Advantages: Not bulky. Stretchy. Price. Sterile in packaging.

Disadvantages: Maybe too thin. Narrow.

I have a first aid kit at home which I keep stocked up and so this means replacing anything that I use as I use it. One item I have used and have since replaced also is a bandage which I needed to put on my daughters arm when she had a nasty cut to it and it helped to keep the non-adhesive dressing in place. The bandage I used was a Tesco Value Stretch Bandage which I bought in Tesco for just 28p - which I believe is a pretty fantastic price.

The bandage is a basic bandage that doesn't have any bells and whistles - but it does the job. It comes in the Tesco Value wrapping, and it is sterile until the packaging is opened. The packaging also tells us that the bandage is 4.5 cm wide and 54 cm long - and so it is long enough to wrap around a limb several times. However, it's worth bearing in mind that it actually isn't that wide and so it is really only suitable for minor cuts, strains and sprains.

The bandage is made of a light weave and so when wrapped around a limb it is not heavy or bulky and it does not add unnecessary heat. While the thinness of the bandage makes the bandage comfortable, it does mean that it doesn't afford much protection and so I actually think this is most useful for holding dressings in place more than anything else. Because it is stretchy material it does hold tight against the limb and once in place it doesn't tend to move about much. I secure it with Duopore tape as this seems to hold it well.

While this bandage is suitable for short-term temporary measures, I think if the bandage needs to be worn for more than about 24 hours then something a little more substantial may be needed.

Summary: It's okay for temporary measures.
