Coopet Urn Aquarium Ornament
by katykicker Our fish live in a tank that makes them something of a pretty ornament for guests to look at. Because of this we like to keep our tank looking good with colourful live plants and a variety of ornaments too. One such ornament that we've been using since around Christmas time last year is this urn aquarium ornament. I was surprised to find ... this listed here but never the less, here it is and here is my review of using it in our BiOrb fish tank. Pets At Home is our pet store of choice for fish products, ornaments, cat toys and other animal related products and we often visit Pets At Home just to stock up on new items for our cat to keep her stimulated as she is an indoor cat. This ornament was something of an impulse purchase when we were looking at getting our fish tank ready for use (e.g buying a chemical tester and other items). I believe we paid somewhere in the region of £4-£5 however I cannot find this online at present to check for sure. This was one of the cheaper ornaments that we purchased and we solely went for it because it looked nice, that's it! This ornament is made from polyresin, as most fish tank ornaments appear to be made from, and it has a hole going through either side. This means that as well as being well designed for coping with being submerged in water all day it is also fantastic for fish as they can swim through it and they can also hide down in the bottom part of it too which is nice and dark, ideal for fish who want a dose when our lights are on. (I don't actually know if the light would actually stop them sleeping but they seem to sleep more when its off!). We have small fish in our tank including gourami and danios. This makes this urn fantastic for them but there is a similar larger one available in Pets At Home too. We've got this at the bottom of our tank and it has nestled within the gravel nicely with a little effort in our part. This stands sturdy on the top of the gravel too but I always like to be safe and burrow things in slightly where I can. This is approximately 4 inches high and about the same, maybe a fraction less, wide. This is a fantastic size for our fish tank as it is generous enough for one or two fish to comfortably be in at the same time (which sometimes happens), but not so large that it is restrictive and prevents us from having other ornaments in our tank. Our fish use this regularly and I often see them darting in and out. Also, recently I was doing my twice daily stock check to make sure no-one has died and I couldn't find one of the fish, then all of a sudden it swam out and since then I've paid more attention and noticed that they use it quite often to sleep in or just perhaps to relax in, who knows as its dark in there! The design of this is ideal for use in a fish tank really as it looks a little bit knackered! There is an almost Aztec feel about this ornament with the swirling patterns repeated around it and the appearance of 'moss' looks good too. This definitely fits in well with our fish tank and it looks like it has been there for years. I like the 'used' appearance of this if you will because it means that when I damaged a little of the surface by removing some algae from it that it still blends in and looks good. Our fish seem to really like it, more than other ornaments, and we tend to keep ornaments in our tank that we can see they are actively using now because we've got a fair few ornaments and a few fish and we want them to have something that is fun and stimulating just like we do with our cat. I think I'm remembering the price of this correctly as I'm normally good when it comes to remembering anything to do with numbers and so I do feel that this has been worth every penny. This has stood the test of time in our fish tank. It hasn't fallen over once yet and our fish appear to be using it often, perhaps this is a new thing but I've only been actively looking out for that recently. I will happily continue using this until a time where I change the design of our tank. There is nothing to fault about this hence my rating. Read the complete review |

Coopet Urn Aquarium Ornament
by k2705 Another item I bought when I purchased my fish tank was the Coopet Small Urn Aquarium Ornament, I wanted something that was full enclosed for the smaller fish to hide in should they wish, the urn ornament was ideal and the perfect size for my tank. The Coopet Urn ornament is basically an urn with bits broken off of it to ... give it a rustic look, as if it has been under water for years, it looks like something you would expect to find on a shipwreck. The Urn is say on a small stand which is designed to look like a seaweed/ moss covered rock, the Urn is sat on an angle on top. The Urn has a pattern engraved in it and is a dark stone colour, it has a hole in either side of it big enough for the fish to swim through aswell as a hole in the top (the lid) of the urn allowing the fish to have somewhere to rest/ hide away from the other fish. The Urn is made from a non toxic plastic type material polyresin and is suitable for all fish tanks whether it be marine, tropical or even fresh water. Despite being made from plastic the ornament is heavy enough not to float when placed in a tank filled with water, however if you are worried about it floating or being knocked over by the fish you can surround the base of it with gravel inorder to keep it slightly more secure and in place, however personally ours is just stood in the gravel and so far we have had no problems with it whatsoever. This particular ornament comes in 2 sizes, large and small, we bought the smaller one as we wanted it for our smaller fish so that they had somewhere to get, also we did not want it to look too intrusive in our tank, the smaller one was the perfect size and measured at height 10.5cm, width 9cm and depth 7cm, personally we felt the larger one would have been too big in our tank along side the other stuff we had bought, however it would be ideal for larger tanks or even in a smaller tank as the main focal point, it really depends on what look you are going for. For us it was just something extra to have. So far the Urn has proved to be very durable, it has show no signs of wear and tear from being constantly in the water, and when handling it the polyresin does feel extremely strong, not that it has been dropped but the material feels strong enough to withstand the odd knock when washing/ cleaning it. So cheaper fish tank ornaments can feel a bit on the flimsy side however the polyresin that the urn is made from is reasonably thick, personally I think this is a fish tank ornament that will last for years. Whilst we bought most of our fish tank equipment from our local fish and garden centre, we actually bought the Urn from our local Pet at Home which also has a fish section, it cost us £4.49 which personally I think is a fair price for such a good quality item. Whilst there probably was slightly cheaper options we could have gone for I do not mind paying out a little bit more if the item is going to last a long time as running a fish tank is nit exactly cheap. Overall I have been very impressed with the Urn ornament, it was reasonably priced, durable, it looks good in the tank and the fish love it, even the slightly larger fish try to get inside it, however the smaller urn is only suitable for smaller fish, if you have all larger fish in your tank it is probably best to go for the larger version of this product. The urn has been a great success in providing our fish with somewhere to hide and something to swim in and out of, they really do seem to love it. Read the complete review |

Coopet Star Fish Aquarium Ornament
by k2705 As you will see from a previous review we recently bought a fish tank for our house. When we purchased the tank we needed to buy all of the equipment to go in it, some of which included ornaments and various weeks for the fish to investigate and hide in/ under. One of the items we bought was the Star Fish Aquarium Ornament, it caught ... my eye because it came in a variety of bright colours and was the perfect item to help hide the air pump we had bought to blow bubbles inside the tank. The Star Fish Ornament is basically what the title says it is, a 5 point star fish ornament for your fish tank. The points of the Star Fish are slightly wavy and the whole thing is textured to give it a slightly more realistic appearance. We bought a bright yellow one as we thought it would really stand out against our blue gravel and would draw your attention away from the air pump it was disguising, however the star fish does come in a variety of colours including blue, green and red, all of which are bright colours and would stand out in any tank. The Star Fish is made from a non toxic plastic and is suitable for both tropical and marine tanks meaning this particular ornament would be suitable for any tank and any fish. Although the Star Fish Ornament is made from plastic it is heavy enough not to float once you put water in the tank (I usually arrange the ornaments before filling the tank with water) however if you are worried about the fish knocking into it causing it to float you can pack gravel around it to hold it in place, although so far we have not had any trouble with ours floating and we do have some larger fish in the tanks, aswell as smaller ones which pick about in the gravel around it. The ornament is not so big that it takes over most of the bottom of the tank, however it is large enough to use to conceal pumps/ filters etc as we have it measures height 11.5cm, width 11.5cm and depth 3cm, the actual weight of the item is 78g, for our tanks this is the perfect size. We bought our Star Fish Ornament from our local garden and fish centre and it cost us £3.49, personally I think this is an average price of this ornament as I have found that ornaments for the fish tank are not particularly cheap to buy. I have seen similar ornaments in various pet/ fish shops and they have all been priced around about the same as the one we bought. I particularly liked this ornament because not only was it something to brighten up the tank aswell as hiding the air pump we had bought, but it can also be placed at an angle to provide a hiding place for you fish. You could even just place the star fish ornament flat on the gravel to decorate the tank and give it a focal point. The ornament can really be used in any way that you choose. So far our star fish has shown no signs of wear and tear, whilst I know it is not being handled all of the time and is just sitting there, it is sitting in water constantly, in the past my dad has had ornaments that have worn very quickly after sitting in water all of the time, but so far the star fish looks as good as new and in the same condition we bought it in. Overall I would definitely recommend the Star Fish Aquarium ornament, it is reasonably priced, does an excellent job of concealing our air pump whilst at the same time providing a hiding place for our fish., I has also proved to be hard wearing and really does brighten up your tank, and with a large variety of colours there is something for every tank.
