Advantages: All the features you expect in a compact package
Disadvantages: Genuine inks can be expensive
I am relatively new to the home computing world and technical jargon, but when we acquired our computer we decided that we needed to have some kind of printer to go with it - it had to be easy to use. After searching we found the Brother MFC-235C.
This machine is compact but incorporates all the usual functions you would expect.
Fax - We found this difficult to set up because we only have one line coming into our house, but since we are not a business it's not really necessary.
Scan - A good feature for documents and old photo's to put on file.
Copy - You can produce black and white or colour copies. You can produce up to 99 copies in one go and reduce costs by coping up to 4 pages on one sheet.
Direct Photo Printing - You can print direct from a USB Flash Memory Drive and depending on the type of digital camera you have some will print direct to this machine as well. I have to admit that I have never used this feature prefering to store pictures on my machine and print at Tesco to save ink!
Printing - Colour and black and white.
The machine comes with a quick set up manual and CD-Rom and was easy to set up, the user guide is set up with diagrams to go along with the text. It is compact and fits into our "office" space in our front room.
The genuine ink cartridges can be expensive and if you don't use genuine whilst under warranty it will invalidate it, but search around and you will find quite a different in pricing. Non genuine cartridges are very reasonably priced.
