“ Manufacturer: Topshop / Clothing Type: Casual Wear / Gender: Female „
I do like Topshop, but I am definitely a fan of this skirt.
I bought the black one, after seeing some people around wearing it, but wish I had opted for the primark copy instead, which would have essential gave me the same quality of skirt I think, and a margin of the price tag.
This skirt is quite stretchy, which gives you the option of wearing it high waisted or lower down, without worrying about it not fitting. It is quite a tight skirt, (a given with body con skirts) but is comfortable, as the material stretches as you move around. The skirt has a tendency to ride up when I walk around, which means I am constantly pulling it down.
It is versatile, you can wear it smart, or casually with a variety of t-shirts, blouses and tops. It also works well on a night out. However, cherish it when it's new, while you can. After putting this skirt in the wash, it has bobbled considerably, making it look old and worn out only a few weeks after purchasing. Not good news. It also attracts dust, and because of the texture of the skirt, this is hard to remove with a lint roller. Again, the dustiness makes it look old and tired.
For this reason alone, I would not recommend this product. If I'm going to pay a good price, I expect a product to last, not look past its best before I've properly had a chance to wear it.
This bodycon skirt is very similar to many others available on the market, but it is much more expensive. Though, I do think the quality is great. There are many pieces of clothing that you leave behind your wardrobes, but this skirt is definitely not one of them. I wear this skirt a lot! Whether it is for a casual or formal event, it will match practically any outfit. It is stylish and girly. There are a range of colours to choose from, the texture makes the skirt more 'modern'. Moreover, I am quite short in height so to find a skirt that perfectly fits me is fantastic! I am so glad I bought this skirt because it looks great! The problem with it is that when you walk, the skirt does rise up your leg and it can get annoying at times because you constantly have to keep pulling it back down again. Also, the bottom of the skirt usually flicks out which does make it look slightly strange. Though, when you wear this with your outfits - it does look fantastic! Quality product.. but definitely not cheap at all !
This is pretty much like all of the other bodycons available. For anyone who doesn't know what a bodycon skirt is, it's a tube skirt. It's pretty high waisted and is ideal for tucking in shirts etc or wearing casually with a crop/bandeau. It's really versatile and goes with anything. It's both smart and sexy and can be worn short and high waisted, or slightly lower and not as high waisted. I love wearing mine with heels and a nice crop. It's really figure hugging and exaggurates curves so it's really not for the girls who feel insecure and i wouldn't reccomend it because it feels so tight it may make some people more self concious of themselves. Ideal to wear to work or uni as a smart but sleek look, or on a night out for a more sexy look. The ruched look to it is nice and adds feminity, it's almost like a knitted skirt, but i've noticed after a few washes they're not as defined and have lost a bit of shape..
Really comfy once you've squeezed into it! I always buy mine a size smaller as i like the tightness of it, but if you get it in your actual size you'll most likely still find it a tight squeeze! It's very stretchy around the skirt but not that stretchy around the actual waist which is a bit of a pain when you're feeling insecure about your belly and you can't fit it over! Mine's adjusted now though to my shape and is pretty easy to get into and adjust once on.
Options and Sizing:
The skirt goes from an 6 to a 16. It's out of stock on topshop's website as far as i know so can currently only be bought instore (assuming your local topshop sells them or has them in stock!) Colours available are light purple, black, baby pink, light green, light blue and yellow. There's also a light brown which isn't the greatest colour but it may be to someones taste!
Price and Value:
Personally i won't be buying this skirt again due to the simplicity of it. At £25 it's more expensive then i'd usually spend on an item of clothing, so i was expecting a great quality and well designed skirt; it's a typical skirt materal and the plaits are nothing special. Similar skirts are available from primark for as cheap as 50p and newlook do a similar design for £6. I still wear it alot but it's certiannly nothing to rave about.
I have this skirt in black from Topshop and absolutely love it! because it is ruched means that it stays nice and tight all day! I am able to wear it with just about anything in my wardrobe which makes it the perfect staple item of clothing which I will more than likely wear throughout spring too! I wear the skirt on night out with different styles of tops tucked into it, its the perfect length to flatter my hips! :) If I am going for a more casual look i wear it with a band top and let the top hang over it (perfect for holding in your tummy under your top)!!
I have also found that the skirt washes really well, great considering i have had issues with the quality of Topshop clothes these day! I have managed to tumble dry the skirt after i wash it to keep it tight when i wear it. i have found that this has not damaged the elastic at all!
I was considering buying this skirt, becuase I saw it on the website and thought it looked really nice. Then my friend told me she had it and I thought I would go around and look at it to see if I liked it or not.
Firstly the colour - on the website it looked quite a nice pale lavender colour, but in person it was really disgusting mix of brown and purple - very unappealing on the eye. The other colours they offer it in are black, pale pink, greeny blue and yellow. Personally, I think they're all horrible, but you can make your own mind up.
The texture is really weird - the skirt has loads of little ruched up bits of the surface, which don't do a very good job of making you look skinny/remotely nice in any way.
My friend had washed her skirt a few times, and you could really tell, the material had 'bobbled' up and the colour was slightly washed out.
Also the skirt is very tight (as the bodycon aspect suggests) and clings to every curve, so if you're looking for a non-VPL then this isn't the skirt for you.
It comes in at £25, which whilst not being overly expensive for a topshop skirt (I've bought a £45 skirt from topshop before) but I think it's too expensive for this skirt.
