the Topshop website.
I think this top looks very smart and can be dressed up or can be worn as a more casual look. I wear mine with skinny jeans and it looks very flattering. I also wore a blazer over mine so the flared bit of the top fell just below the jacket which made it stand out even more. I wore it to work and got lots of compliments, I want to go and buy it in more colours!
This is a lovely top and the quality is excellent. I also think it is a reasonable price considering it is from Topshop, where I think a lot of the clothing is overpriced. It is 95% cotton and 5% elastane and is machine washable. It is available in sizes 6 up to 16 and as I mentioned it is true to its size due to the stretchy material. A few of the colours are also available in Topshop's petite and tall sections.
