Epson Stylus Office BX305F
by jade1517
I bought this printer after my previous one broke, we was initially looking for a wireless one but as this one was on offer for a good price, the extra money was not worth it.
The printer itself is very quiet and prints out documents quickly, but can be slower when it comes to printing out full coloured images. The two ... different scanning options is very handy, I tend to scan or photocopy multiply pages at ones so i find the scanner on top which feeds the pages through one after another very useful, I can leave it to scan multiple pages without having to worry about being there after every page. This printer also has the option to fax, which i do not use to often but when I have used it in the past it is very easy to use and a lot cheaper than any other faxing options i have tried. You also get the choice of using two different ink cartridges, a more expensive one if you are interested in printing good quality detailed coloured photographs and a cheaper one if you are just using it for everyday standard uses.
The only downfall I have found with this printer is, that i feel i am constantly buying ink cartridges. When i bought it, it did come with the more expensive ink and they did seem to last quite a while, but I felt i did not need to print out anything more than documents etc. so i continued to buy the cheaper ink, but it does seem to drain the ink quickly.
Overall i would say this is a good printer for home offices, the quality of printing is good, but the ink can get expensive, and if i was to buy one again I personally would probably choice the one with built in wifi so all the computers in the house can use it without having to keep swapping cables, when someone other than the person using the main printer needs it. Brother MFC J6910DW
by Lydsabug
Having started my little business working from home, i decided to buy a 'little' printer, essential for all the printing tasks i had in mind....opting initially for a Kodak multi functioning unit. Okay, this was the first time i had bought a printer for home and i soon learnt that cheaper isn't necessarily the best way forward. Numerous ... paper jams later and constant refills for the ink prompted my return to Staples for some advice and a new machine.
Despite thinking (once again in my ignorance) that a laser printer would be better, i was soon rethinking this one as the ink toners were extortionate! Again, back to the drawing board and a chat with a great young man about the benefits of the Brother machines on offer.
We decided on the Brother MFCJ6910DW as he described it as a workhorse and although a little on the big side, it got everything done with little effort but maybe a little slowly (was he selling this to me???).
It was on offer in store for £225 and came with an initial start up of ink, which in fairness lasted me around 3 weeks of printing around 60 ages daily. Ink costs around £80 for replacement of all four cartridges and they are extremely easy to re install. The deal was done and the very kind and somewhat muscly chap took it to my car.........i didn't realise at this point it weighed in around the 30 pound range and did i have trouble getting it out of the car and into the house?? My advice is that it will take 2 people to carry this successfully as not only the weight is a factor, its really big!
Set up was easy, ink was inserted at the front, has its own little compartment and paper drawer was at the front. The paper catcher/stopper was a little fiddly for hubbys big hands but once in place it wasnt moving.
Wireless set up was a breeze but for some reason, although its on the network i cannot get it to see my computer meaning that when i scan i have to put the info on to a USB stick, which slots very nicely into the front of the machine. Paper in, i set to print and this was effortless. The spooling is quick and the printing, averaging 25 ppm for the colour and around 23 ppm for the colour, quality is excellent and as long as you use decent paper, its very professional to look at.
Photocopying is the only thing that significantly lets the Bprther machine down, its a real labour for both the machine and myself! It takes an absolute age to copy even in fast mode (there are Best, Normal and Fast) to chose from but the other tow took even longer. Once an item has been copied (around 45 seconds for each page, then it has to recheck itself for another 30 seconds before it will copy anything else and this is way too long if you have a large number of pages to copy. Again, quality is excellent.
It has a fax facility but i dont use this so unable to comment, i just cant be doing with random companies sending irrelevant faxes and using all my paper.
Scanning is excellent and they are saved in PDF format either linking to your computer or other media, namely a USB in my case and then transferred to the computer. You can scan to email but i prefer to monitor this on my computer so again, cannot comment.
This machine, although cumbersome, is fantastic quality for the money i paid. I have only had one paper jam since i bought it and i use it regularly every day. Its weight means its not easy to move around so i suggest settling it into a nice spot and leaving well alone......it will work endlessly and efficiently and its not a noisy machine. Self checking on boot up is quick and a little more noisy but what printer isnt when it starts?
The digital display on the front is very clear and all the buttons are easy to use making navigation around the system painless, it will bleep nicely when you get something wrong but not in an irritating way. I print certificates for my business on 180gm paper and there is a slot at the back of the machine to put these, again, pretty easy to use. It will also print onto A3 paper and has done me proud with some lovely photos when i printed them for my father, beautiful quality and you can choose the size prints you like......only downside is the ink consumption.
I would highly recommend the printer (multi use machine) to anyone who needs a reliable, good worker at home. I love my Brother.....almost more than i love my brother!!! Read the complete review |

Epson Stylus Office BX300F
by jlaker1992
Introduction:
I have had this printer for around 6 months now and thought I should do a review on it. I purchased mine from tesco instore as it was on offer when I got it. I was looking for an Epson because the previous printers I have owned were Epsons and I have never had too much trouble with them. As a brand they seem very ... decent and trustworthy. What attracted me most to this printer was the fact that you can use it as a scanner and photocopier. I always tend to use scanners and it is a pain to have a seperate scanner in the office. This also can be used for faxes, I have never used fax in my life so it is irrelevent for me, but if you did use fax than this is perfect too. Overall the feautures seemed good for the price so I decided to invest in a brand new printer! (my old one sadly packed up after about 4/5 years useage!).
Price:
I paid £69.99. It was on offer at the time but I am sure you can still get it for a similar price online. I was happy to pay that price because it looked like a decent printer with all the added functions I could ever need. Printers are a very important part of daily life so I wanted the correct one for me and my girlfriend to use in the flat. There are also the costs of buying ink, The coloured ink is expesnive, but I rarely ever print in colour, most of the things I like to print are black and white. Epson cartridges are expensive, but good quality. I actually found some reduced at tesco last week so I am now pretty stocked up. The cheapest place to buy ink for my printer is online though, there are lots of deals and discounts to be had online.
Quality:
The printing quality of this printer is good, considering it isnt very expensive it can certainly produce some stunning prints. I have used this many times to print photos onto photo paper to put in various frames around the flat. The image quality is really good and isnt dark and dull like my old printer. I think the Ink is great too and combined it looks excellent. Also for black and white text it can print very clear and has a nice black colour instead of faded. It is really easy to use, there are specific mode buttons which you can use to choose what setting you need, it didnt take me long at all to get used to using it. There is stop button which comes in handy if you accidently print something you don't need!
Issues:
My only issues with the printer is that it can take a long time to print if you select good quality. Its a pain when you have to wait a long time for a large document to print. However it can be quick if you adjust the settings to poor or draft. The other issue is the amount of ink used when printing photos, but this is to be expected with any printer so shouldn't effect your choice. One more issue is the paper tray at the back, it is very flimsy and I do worry that one day I may snap it off! Hopefully though it should remain in tact and this should never cause an issue for me!
Design/sound:
I like the design of the printer, it looks very stylish and fits nicely on my office desk. It is black with the top scanner/photo copier being a curved design. It looks nice and alot different to other printers on the market. The buttons on the front are very clear and easy to use. The overall design is excellent and was one of the selling points of this to me. A major bonus to this is the fact that it doesnt sound too loud when it is printing. My old printers sounded like an elephant was stampeeding through the hall way, I like this and it won't wake anyone up if your printing late at night.
Overall:
I would recommend this epson printer to anyone who has a family or works from home. The fax feature will come in handy and also the print quality is great. The options for scanning and photo copying can come in handy. I am really pleased with this printer and I can see it being in my office/study for many years to come. I have had no real issues with it as of yet. Thanks for reading my review!
This gets 5 stars from me. Perfect for the price, nothing to complain about here at all! Read the complete review |
