Advantages: Lots of handy features
Disadvantages: Uses a lot of toner, and doesn't use MPT sometimes
A number of months ago the IT eqipment in our work was updated, this included our office getting a new printer/fax machine. The OKI C 5550 Multi Functional Printer is what we were given.
I'm no technology expert but I will review this as best I can! Unlike our old printer, this one can do a number of things; printing, scanning, copying and sending & receiving faxes.
Printing:
You can print either single or double sided with this printer, and the print quality seems excellent. You can feed in card, labels or transparancies via the multi purpose tray at the front.
Scanning:
You can scan in documents to the top of the printer and then send them to your email address. Our IT department set this up so i'm not totally sure now it works, but you can save a number of email addresses in an address book in the printer so that the scanning can be transferred quickly. The whole process is very straight forward.
Copying:
You can use the printer as a photocopier, either using the top feeder, or lifting the lid and setting documents on the glass. You are able to zoom up to 400% or reduce to 25%, and choose how many copies you need. Copying can be done in either black or colour.
Faxing:
The fax feature works as any fax does. You put the printer on fax mode and type in your number, feed in the pages to be faxed and hit go! (You just need to plug in a phone line of course)
Problems:
I find it uses up the toner pretty quickly. We would use up a black toner (it uses 4 separate toners black, cyan, magenta & yellow) within a month if we were to use it medium to heavily. We've also had to replace a fusion unit in the first 6 months.
The printer also can be prone to jamming if you use card on occasions. Also, sometimes when you want to print this out using the multi-function tray (MFT), is still picks up from the default paper tray, even when you specifically ask it to use the MFT. This can get annoying.
It is quite noisy when it is printing too.
Additional points:
It has a power save button and LCD to highlight jams when you run out of paper.
Summary: Average multi functional printer

florascarlett - 21/03/08 We use these in work too, they really are good printers (and I love that they print double-sided), but I totally agree about using too much toner! |
