I have been using Quicken to manage my bank accounts for about five years now. Until I started using this system, I always had overdraft fees on my bank account. However, now at the click of my mouse I can see exactly what money is going out of my account and what is coming in. The financial calendar allows you to see when direct debits or regular bills are due to be paid, so that I can tell exactly how much is going to be in my account at any one time. This is a software programme for home accounting. It can also be used for small business accounts as it has VAT trackers and programmes that will work out your allowable and owed tax. I use it for my personal accounts and since I started using it at college, it has saved me a fortune in bank charges. It is like having an interactive bank statement that you have access to 24 hours a day. Now that we have internet banking anyway, I suspect it will become less popular for personal accounts, but will still be used for small businesses. I have to admit, I'm an accounts fanatic. If I could, I would keep everybody's accounts for them just for the fun of organising and using the money management software! I have used both Quicken and Microsoft Money and I prefer Quicken. It is very easy to use and soon you will be tracking those bank accounts, savings and credit cards and budgeting as if it is second nature. If only I had known about Quicken 6 years ago I never would have got into such a mess. Still thank God I know about it now! Without a doubt this has to be one of the most useful programs I have ever used.
