“ Brand: Topshop / Type: Dress „
These dresses have been everywhere this year, and this is Topshop's take on the 'skater' style dress.
I've been very pleased with this buy, at £20 from Topshop, which isn't too bad when you see some of the prices you pay there!
There are a range of colours available. In my opinion the dress can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. I own the electric blue version, and have since bought similar styles from different shops, as the shape of the dress is very flattering to my figure.
The material is quite skin tight, as it's jersey style material. It 'flips' out at the bottom and comes to just above the knee for me which is a nice look with heels for a night out, or pumps for during the day time.
Dressed up, the blue version I own goes with black suede heels and a little evening bag and a black cardi if it's cold.
Dressed down I wear it with some simple pumps.
Highly recommended, these dresses are versatile and can be worn in a variety of ways and come in lovely colours - olive green, grey, burgundy etc. They also suit quite a lot of different shapes.
I first saw this dress, or 'tunic', as Topshop refer it to in my nearest Topshop and what attracted me to it was the colour. It was available in other colours too including blue, grey, cream and black but at the moment I seem to like the maroon red colour on clothes and so I decided to try it on. I didn't actually think much of it at first as it looks quite plain, but I thought it would look smart to wear for work and at £20 I thought it was cheap, especially for Topshop.
I was with my friends when I tried it on and when I did they all commented on how lovely it looked on, as like me they didn't think it was anything special at first. The bottom half of the dress is like a skater style, it does not come out much but it doesn't lie flat either, not as much as it seems to in the picture. The 'cap' style sleeves lie nicely on my shoulders and don't go over them too much, I think it makes the dress look that little bit smarter.
I thought I could wear it for work with tights but this could also be worn for a night out too by dressing it up with a skinny belt or a big statement necklace. It is long enough to be worn by itself for me and I am around 5"4. However if you are quite tall then you might not be able to get away with wearing this without tights and unfortunately this is not available in Topshop's Tall range.
The material of this dress is 96% cotton and 4% elastane and is machine washable. I am a size 8 but I often need to buy size 10 in Topshop as a lot of their clothes can be very tight fitting. However, this dress is quite stretchy and so I only needed my usual size 8 and it fits perfectly. It is very flattering! It is available in sizes 6 up to 16.
As I stated previously this is available in grey, cream, black and blue too and these can all be found on the Topshop website. The picture of the blue one is very misleading though and it is more like an electric blue/purple colour in real life, and not blue. It is priced at £20 which I think is good for Topshop, I was expecting it to cost nearer to £30 when I first checked. I paid £18 for mine as my friend used her student discount for it, so even cheaper if you have a student card. My friends have told me they have since gone back and bought this in other colours since seeing me in this, and I also wouldn't mind getting this in other colours if I didn't have so many clothes already!
