I bought the Column Ruins Aquarium ornament when I bought my new fish tank, I had already bough a small urn and another star fish ornament to disguise an air pump (previously reviewed) but wanted something a little larger as more of a focal point than the urn was, however I wanted something that would be in keeping with the appearance of the urn ornament I had bought. I spotted the Column Ruins ornament and it was perfect for what I wanted, and fitted in with the theme of our tank as well as providing an interesting environment for the fish, not sure it exactly went with the star fish but that was bought with a purpose and was something a little bit different to brighten the tank up.

The Column Ruins ornament is basically 6 column ruins, 3 position horizontal to the other 3 creating a T shape. The columns have a Roman feel to them, they are mounted on a flat base along with a small stump of a broken column, a large pillar is positioned along the top of all 6 columns. Personally I thought this particular ornament was very detailed compared to some aquarium ornaments, the columns themselves have grooves going down them to give them a more realistic look, and the pillar across the top is decorated with a light blue flower pattern. Whilst this ornament is not huge, meaning it is suitable for slightly smaller aquariums, it does create a nice centre piece/ focal point for any tank, it measure at height 8.5cm, width 8cm and depth 4cm, I personally felt this was an ideal size for our tank along side the other items we had bought.

The Column Ruins are made from the non toxic substance Polyresin, an extremely durable and hardwearing plastic type material, however it in no way makes the ornament appear cheap and tacky. The fact that it is made form polyresin means that it is suitable for all aquariums such as marine, tropical and fresh water.
So far the columns ornament has show no signs of wear and tear and looks in just as good condition as the day we bought it, this was a slight worry of mine with the item constantly being in water and then being scrubbed when cleaning the tank out, but so far so good, we have had no problems with the ornament showing signs of wear.

The column ornament was reasonably priced at £7.00, it was a bit more expensive compared to the other items we bought for the tank, however the plan was to have this as the centre piece so we were prepared to pay slightly more for it, I was also happy to pay a bit extra to ensure it was of a good quality and lasted well. We bought our ornament from our local fish and garden centre, how ever you can also buy the exact same item from various other fish stores as well as online. From what I have seen most places charge around about the same sort of price as what we paid.

Overall I have been extremely happy with our column ruins ornament, it has provided a stimulating environment for our fish, the gaps between the columns gives them something to swim through and investigate, and so far they seem to love it. The ornament has been very hard wearing and of excellent quality, it really does bring all of the smaller items in the tank together creating an impressive display. I would definitely recommend this ornament for any tank.
