Advantages: Keeps germs out of cuts and abrasions

Disadvantages: They don't seem to stick too well!

Plasters are an essential for any modern medicine cabinet, we may only use one on the odd occasion but you can guarantee the minute you throw the empty packet into the waste bin and forget to replace it someone has a mishap.
I am not a great fan of plasters to be honest, I hate the way that the skin goes all withered when it is trapped underneath the plaster. But if you have a cut or an abrasion that needs to be kept germ free then they are a must.

Years ago I used to work in the school kitchens and we always had a large supply of those useless blue plastic plasters that were especially designed to `show up` if by any chance they fell off while you were preparing the food.
The last box of plasters I bought and have recently finished were also plastic, they were flesh coloured plastic and they were so annoying because they just wouldn't stick properly!
So rather than fall foul of this again I decided to hunt for some different ones.
We were dawdling around Tesco as we normally do and I saw the Tesco brand fabric plasters at £1.09 for a pack of 40 in assorted sizes, I thought that they were reasonably priced and threw a packet into my shopping basket.

Next day they got their test run! Hubby decided to hammer the end of his finger rather than the head of the nail, I was running around the patio sympathising and he was there with blood pouring out of the minutest cut that you could ever find! ( I am sure his pride was more dented than his finger)
Anyway the Florence Nightingale came out in me and I ran to the bathroom to get a clean flannel and then to the medicine cabinet to get the box of plasters out.

When you open the box you have a good choice of size, the plaster fabric feels pretty soft too. I prefer the flesh coloured plasters any day of the week. The backs of the plasters have a a fairly easily removable backing strip and then you notice that the fabric is `breathable`, there are the tiniest of air holes in the weave of the fabric.
After giving the end of the bashed finger a good old wipeover I stuck the Tesco fabric plaster onto the top of the throbbing finger.
It fell off!!
I thought that my technique must be slipping, so I unwrapped another larger plaster and stuck it on the opposite way to secure the first effort.
They both fell off!!
OK, two plasters in the waste bin and thirty eight to go...

Eventually after letting the skin on the damaged finger dry completely I made a final attempt. Three plasters later the wound was safely covered and was free from germs.
In all fairness to Tesco`s Fabric plasters I am sure the location of the wound was a half of the problem, it is always awkward to stick anything onto the tip of something ?!!

The plasters stayed put overnight and kept unwanted germs at bay.
I would hazard a guess that Tesco Fabric plasters are on a par with most.
Instead of having a good strong adhesive plaster we have a bit of an apology for one, but maybe Human Rights have come into the equation and it is now considered to be cruel to encase a finger too tightly!

Tesco Fabric plasters are durable and soft and the fabric breathes.
There is a latex free adhesive on the back which minimises the risk of an allergic reaction and the packet says that you must only use the dressing once.

If anyone has any alternative ideas please feel free to let me know!

Summary: Plasters are a must have for a family medicine cupboard
