I really love my Lexmark X5470. It is great because it is multifunctional and the print comes out in great quality. I love that not only is it a printer it is also a scanner and a fax machine. I was doing a school project where I needed to have picture from throughout my life. I did not want to use the original copies so I scanned them onto the printer and then I printed the copies out again. The pictures came out in great quality. This printer is really easy to use and is also easy to put the software onto the computer. In total it only took me about twenty minutes to set up the printer and to install the software onto my computer. In addition it is not too big so it doesn't take up a lot of desk space. I would recommend this printer to anyone who wants a multifunctional printer with easy use.
We bought this computer to upgrade our old Lexmark which had unfortuantely bitten the dust. We got it from Argos for £50 as the one we wanted was out of stock and the retail price of this one was £99. What a bargain. This was an upgrade on all accounts and immediately after printing off the test page I was thinking we have ourselves a little belter here. We immediately put it through its paces as we had 100 wedding invites to print off and it becomes quickly apparent that this thing guzzles ink like there is no tomorrow. Not ideal when you have a bulk printing session lined up and only one of each cartridge. Apart from that, the printer is very easy to use and being an all-in-one the scanner and photocopier are very good. It comes with a software package which makes using all of these things very easy indeed. All in all, I would recommend this printer to someone if you do not do too much printing as the cartridges are also expensive. Not for anyone who prints off pages and pages per day.
We brought this printer about year and half ago from asda for around £60 which we thought was a bargain, as there where so many different features including colour printing black and white printing ,fax machine, sd memory card slot for printing your pictures of, scanner, photo copiers etc.
The printer was great and we used it daily for about 6 months, but did notice like with any other printer it did gobble ink like nobody's business. I even did me proud when i had to print of 200 leaflets!
We then had a major bug on the computer which completely whiped everything off- pictures documents etc. the computer printer etc had been turned off for a couple of days, when we heard the printer making noises to itself??? i thought nothing of it and when the computer had been repaired a couple of days later the same thing happened it kept making noises, it was attached to the computer but wasn't switched on.
After much debate we realised the printer had brought the bug onto the computer, needless to say as soon as we found this out it went in the bin!
wouldn't recommend to anyone
The lexmark X5470 is in general a good printer. With a resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi, you will get a very good print. And it is also capable of printing 25 pages per minute in black and 18 per minute in colour.
On top of this it is also loaded with a 600 x 1200 scanner, 4 memory card readers, a PictBridge port and USB 2 capability. Making it a good all round printer for any home or small office. You can also use this unit as a fax machine with a speed dial option available to use.
The only two downsides to this printer is for one, in my experience lexmark printers tend to be un reliable. Secondly the cartridges are always more expensive on lexmark than almost any other brand. The cartrides that you need are the Lexmark No. 33 which is generally priced at £19.99 and the Lexmark 32 priced normally at £17.99.
To summarise, this is a good printer and a good price. But be warned that the running cost can be a little more expensive than a different brand of printer.
P.s dooyoo seems to think this is a phone, so ignore the rating of sound quality and battery talk time please :)
Purchased the above in Dec 06 - fax facility is intermittent. E-mailed our problems to help desk. They sent instructions to resolve. This did not work. Eventually phoned helpdesk - took 15mins to answer - told there was a problem with the fax and that they are "manufacturing" part to resolve. This was Jan 10th - I have not had ANY confirmation from them when I will recieve part or ANY correspondence re fault.
