Advantages: quick and easy to use

Disadvantages: pump was a bit stiff to operate

Clever me this morning managed to step on a small piece of glass and embed it into my foot. Thankfully it didn't go in too deep and I managed to remove it without needing to see anyone.
Once removed however, my foot was obviously left bleeding slightly, and any pressure was just going to set it off again.

I remembered I had bought some Savlon antiseptic wound wash because I thought it would be easier to apply to a screaming toddler than cream. If necessary I would also be able to spray in the general area if she was moving away from me should the need arise.

The product comes packaged in a pump action bottle that is small enough to fit into your bag to take out, but not too small that you have a heart attack at the £1.93 price tag.
The bottle is turquoise which represents against the blue colour of the Savlon brand. You can see into the bottle which helps to realise how much you have left.
When I was looking around for the products to buy in preparation for toddler cuts and bruises, I almost dismissed anything less than known brand products to me purely for the reputation I have grown up with. There wasn't much else around to compare the price against for this product which made me glad as I do have faith in the Savlon brand.

Under the lid, the squirter is quite tiny and I did find I needed to use my strongest hand to use the bottle. This was all well and good as the injury was on my foot, but had it had been on my right hand I may have come into trouble trying to apply this.
Pressing down on the lid, the clear liquid comes out with quite a force. This is much better than coming out slowly as if you're trying to use this on upset children, you would need to apply more. Thankfully a couple of squirts and the area was completely soaked.

Reading the bottle whilst I was waiting for the stinging sensation, I realised actually it wasn't meant to sting me. This was a relief, despite waiting for it. For children this would be even better as after the first time they experience it, they shouldn't be so scared the next time, and we all know there will be one.

I learnt quickly that the product is designed to remove any grime and dirt from the wound which prevents any infection. I was glad about this as with the wound on my food, I knew the minute I put socks on, I was susceptible to all kinds of fibres getting into the wound.
There was a lot of excess liquid on my foot that needed to be cleaned off. I imagine it would evaporate if you didn't wipe it off, and this may be needed when it comes to smaller children, but I realised that by wiping gently around the wound and then over it, it helped to stop the bleeding as well, although bear in mind my foot wasn't gushing, just trickling slightly at this point.

I was impressed with what the product did and the peace of mind it gave me to help resist the temptation to have to put a plaster on my foot. I don't mind plasters, but sometimes I think it's better to let the air get to the affected area.
I like the fact that this was a spray rather than a cream as I often think as you're applying creams you could be spreading germs from your own fingers onto the affected area, or spreading germs around the affected area before the cream has a chance to fight them off. This way feels a lot cleaner and quicker.

I am definitely glad I bought this instead of a cream.

Summary: a great way to fight germs with toddlers

I much prefer this to the cream version (for the reasons you mention).
