Advantages: Quality Printer
Disadvantages: None I Can Think Of
Epson Stylus RX700
Well this is my dad’s printer and I use it quite often so thought I would write a review about it. The printer is very good and I have never had any problems with it the whole time that I have been using it. The printer is very good quality because it was actually made for printing photos so you would expect the highest of qualities.
The Epson Stylus Photo RX700 offers a great range of facilities and things that you can use it for. Everything that I have ever wanted to do whilst using my dads computer I have been able to use the printer with it. It’s so easy to use. It can be used for pretty much anything and compatible with all applications so it can be used for school projects, web designing, and right down to photo printing. It can be used connected to your computer or you could use it as a standalone printer that allows you to copy documents in black and white or colour. It’s your choice. The printer is very easy to use and will meet everybody’s needs.
Here is the specification of the printer:
• Prints 20 pages per minute
• Holds all sizes of paper up to A4
• Has thee different trays that can be used for printing
• 2.5” fine colour LCD screen
• Memory card function
• Print from negative films from cameras
• Can scan at 3200 x 6400dpi
• Scan pages as big as A4
• Can scan to all destinations
• Windows and Macintosh compatible
• 450 x 418 x 236mm (w x d x h)
• 12.9kg
from using this printer and looking at the spec I have found that it is better than any other printer that I have ever used before and I think that it is an excellent printer to use. So lets run through the spec list. The printer can print up to 20 pages per minute that’s if you print 20 pages all at once; this applies to black and white pages only colour pages take slightly longer to print.
The printer actually has three different trays that you can place paper in and this makes it easier for the user if they regularly print on different size paper or different quality paper. Each tray can hold up to 150 sheets of economy paper. There are three trays and one of these includes a tray that you can use to print labels for DVD’s and CD’s. I found this little tray very useful.
Also another great feature of the printer is that it has a 2.5” LCD screen. This enables me to have a preview of what I am going to print when I am using the copy function or when I am using the memory card slots in the printer. I thought that this was a very useful feature because it can save a lot of messing about on the computer to see what you are copying and it could also save paper.
As with most computers now you can slot memory cards into the printer. This cuts out all of the hassle with trying to plug in your USB cable for the camera or whatever you are using. This makes printing you pictures from your digital camera even easier.
This is what I believe to be the best feature of the printer. You can actually print pictures using the printer but the source of the pictures is the negatives that you get with you camera. This is a great function allowing for all of those really old pictures from the bottom of your wardrobe to be put on to you computer really easily.
The capabilities that this printer has when it is scanning is unbelievable. It can pic up on so much detail its quite incredible. When I say it can scan to all destinations I mean that you can scan an image and it will go to your memory card or to your negatives that you have in the printer. Other destinations include scan to your email, web and fax. This is all making the working day much easier and faster when you want to do things but cant really be bothered.
Like most things for computers these days the printer is compatible with both windows and Macintosh meaning for a wider audience so that Epson make yet more money.
For a printer with all of these features I thought that it was very small and very light considering what it does. The measurements and weights are shown above. This printer as well as other recent Epson printers has 6 different ink cartridges. With the functionality of having 6 different cartridges it means that you will save a lot of money on ink cartridges. Each cartridge has a single colour and a slightly larger cartridge for the black as most printers do. With this it means that if you run out of one colour then you can just replace the ink. Whereas with some of the older printers if you ran out of one colour you may be throwing away half a cartridge full of ink because it was all in one. I have found that it is a lot easier to handle the ink as separate colours and I have also found that the ink is a lot cheaper.
One of the main reasons that I have found ink cheaper is because I buy my ink online from a website called inkcartridgedirect.com. This means that all my ink needs are at the click of a button and I no longer have to search forever round shops to try and find my ink because PCWorld doesn’t stock it. Ink for the printer can be purchased at most good computer stores but as I say I get mine off the internet. Ink from retailers will cost you around £6.99 a cartridge. Where I get my ink from it costs me about £21.00 and then usually 99p postage which isn’t really that much considering size, as they do send a free black ink with every purchase.
Anyway moving on I think that the printer would be able to suit anybody’s needs because it has been able to do anything that I have needed and I don’t think that there is much more that a printer could do to make out lives any easier. The printer is very good value for money and can be bought in most good computer stores or can be purchased on eBay like my dad did and it only cost him £150.00 is amazing value for money.
I would recommend this product to anyone who needs a decent printer.
Thank you for reading and I hope that you read my other reviews. Thank you.
