Topshop Side Studded Leggings
Advantages: Look nice and different
Disadvantages: Don't go with a lot and studs came away after very little wear
Last week I had an email from Topshop which contained a picture of these leggings under their 'stud' section. I thought they would be a great addition to my wardrobe as I regularly wear leggings but they can sometimes look a bit plain, especially when you wear them a lot. These have a bit more about them so I decided the were a simple solution to spice up my wardrobe.
I purchased them last Friday, when they had a limited student discount period of 20%. So they were meant to be £26, but I got a handy £5.20 off, result! I ordered them online and by Monday they had arrived and that was only using standard delivery.
Visuall from the front, they look the same as the usual black leggings but both legs, on the outer side, contain silver and gold studs that have been pressed into the material, making them a lot more interesting to look at. Topshop sell them in sizes 8 to 16 and I purchased a 12 as I have quite long legs. I tried them on when they arrived and the length of the leg was perfect and sat just below my ankle. They fit snug and comfortably like normal leggings and the studs don't itch or feel uncomfortable. They were made in Turkey and made from 95% viscose and 5% elastane. According to Topshops website, they are machine washable.
The day after purchasing them, I put them on in the morning put found that nothing I have really seems to go with them. I thought it must just be me (and my wardrobe) and so I came to the conclusion that I would try to match them with something when I had a bit more time. That happened to be a couple of days ago and I put them on, ready to go out. I wasn't entirely sure they looked right but decided to go with it nonetheless. After having them on for about 5 minutes, I noticed the studs on the left hand side have started to come away from the material. The more I looked, I realised that this had happened down both legs. I am really disappointed as I have not come across anything like with with Topshop before, usually their clothes are really good quality.
In summary, these leggings look nice and I think they'd great for a night out with some heels. But as far as day wear goes, I don't think they're my thing really. If you do get some wear out of them, it seems the aren't going to last all that long before falling apart anyway, so on the whole, these leggings definitely wouldn't be my first recommendation.
