Savlon Antiseptic Wound Wash
Advantages: Cleans and protects wounds
Savlon wound wash
I tend to always have a bottle of this in the house ready for minor cuts and grazes.
WHAT IS IT FOR?
The product is essentially just as it says on the tin, an antiseptic wash for wounds. It is a ready to use solution which cleans wounds and is suitable for cuts, grazes and minor abrasions. It works by washing out dirt and killing bacteria and thus it helps to protect against infection.
PRODUCT AND PACKAGING...
The product comes in a 100ml bottle with all of the information and instructions on the back of the bottle and it has a press down spray action. The liquid itself is clear, which is good so that skin doesn't become stained when the spray is applied. Surprisingly, it doesn't have a strong antiseptic smell; there is some slight scent but its definitely not medicinal.
USING THE PRODUCT...
To use the product should simply be sprayed liberally onto the wound to make sure that all dirt and debris is washed away. Any excess liquid should be wiped away with a clean tissue. I find that a coupleof sprays is sufficient for the wound to be really washed out because the product does come out quickly and plenty of it with just one depression on the pump spray. It is however easy to direct at the wound and seems to spray in the given direction and not randomly to the sides etc.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY...
The product is widely available from supermarkets and chemists and if I remember rightly costs around the £3 mark for 100ml which is great value when I consider the price of some health products.
I have to take it on trust that it is antiseptic and will protect from germs because all indications that it will do so are not in the liquid; it doesn't smell of antiseptic nor does it sting when applied to wounds. However, given that Savlon is a product I tend to trust and the fact that it always seems to work for me, I am inclined to accept this truth.
The product is easy to use, non stinging, very reasonably priced and effective.
I would recommend this to anyone as a staple in their first aid box.
