A well made adjustable wrist support

Earlier this year I hurt my wrist, I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary but one of my toddlers was trying to escape (not for the first time!) and my wrist was twisted as it caught her weight. It didn't hurt too much at the time but after an hour or so it started to become more painful and by the following morning I could hardly use it. It was particularly bad when lifting anything and I was glad to be going to work that day and not having to look after my twins.
My husband offered to buy me a support bandage to see if that would help as I knew it was going to be hard to completely rest it. When I got home and tried it on I was disappointed to find that the smallest size available was too big for my wrist. I didn't think I had small wrists and was surprised that the smallest available size was so loose on my wrist.
The next day I went back to the store to see if there were any wrist supports available and the only option was this Elastoplast Sport Adjustable Wrist Support. I didn't need it for Sport use but as there was no other alternative I thought I would give it a try.

      The Wrist Support
It is designed for either your left or right wrist and the box has step by step instructions on how to put the support on. It has a thumb loop and you then wrap the smooth side of the support over the top of your hand and round your wrist. There is a decent sized velcro tab attached to the end of the support which allows you to fasten it to fit your wrist and vary the level of support it provides. Although I was able to make it fit my wrist I still found it was slightly loose across the top of my hand no matter how many times I tried to make it fit better, however despite this I did notice a difference straight away with reduced pain levels when I had to use my wrist.
The support is made of 75% Neoprene blend and 25% Polyester which the packaging claims is skin friendly. It wasn't particularly warm when I was wearing this support but I still found my skin started to sweat after quite a short period of time. Maybe as it's for sport use they thought it wouldn't matter as people wearing it would be sweating anyway! I found I had to keep taking it off to stop the sweating getting too bad as it did become slightly uncomfortable then. I was glad to see that I could at least hand wash this although machine washable would have been better.

      Did it work?
Yes, the support really helped my wrist and allowed it to be nearly back to normal within a couple of days. When I slightly hurt it again a month or so later I put the support on again and within a day it was fine again. If I was going to be doing any sport that put pressure on my wrist I would wear this as it is meant to help prevent re-injury. It's worth mentioning the box recommends you seek medical advice if you are unsure about your injury.

      Price and availability
I bought my support from Boots for £14.49. The Boots own brand supports that were too big for me were £12.99 so I think this is a reasonable price for a well made item that worked.

      Would I recommend?
Yes, as it helped make my wrist better.

An excellent support which will last and last

I've had trouble with my left wrist for years having sprained it a few times in the past, and I find because it's weak the slightest knock can render it practically unusable for a weeks so I often rely on supports to make it possible to lift things as normal. Up until recently I've used simple basic elasticated support bandages but I don't find they offer a great deal of support, they're uncomfortable to wear, and because they're white they get filthy far too quickly. So I went searching for an alternative and found this Elastoplast Sports Support in Boots for £14.49.

It comes in a card box which has instructions for how to wear it correctly, but to be fair it's pretty obvious how to use it when you look at it. The support is basically a black strap roughly 4 inches wide and 12 inches long with Velcro on one end and a loop on the other. To put it on you just place the loop over your thumb and wrap the strap around the wrist, starting by going over the back of the hand, and secure it at the end with the Velcro.

The material the support is made of is like a foam about 5mm thick. It feels soft and cushiony against my skin and because it's quite thick it feels like it's offering protection to my wrist as well as just support. The great thing about this support is the fact that it's adjustable, so you can not only adjust it to the size of your wrist, which makes it much more comfortable to wear than the one size fits all supports, but it can be used for either wrist and you can also adjust the amount of support it gives to suit you.

One of the main issues I had with other supports is that they dig into the skin between my thumb and finger and after a few hours wear this became really painful. Because this one is thicker and cushioned it doesn't dig in at all and is extremely comfortable to wear. I've had to take other supports off after a few hours because the pain and discomfort of wearing them was worse than the original pain in my wrist, but I can happily wear this one all day.

The Velcro is strong and stays securely in place all day. I've never had any problems with the support coming loose or undone whilst I'm wearing it even when playing sports or doing heavy lifting (which I do a lot of). The only slightly negative point I could mention is that because it's thicker than other supports it does sometimes feel a little bulky, however once I've had it on for a while I do forget it's there and it doesn't get in the way of anything.

I find the support this gives is much better than any other support i've used in the past, my wrist feels secure and doesn't give way whilst I'm wearing it which is the main problem I usually have because it's so weak. I can play sports, lift heavy objoects and complete simple every day tasks that without it I was unable to do. And because it's black it doesn't look filthy after a few hours wear and I don't haveto throw it away, I can just give it a quick handwash when it needs it and it's as good as new.

All in all I think this is a fantastic support which has really helped me to be able to carry on with everyday things that other supports let me down on. It lasts well too so it'swell worth investing in.
