Boots Antiseptic Cream
Advantages: Is soothing and calms skin. Has a nice texture.
I bought this antiseptic cream recently when I had some scratches on my leg which I wanted to treat. I also intended to keep the cream for general first aid as the product is suitable for using for a number of skin ailments including sunburn, dry chapped skin, cuts, grazes, minor burns, spots, insect bites and nappy rash.
The product comes as a 25g tube. This is boxed and there is a lot of product information on the box so I have kept the tube in this cardboard carton. The tube is made of soft, malleable plastic so it's easy to squeeze. It has a screw on top which requires no effort to unscrew.
The cream is suitable for adults and children but you should not use it if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. These are printed on both the box and the side of the tube. The cream contains active ingredients. There is a warning that some ingredients may cause allergic reactions or dermatitis. I have not experienced anything like this though.
The cream is for external use only. It should not be used for prolonged periods and there are some special things to note when treating certain conditions, for instance burns and scalds should not normally be covered with a dressing after using this cream.
You apply the cream using your fingertips and your hands need to be washed and cleaned before and after use. The cream is "non-greasy". When I apply the cream it seems to have a cooling effect. Boots say the cream is 'soothing and healing' and I'd agree with this assessment. I like the cold sensation of the cream when I apply it as it helps to dampen the hot throbbing pain that can accompany cuts and grazes. The cream is definitely not slimy or oily and in fact seems to vanish into your skin when you apply it. A tiny little smidge of cream goes an awful long way though so I advise using a tiny bit first then adding more if you need to.
The cream doesn't have a strong medical smell which can sometimes be off-putting. It smells more like a talcum powder and is a bit flowery. It's not so offensive that kids will hate the smell of it either.
The cream is effective in helping to protect your wounds against infection. I wouldn't say the healing process in my cases have been any faster than if I hadn't used any cream but I haven't had any further complications when using this cream. It has also helped me to endure the pain of the wounds whilst I am healing.
The cream is easy to store - keep below 30 degrees Celsius and adhere to the best before date on the pack.
I would recommend this cream as Boot's own products can rival named brands in price. You can also use your advantage card in store to earn a few extra pennies.

Summary: Good choice of antiseptic cream for all the family.
