“ Brand: Topshop / Type: Jeans „
Like most girls I love clothes, and I picked up a few bargain buys in the sales earlier this year. The MOTO denim brand is available from Topshop, and I purchased these Oil Coated Jeans from one of their high street stores, where I believe they were reduced to around £16.00 at the time.
I was drawn to these particular jeans as they have a lovely rich burgundy red colour, which works really well when paired with neutral or earthy tones to fit in with Autumn and Winter season outfits. These jeans also have an "oil coated" finish which adds a little individual touch to make the jeans stand out. The coated finish essentially forms a waxed look which covers over the fabric, and most times will be matte but sometimes comes with a shiny version as well. In this case the base colour of the jeans is a dark shade of red, and the oil coating is black with a slight sheen to it. It seems to be thicker in some areas such as around the pockets and the waistband. The jeans are machine washable although it is recommended to turn the jeans inside out first, and I have been doing this in an attempt to help protect the coating. Unfortunately it only took a short amount of time before the oil coating has begun to wear away, and it is now barely noticeable compared to how it first looked. The finish has dulled to look more like a red pair of jeans with a dark wash, and the texture of the oil effect is no longer visible.
I particularly like the cut of these jeans as they are very flattering to my body shape. They fit really snugly around my waist, hips and legs, but there seems to be a good bit of stretch to the fabric as it is really comfortable to wear and clings to my body without cutting in or feeling as tight as it looks! They look really good on and the cut helps to make the most of my thin legs and actually gives a bit of shape to my little butt thanks to the pocket placement. The jeans have a standard 5 pocket design, but they are pretty much just for show as the pockets are far too small to actually be able to carry anything securely. There are belt loops all the way around the top edge and so can be worn with a belt if required, which I find essential as the waistband can slip down at the back if I kneel down or bend over. My main problem though is that the length is very odd. I would expect most jeans to have a full length leg, or maybe come just an inch or so above ankle length for a fashionable look to be worn with heels. However, these jeans come a good 4 inches or more above my ankle and are quite cropped, so that if I want to wear them in the colder weather I have to make sure to put on legwarmers with my ankle boots to cover the gap and stop the would-be exposed skin from getting freezing cold. Another problem I have is that the inner seam on the left leg is constantly twisting outwards when I walk, and ends up moving around to the front of my leg which can then rub and become a bit annoying and uncomfortable. I do end up readjusting the leg several times a day when I'm wearing these jeans which is a bit of a nuisance, and I thought it was strange that there is a problem with just this one seam.
Overall I think these jeans are ok but they are not quite as practical as I would have hoped. I really like the colour and the skinny fit cut is flattering to my body shape. It's just a shame that the length is a bit too cropped for my liking, and the fancy coated finish has worn away quickly. I do like Topshop clothes in general so I would definitely buy from them again, but next time I want a pair of jeans I'll make sure to check the leg length measurements more carefully.
